I bought it from the original owner with 7,200 miles on it (11,000 km)....the odometer is in kilometers as it originated from Canada. · The Big Valve Twin Cam engine was rebuilt in 2009 by a professional engine builder for $4,000. · Caterham delivered all the Seven TC with dual Dellortos DHLA40G. · In order to get the car into Canada, it was titled as a 1958 Lotus (The car had to be at least 20 years old to legally import a Seven into Canada at the time). Features · The tires are brand new Toyo Proxes R888 205/60R13 ($800). · The Seven comes with a dry sump system which was purchased by the original owner and never installed (which I did not do either). · Also included are the original four fenders, nose, and a brand new aluminum louvered hood (which I purchased for $800 but never put on the car because I liked the patina of this 38 year old 7). The first owner purchased an extra set of fenders and nose which I installed on the car in 2009. · The Super Seven S3 has a complete top package: top, side doors, two types of tonneau. The waterpump was upgraded with an 'easy-out' water pump ($700). This allows the removal of the water pump without removing the head. Comments · This Twin Cam Super Seven S3 is 38 years old and the car has its assorted small dings as would be expected. The fiberglass has no spider cracks (although the extra original set does have some spider cracks and would have to be repainted to look perfect). · There are a few drops of oil when parked, but nothing serious. · The car runs great and is fast....brakes are awesome and pulls the car's 1,100 lbs to a stop quickly. · Everything is functional...this car definitely has a 'fun factor' of 5 ! · Car has a heater which actually helps when it is cool outside. · I added a third LED stop light (easily removed if desired). · I have tracked the car once and it is amazing on the track: truly a street legal race car. 1 bid at $25900 with a day and a half to run. Croc
2014 Caterham 270 at $37800 with 740miles. If you wanted a Caterham 160 I would buy this and stick the narrow wheels on it. http://www.ebay.com/itm/2014-Triumph-Other-/391648306508?forcerrptr=true&hash=item5b300ee54c:g:ECIAAOSwB09YSu1W&item=391648306508 2004 Ultralite at $28000 http://www.ebay.com/itm/2004-Lotus-Super-Seven-WCM-Ultralite-S2K-Replica-/152351307088?forcerrptr=true&hash=item2378d87550:g:PdsAAOSwHMJYGe5w&item=152351307088 The most interesting thing about this ad is that the Ultralite comes with a hood and sidescreens. I had never seen it before and post a a photo of what an Ultralite looks like with a roof on. http://www.usa7s.net/vb/attachment.php?attachmentid=12021&stc=1 I think it looks quite good given the aesthetic difficulties of adding a roof to a seven. Its a Lola replica built by Rotus. If you look at the various photos you can see Rotus based it on their regular seven chassis - just lengthened it. http://www.usa7s.net/vb/attachment.php?attachmentid=12022&stc=1 Replica of a 1960 Lola Mk I. Vehicle is titled as a 1995 ASVE with "Remarks: Replica 1965 Cate" as likely data pertaining to the Caterham Lotus Super 7. THIS IS THE ONLY CAR IN THE WORLD LIKE IT AS IT WAS CUSTOM MADE BY TWO ENGINEERS WHO HAD ROTUS FABRICATE THE FRAME (at a cost of over $25K alone) AND LENGTHEN FOR A 96" WHEELBASE. Car weighs approximately 1,760 lbs. and the engineers utilized a cad/cam program to design the body. According to the paperwork, they had in excess of $40K invested in this unique car. Data I have received with the car includes correspondence indicating photos had been supplied of the car during the construction of the frame at the Rotus shop in Hagerstown, MD, and indicate a driver 6'2" would fit. I'm 5'8" and a little chunky (220#) and I fit fine. The fender liners, side pods, and other sheet fiberglass components are Kalwall, a readily-available greenhouse construction material. The foam is blue Styrofoam building board "boat billet" and the epoxy and cloth/flox/filler system is from Aircraft Spruce & Specialty Company in Fullerton, CA. The guy who designed the construction process is Burt Rutan, who at the time, ran Scaled Composites Inc. in Mojave. Wherever they had to use screws or bolt-throughs in the foam, they drilled or cut holes, embedded hardwood blocks, and screwed into those. Everything was epoxy-dipped, glassed, and epoxied into place so fittings are vibration- and water-tight...similar construction as a racing boat. Not sure if the seats are original as they have been recovered, but the original seats were Corbeau. Sometime, I believe in 1997, the gentlemen took this car on a trip to "North Dakota and back, 2,400 flawless miles in eight days ...." The car has a Mazda 13B 2-Rotor Rotary (Wankel) engine which was originally turbocharged...conflicting information in the files included with the car indicate the engine might be 1988 or 1991 model year. Due to incessant flooding and fuel leaking issues, I stripped the turbo, fuel- and oil-injection parts, and electronic management parts off the car. These parts are all included with the car with the exception of the intake manifold which was given away to a friend last year. The induction system is now has a new wrap-over intake manifold with a new Weber 45DCOE side draft carburetor and a custom-made exhaust manifold was fabricated to connect to the exhaust system. The Crankshaft Angle Sensor (CAS) was replaced with a new previous-generation conventional distributor. Since the oil-injection system was properly blocked off I have been pre-mixing the fuel with 2-cycle oil...100:1 ratio...in order to preserve the Apex Seals. Engine now has a manual choke to assist in starting and idles well. I have only driven it through my neighborhood and all five gears, plus reverse, function fine. However, for some reason, the engine lacks power which I believe is a jetting issue (something I know nothing about). Oil pressure is great at 50 psi and there is no smoke when running. This is where an individual familiar with rotary engines who knows how to properly tune this animal can have some fun. Clutch & brakes appear to function fine, too. Frame is 1" square mild steel tubing TIG welded powder-coated. Front