I am on my 2nd bike powered car-here is my first one at an autocross (my daughters 1st time in the car) powered by a Honda CBR1000 engine,as you can see it moves pretty well! It's not a torque monster, but these cars don't weigh much. Rich

Rich, thanks for sharing that delightful autox footage. I used to own an R1 engine in an R1 motorcycle and it would routinely cause a part of my anatomy to pucker at times. Bob

BeagleGuy: Many (most?) bike-engined se7ens lack a reverse gear (like the motorcycles they are based on). Some have an electric reverse, etc., so this one might. But without reverse, it's a deal killer for me, esp if mostly intended for street use. Since they do weigh 150-250 lbs less than their auto engine/car transmission counterparts they can really scoot. This one appears to have a sequential transmission (like most bikes), a $7K option on a Caterham. That also makes it terrific, say, on an auto-X course.

FWIW, the Mk Indy seller must be gauging interest and adjusting his price. It was previously offered at 18.9k. Usually people that want to sell reduce their price if they actually want to sell and it's been on the market as long as this one has.

That is kind of funny. We are selling our home and wanted to raise the price in the more stimulated market and the realtor advised that if everyone else with a similar home raised their home a similar amount, then it would be a good strategy. However, barring everyone raising their price, the market pretty much dictates what things sell for.

I suspect if one of our savvy USA7's members offered this person something less than asking and possibly less than the previous asking price with cash in hand that a deal could be struck? The seller was open to "interesting trades" and this seems like an opening to me that the marketplace is not rushing to his/her door to buy this interesting but somewhat limited car. I use reverse fairly often in my Storker and both of my trikes (Harley and Can-Am Spyder) have reverses on them.

Good powers of observation - you have been monitoring. He has come down a long way from mid-20s since first offering. It does not help that the ad is so limited in any form of detail although photos of the car have marginally improved since it first came up for sale.

Dude, you spend half your life rotating around backwards while still in a forward gear and still you want reverse?

Croc: In my own defense, I rarely spin out when parking:)!

All this rhetorical chat of spinning about while still engaged in a forward gear. Why don't the two of you confer with a professional forward-gear spinner-arounder such as myself? :jester:

Thanks for bringing this point up ... I hadn't given any thought to it potentially lacking a reverse gear. This would be a deal breaker for me also ... Whatever I end up purchasing will see track use and autox use!

I thought that too. Even though I have reverse in my Birkin, I hardly ever use it. Plus, sevens are so easy to push that it wouldn't have been as big of a thing as I thought it would.

Does anyone know if I were to buy this MK Indy and decided I wanted more power . . . would it be a huge undertaking to drop in a different engine?

The term ‘huge undertaking’ is relative. But before entering into that discussion, why not simply consider buying a different car with the engine you want?

Just remember that it may also necessitate a new gearbox, driveshaft, intakes, exhaust, ECU. Costs can easily exceed the cost of just selling it and buying another one. Why do you think I now have two caterhams. ;>)

Emotionally delicate?

Hoarder in need of saving?

Forgetful?

Complements your hair?

Lost the car in your cluttered garage?

Need a few more years to use up all those K series engine spares, head gaskets, plastic engine dowels, etc?

Don't want to give Kathy the chance to purloin the sale funds for more shoes, kitchen, shoes, holiday, shoes, grandchildren, shoes, etc?

Why sell the yellow car which is the one you are fastest in?

It does not run therefore cannot be sold until fixed?

Its cheaper than an affair?

Nicer than a Porsche?

I could go on..... Should I continue? :jester:

Edited to add - I just looked at the laundry list of my automotive money pits in the signature footer to this post........and admit that I am not much better...

Actually a few of those are correct. I am faster in it. I do have a ton of spares, I have an emotional attachment to it since I built it, and the shoe explanation is Waay too close to home. :smash: What hair?
