XR4Bill
I have only ridden in one Stalker (a V-6), and it seemed to me that there was so much storque -- excuse me, torque -- that It appears that the Stork, Storque has officially landed...lol. I haven't driven a V8 powered 7 yet but I would love to... is that a hint? :toetap05: Bill

MightyMike
Having owned both I4 and V8 7s, I can tell you that they both drive pretty much the same until the throttle goes down. Even then, it is fairly easy to modulate the power in a V8 - at least it is in mine - tire spin is optional. cheapracer
My objective was to stay as close to Colin's original inspiration, ... with 2.3 Duratec. . If that was your objective then why not a 1.6?
HOTTTCAR
I think most guys "love the one your with". scannon
Okay, I've had my morning enema ............. Let loose the hounds of hell! Alaskossie, I'm going to tell the Miata Natzis what you've done to one of there beloved. Most of them will be jealous of Tom's V8 Miata. Weight increases less than 200 lb and balance shifts less than 1%. Suspension and brakes are upgraded to handle the extra speed and power. HP (in Tom's particular car) goes from 155 to 525! The FM conversions are extremely well thought out and executed. Here's a link to the FM build log for Tom's car. http://www.flyinmiata.com/V8/qship/index.php?UID= One magazine editor stated after driving an FM converted car that it was the best car he had ever driven, period. Alaskossie
If that was your objective then why not a 1.6? I wanted modern power, and lots of it -- but with an in-line 4. i wanted my late-model Seven to be in the same category, performance-wise, as the Seven had been since 1958, compared to other contemporary cars on the road. Simple as that.
carsport
You folks are killing me! Colin ran little 768?? engines and they won races. He had cars almost banned from racing - not due to HP but to handling and winning. Jack B just bought another Stalker with the turbo I4 from the Soltice/Sky cars -- I think it is at 360HP and good torque coming at around 2500 rpm. His other Stalker which he and his son set FTD in SCCA autocrossing had a 2.8 v6. So if you're winning why the excess of a v8. Stalker V6 supercharged is less Hp. Dick B did supercharged Ford Duretec 2.0 or 2.3 at around 350 Hp. Gale (hotttcar) has an LS7 V8. Bill runs a Triumph Spitfire in his Locost. Chris runs a side-way-mounted motorcycle engine and chain drive to the irs. A fellow used a Datsun 280z running gear in his Locost build (it is a really BIG 7. but it's his and it runs well). Some use Toyota engines Leich and Westfield are the two I know off hand. There was the Rotus using Mazda rotory. So, guys, do what you want and belive in. The seven type car is a winner at any gas station, parking lot, blatting about, so it doesn't make any difference the engine -- does it?? It is all about owning a unique little car with a winning heritage. I have a Birkin with Ford Zetec, a StalkerV6 with 3.4 v6, and a Lotus Europa with the Renault 80hp i4. I don't need a V8, but wouldn't kick it away if it showed up in the garage. And, for a more weird concept, I wouln't mind building a seven type with a nice 2 or 3 cyl diesel and the Protean folks electric wheel motors making it 4 wheel drive. There is a Stalker that is all electric I think it is number 7 on the stalker picture gallery. Ford is dropping weight from their pickups - why - for more economy and also using more and more turbo i4 and v6. Must be something about that add lightness thing Colin had going on. Why all the aluminium and carbon fiber intensive cars? lightness probably. Well, there you go from a fellow that just likes driving.. been driving Lotus cars since 1968. Back to you alls lively discussion. Dale Edited January 30, 2014 by carsport

bigdog
Count me has a con. But to each their own. If one does put a V8 in a seven, It should be of the flat plane variety. There's nothing wrong with a cross plane V8. I just don't care for the sound because of spending so many years in South Dakota having to listen to all those horrid H-D's every August, I simply just don't care for the potato-potato sound any more. I've always liked the smooth sound of an inline 6. Plus I think the extra weight just makes it more difficult to get the handling back to what it was with a lighter engine. I wonder if the car is still around, running, etc. http://www471.pair.com/stalkerv/gallery2/main.php?g2_itemId=18115 As for 'needing' a V8 . . . . Come on, Dale, you know you want to put one in your Stalker! :ack:
