The Grizzly Bear Blat - Slideshow

This August I did a 24 day trip with my Caterham. First stop was the Flyin Miata Summer Camp in Palisade, Colorado for four days of fun. I towed the Caterham to this event and then on to Red Deer, Alberta, Canada. At Red Deer 10 Seven type cars met for a drive through the Canadian Rockies to Vancouver Island. The Truck and trailer were left in Red Deer at the hotel until our return 12 days later. I then towed the Caterham back home.

The pictures in this link are of the Canadian part of the trip. The Canadian Rockies lived up to and even exceeded all the hype you hear about them, the pictures do not do them justice. This part of the trip was organized by Terry Johns, an Englishman who lives in Red Deer and is a dealer in Caterham 7s. The trip was well organized and I believe everyone had a very good time, I know I did.

Six Caterham 7s were shipped over from England for this trip and it was great fun getting to know the people who came along with them.

This is my first attempt at putting together a slideshow on Photobucket, I hope you enjoy it.

Link worked like a charm for me?

I was a little shocked to see the bear incident with Taber and Joan, fortunately with them emerging safely from what could have been a very nasty meeting. I was even more impressed it took only 2 hours to resurrect the seven so it could continue - top work!

If the dates had aligned differently I would have joined you. The photos looked great and I could recognize much of the spots where you were from my previous trips to that part of the world. Kudos to Terry for pushing the idea and making it happen.

We were quite proud of ourselves getting Taber's car back on the road so they could finish the trip. All ten Sevens had at least one breakdown. Mine was a fuel injection hose seeping gasoline. I had replaced it last winter but the new piece must have been sitting on the shelf a long time as it had surface cracks all over it and a couple were leaking.

Thanks for the trip down memory lane Skip!

We had hoped to have our Cat together in time to join in but unfortunately health issues have delayed a lot of my plans...car is still completely apart.

We did take advantage of a sale offered by Viarail last winter and took the train from Toronto to Vancouver in mid May so saw a lot of the same scenery from a different vantage point. Nope, not the same as from the driver's seat of a Seven but it did have its perks...

BTW...seems our new Smart tv is smarter than the operator, took almost 2 hr to finally get your slide show running. Sure looks better on a 60" screen than on my phone...

Thanks again!

Good job, Skip. When the slideshow started, I saw "1/235" at the top, and thought "Wow, this is going to take a while", but then it got to the end and I thought "Wow, that went quickly - I'll have to watch again".

I started with 500+ photos and narrowed it down to those 235. It took eight hours to upload the original 500+ photos from my PC to photobucket.

Well, I picked up my new nose and bonnet from the paint shop today--the respective stripes look great! Now, the car shop has to remove the four latches from the old bonnet and mount on the new bonnet, mount the four Zeus fasteners on the nose cone, and mount the "7" and grill on the nose. Does anyone have pictures of the original grill mounting from a Caterham? I don't remember looking at it and the zip ties used in the rebuild probably won't be the long term fix.

I'm excited to be this close to getting my seven back!

Taber,

Great to hear your car is almost whole again.

On my '04 there are two holes in the lower part of the nose cone opening and two slots in the upper part. The grille goes into the two bottom holes and then the slots. There are two metal spring clips that close the slots. Not a very good system, it lets the grille rattle around a bit. I'll get a picture next time I am in the shop and post it here.

Added some pictures showing the clips. My car has both a mesh grille and the 7 emblem grille. I added some safety wire to the clips to make sure they stayed in place.

Skip,

Thanks! I got the car back, but the nose and bonnet are both "loose" and the stripe on the nose does not align with the stripe on the bonnet, and the stripe on the bonnet does not align with the small piece of stripe beneath the windscreen on the scuttle. I have taken off the right front wing to get it "Line-X'ed" as the other three wings are. I need the insulation strip that separates the bonnet from the nose, and I must "tweak" the zeus fasteners so that the nose is "tighter" some way. Overall, I'm about "even" given I have the car back (a plus) but with the "issues" (definitely a minus) I'm not as thrilled as I expected I would be. I did get Steve's radiator in the mail to Terry today!