suspension is unequal A-arms of TIG welded tubular steel with inboard cantilevered rising rate Carrera coil-overs. The entire front suspension is forward of the engine making it a true front-mid engine car with resulting good handling qualities. Rear suspension is Toyota Supra live axle located by 4 trailing links and a Panhard rod. Springing again is Carrera adjustable coil-overs. Weight distribution with 1/2 tank of fuel and driver is 49% front and 51% rear. Brakes appear to function fine. Indicated mileage is 7,352 which I believe to be accurate. All of the data which I received goes with the car. The attention to detail the builders did is impressive. Other details: The windshield and frame is from an MGB. Tail lamps are Mazda Miata. Car has a full-width roll bar. The soft top and tonneau are supposed to snap into position but the previous owner removed the male snaps which were screwed into the body. The previous owner also tried to do some body work on the passenger side but never completed it. The paint color I believe I read somewhere is a Mazda or Subaru standard yellow color. Car is also equipped with five-point safety belt system with anti-submarine belt. A heater for the interior with an electric blower also functions fine, but the heater blower chatters a bit as the squirrel cage fan is likely rubbing something. Brakes are 9.5" non-vented (Carina?) all around and are activated by a Tilton bias-adjustable dual master system, steel braided lines, and Brembo semi-metallic pads. Wheels are Mini-Lite style with 225 60/15 tires. The actual Serial Number is "NY49624" and the data tag has been affixed to the driver's side door jamb issued by the State of New York and the car presently has a clear Texas Title indicating the model year is 1995. http://www.ebay.com/itm/1960-Replica-Kit-Makes-/162313876355?forcerrptr=true&hash=item25caa93383:g:obYAAOSwB09YSf2q&item=162313876355 Bidding is at $9200 with 1 day to go. panamericano
A repeater, non-Seven. This time with a dealer (consignment I expect). This a much better presentation with many interesting period photos, including one showing the Hoyt mixing it up with a Seven. Others with the body off. I think it should be a bit heavier than a Seven, but the Volvo power train is an excellent choice. On balance, a good way to go vintage racing. http://motoringinvestments.com/listings/lotus-seven-like-hoyt-special-1961/

Taber10
Happy New Year! 1972 Lotus 7 S4 $22995 http://www.ebay.com/itm/1972-Lotus-Super-Seven-/282310260462?forcerrptr=true&hash=item41bb00b6ee:g:px4AAOSwa~BYaLvW&item=282310260462 Yesterday, on my way back from Key West, I stopped to look at this Series 4, mainly because I don't get many opportunities to see a Series 4. I would say that it has some real "patina": there are cracks in the paint--I can't tell about the fiberglass. The exhaust is pretty rusted, I guess to be expected if it has been in Florida's salt air for that long. The agent was very helpful, but not that familiar with 7s--or even British cars for that matter. The showroom has a couple of MGs--a "B" and a "Midget" but primarily the stock is American iron. Couple of Italians there. The Lotus is on consignment from an older collector who has already sold off a couple of De Tomaso's, a Ferrari, etc. through this same outlet, so he isn't that worried that the Lotus has sat for nearly a year. The asking price has dropped from $29,995 to $22,995. One of the tires is flat, and there appears to be evidence of some '70s vintage insect inhabitation under the bonnet. I don't have time for this project as I have to get started on the Lego Caterham I got for Christmas!
panamericano
Taber10 reference: "I don't have time for this project as I have to get started on the Lego Caterham I got for Christmas!' I believe the Caterham webb site says one should be able to assemble their car in about 60 hours, if just a bit handy. Do track your time, to see how you match up to their expectations. Croc
I would say that it has some real "patina": there are cracks in the paint--I can't tell about the fiberglass. The exhaust is pretty rusted, I guess to be expected if it has been in Florida's salt air for that long. ........ One of the tires is flat, and there appears to be evidence of some '70s vintage insect inhabitation under the bonnet. Hi Taber - If that is the condition then it will still be for sale a year from now at that price. A bit disappointing to hear. You would think that it would be cleaned up and at least the tire reinflated to give it a chance of selling.
Anaximander
Taber - What suggested that "there appears to be evidence of some '70s vintage insect inhabitation under the bonnet"? What would 40 years of "insect inhabitation look like??? Thanks, Bob

Taber10
Taber - What suggested that "there appears to be evidence of some '70s vintage insect inhabitation under the bonnet"? What would 40 years of "insect inhabitation look like??? Thanks, Bob As you probably know, the Series 4 has a "one-piece" fibreglas nose and bonnet that hinges forward like an e-type. IF you looked under the bonnet and didn't get distracted by the webers, exhaust, etc. there was a baseball sized mud dauber nest that was so old that it appeared to have a varnish over the dirt. Given the whole facility--containing approx 200 cars!--was very clean, I am assuming the bugs were from before the car arrived at this facility, but actually I have no way of dating the nest accurately..... Anaximander
Taber, Here in the South as you well know, mud daubers are pretty much ubiquitous in stationary items. They are like little bee-like insects that make nests in the most curious places. We will frequently have mud dauber nests behind our articulating exterior shutters on our home. It just means that the car has sat up for considerable lengths of time. Thanks for scouting out this car for us. It is likely that the real value is as a Hagerty's condition #3 which would place the value at about $17.5k instead of the $22.9k they are asking for it. At $17.5k, I think it would be a fun project for someone. It has such low miles and would just need some TLC to likely bring it up to a #2 vehicle.
