Blokko
Hey Mike - purely by chance a colleague sent me a link from Craigslist to the second car in your noon posting (1964 Cosworth S2). Odd to see it as showing as $26.5k on Fleabay but $36.5k on Craigslist - here
Bemis
Some history on the 2003 SV appears to be here: http://www.lotustalk.com/forums/f162/2003-caterham-sv-w-duratech-engine-california-registered-97088/
Croc
Hi Steve - I think you saw a Fleabay auction strategy. I bet his reserve was around $35k and he started the auction low for bidding at $26k - low enough to get some interest and bid activity going. The BIN was probably just above the reserve. I am guessing but that seems to be the logic to explain the numbers.
panamericano
Croc, Did you just use lOGIC and FLEABAY together?
architect7777
Parkersburg Super Stalker - Yes it is real, excellent build, beautiful finish, scary quick....and mine now! Much thanks to Croc for posting this one! 72 Lotus Europa 78 Lotus Eclat 88 Lotus Esprit 91 Lotus Elan M100 05 Lotus Elise - supercharged so the Stalker isn't a "Lotus" but sure is a great addition to the garage
Croc
Congratulations Architect - I think you got an excellent deal. Glad it surfaced for you. Happy driving! :driving: Did you just use lOGIC and FLEABAY together? Now now Panamericano, there is nothing stopping me trying to apply logic even if there is none on Fleabay with most, nearly all, sellers. I never said the result was sensible which should fit in with your world view of Fleabay!
traveler501
To follow up on that '64 S2, I've been watching that car for awhile. He's listed it several times, in several places over the last year and I had already been talking with him. Long story short, when the latest Ebay auction ended he contacted me to see if I'd make a higher offer. He said he had a dealer offer of $30,500 in hand and had been trying to beat that. He said he also had a $31,500 offer from another dealer but it was too far away to make shipping it worthwhile (I'm guessing that was Wire Wheel…but it's just conjecture on my part). My problem with the car was lots of little stuff…gas gauge didn't work, lots of replacement panels (notably the rear fenders were S3, not S2). I have wanted an authentic Lotus, but the more I look around and think about it, the more I think a modern but classically appointed Birkin or Caterham might be better. I'm even tempted to turn my NA Miata into a Westie/Flyin Miata. My biggest reluctance there is having a Miata gauge cluster staring at me in a Lotus replica (!) Anyway….here's a little more info on that Lotus. Also thanks to Croc for doing this, I really appreciate this ongoing, updated list!
Croc
I am pretty sure it is the same car I saw a while back on the north coast of MA. When I looked at it then it looked great from 10 feet but up close the details did not work. Lots of Caterham parts used rather than the correct Lotus repro parts available in the UK. I could buy that nice Caterham in MD for $19k if I wanted that look. Also having owned an S2 (called Elvis!) I much prefer my modern Caterham. An addition to the list. This weekend you can bid or watch Mecum as they have this Stalker for sale: https://www.mecum.com/lot-detail/DA0915-222750/0/1962-Brunton-Lotus-S7-Replica/5-Speed/ On race-cars.com it was asking $39500 for a long time. No estimates presented on the website. I love the blue and white look. I suspect he won't get his asking price at auction either - its too out of the mainstream for what people are looking for. Either way it is the only time I know of a seven going though a mainstream auction house like Mecum (upmarket like Sotheby's and Bonhams do not count). It will be interesting to see what bids result. MPG
I think a modern but classically appointed Birkin or Caterham might be better. I'm even tempted to turn my NA Miata into a Westie/Flyin Miata. My biggest reluctance there is having a Miata gauge cluster staring at me in a Lotus replica (!) I'm currently building a Westie from my old NA. And yes, now that I'm working on the interior I'm realizing that I don't really think the Miata gauge cluster would look right. A number of people in the UK have created a real seven-ish dash from scratch. I think I'm going to follow them. It should keep me out of trouble over the winter. traveler501
@ MPG It's pretty exciting that you'll already doing this (NA/Westie). I'm curious how you like the kit and how well it's all going together. About gauges, I'm ok with debugging a car's wiring but have no experience with converting modern engine information for generic style gauges (or even vintage Smith stuff, which would be even better). Could you offer any links to those UK conversions? Any help at all would be greatly appreciated. @Croc That's really good to know, getting a comparison from someone who's owned both cars. I'm beginning to see the many advantages of these newer cars over "original" Lotus's which often started off as kits with questionable workmanship and 50 years of cobbling thereafter. Time to widen my search a bit *grin* Thanks for your comments.

They're all hanging out on the Westfield Sports Car Club forum, and they're very helpful. That's good, because the build manual is a bit spotty. It's useful to be able to talk to someone who's already done it. One issue is that the kit is particularly spotty on anything that's specific to LHD, and there aren't many people on that forum who have experience with these tweaks. One good resource for LHD specific issues is Dan's build diary. He's often around on this forum, and he made me very jealous with how quickly he completed his build. -MPG-
NVP66S
I guess I'm in the minority here. I rather like the Miata gauge cluster. But the speedo cable broke and I couldn't see the top 1/3 of the speedo and tach with the smaller steering wheel. So I bought individual VDO gauges and made my own cluster. The speedo doesn't use the cable, it has a GPS sensor. I also made the small carbon fiber subpanel for the mechanical oil pressure gauge and voltmeter. MPG
That looks really nice! What size wheel is that? You're looking through it at the bottom half of the pod? One problem with the flat dash is that I'll probably either have to ditch the indicators or put the big instruments over at the center of the car. I don't think that they can squeeze in between the binnacle around the Miata's indicator switches and the top of the scuttle. And what's the right-most instrument? I swapped the mechanical sender on the gearbox for an electronic one off a newer Miata so I should be able to use just about any speedo. But I am planning to squeeze in a GPS antennae too, for this thing.
traveler501
Just a quick thanks for all the gauge/instrument cluster information! Among other things I had no idea that the later Miatas had electronic speedo info, or that GPS speedos existed! (getting old and out of touch I guess *grin*) All of this is very exciting. Also, NVP66S…great looking dash arrangement! I think the way you've reworked it makes it look quite classic.
