IDreamOfChapman
Hi. I'd like to get a set of 4-point harnesses for a standard Caterham - like the ones sold by the factory that are already the correct length for the car. The factory belts are out of stock - does anyone know of any direct fit models available elsewhere? thanks! -Chris
bigdog
Have you contacted the guys at redline components in the UK? Caterham proper has a rubbish supply system. Redline is the main supplier to Caterham. they are very helpful as well.
yellowss7
I bought a set from Seven Speed this year. Easy to install If you have long arms or a helper to hold the seat down to tighten the bolts on the seat after you took it out to attach the belts to their mounting points. http://www.sevenspeed.co.uk/collections/harnesses Tom
The Stig
Check out Demon Tweeks in the UK. They have quite a few options.
lucky dawg
I have a set that I removed from my CSR, PM me if you are interested. Note that Caterham has two types of four point belts, so make sure you know which one you are looking for.
coffee break
I've been looking at this type of 4 point set-up. I'm interested what others think about these. http://www.demon-tweeks.co.uk/motorsport/seats-interior/willans-supersport-4x4-caterham-harness
ihckb2
I'm not sure which Caterham ones I have, but they are a four point and have the word Caterham in a rubberized lettering on shoulder straps. I did order them from Caterham England about four years ago. I find that the shoulder straps work their way loose with wind vibration. Locking or tucking in the strap ends seems to help but over a twisting drive they still come loose unless you have them very very snug. Not comfortable when so snug. The rubberized lettering wears off rather quickly, and start to look a little shabby. My wife hates them as the passengers arms are not out horizontal like the drivers and when the shoulder straps loosen off they fall/drift off her shoulders. This happens even though the shoulder belts come through a seat hole and end up very close to the neck, so its not the belt spacing causing the drift off. My two bits worth. blubarisax
I'd recommend 6-point belts if you plan on doing any track days at all. The anti-sub straps keep the lap belts in place in the event of a crash. I got a set of Schroth belts from HMS Motorsport. Derrick at HMS is extremely helpful in getting something that fits your needs. I went for the Enduro model as they are extremely easy to adjust and quite comfortable. The belts fit perfectly and HMS has hardware to meet your needs. They have belts designed for use with a HANS Device (I strongly recommend one for the track). Kitcat
What Blubarisax said. The anti-submarine name is a bit misleading. What the anchor strap(s) do is keep the lap belt over your hip/pelvis. Those are your body's frame/hard points. If the belt rides up (because there is no anchor strap), then all of that force is exerted above your hips, on all of your body's vulnerable soft spots. These belts are a bit harder to put on, but not much. And the peace of mind is worth it, not to mention the actual payoff in event you crash, end upside down, etc.
JohnCh
Another option is the Schroth harness with their ASM technology. The inner shoulder harness has an extra flap of material sewn into it, which extends in a collision. The resulting twist in your body lifts your inner hip and keeps it above the lap belt, thereby minimizing the chance submarining. I run these in the Westfield and my track Miata, although when on track, I also use the optional 5th & 6th points. The video below shows what happens in a collision when using a 3-point, standard 4-point, and the Schroth with ASM. -John
IDreamOfChapman
reviving this old, dead thread... I'm looking at the Schroth Profi II ASM FE belts, they have a special caterham version available from demon-tweeks, as well as the standard version available directly from Schroth. Any comments on the fit of the direct sales ones vs. the caterham version? Looking at the pictures, the ones from demon-tweeks look like the webbing is shorter, but I'd prefer the DOT-legal push-button release mechanism on the ones Schroth sells directly. Has anyone installed the standard length belts in their car? Were they too long? bball7754
I purchased a Schroth Pofii II Formula style 6-point and a set of ASM from MSAR in the UK because they were "Caterham specific". http://www.msar.co.uk/motorsports/Race-Harnesses/Racing-6pt-Belts/Car-Specific/Schroth-Caterham-Profi-II-6F-Formula-Style_226.html It was not a wise move on my part. The shoulder strap fittings were not sewn in, which I suppose is ok for racing but not what I wanted for the street. I ended up contacting HMS Motorsport to see if the fittings could be corrected, and worked with Derek Mulson. He, and HMS Motorsport, were fantastic. The changed the fittings, and made other adjustments/corrections. http://www.hmsmotorsport.com/ Basically, I think they can customize any of the harnesses to whatever specs you want. So, if you know how long you want/need the shoulder and lap straps to be, I think they could create a custom set for you, and I don't think they charge extra for it. Definitely worth a call.
