yellowss7
A suite for the day would be an excellent idea, however the suites are on TBolt and we will be on Lightning, so they can't just sit in the suites and see us. I have a funny feeling that the wives will find a way to spend some money while we are contributing to Global warming.
MichaelD
I was a great idea. I am glad Tom spotted the flaw though. Besides, the beach and discount malls can't be that far away and there is always the pool and the clubhouse.
Klasik-69
Well I'm keeping the on track suite as a convenient cooling off place and even maybe a good place for a little nap. The fact that it's on the other track makes little difference to me. I think you're right about the wives going to the stores vs the track, at least mine will. At this stage of the game, what's another $400.
Kitcat
I checked NJMP's website just now and saw that they also rent "villas" on the track. They look much nicer than the suites, tho they cost proportionately more ($300 vs $100 + tax). After being shut out at the Marriott Fairfield, I booked a room at H Inn Express, but now have changed my mind and signed-up for the on-track Suites instead. Costs a few pennies less than H.Inn and is certainly more convenient-tho much plainer.
yellowss7
Mike, the villas are individually owned condos. I believe that they are 3 bedroom units. Very nice. I stayed in one that had separate top and bottom units. Very nicely appointed and right on the Villa turn on Tbolt. Tom
xcarguy
Video planning has begun . . . . I do have to talk with someone about a drone for aerial shots this year and this post has just reminded me (thank you Coffee Break!) that I need to talk to the NJMP official track photographer about getting a group photo and getting photos of us all "performing" on track. Revisiting a 2007 gathering, could we get similar group shots?
Croc
We will have to see. A minor detail that has emerged on my drone discussions is that NJMP is actually next to Millville airport (duh! talk about not thinking this through first!). The eastern half of Lightning is the runway approach. They do come in quite low over that part of the circuit (maybe 100 foot up over the bowl). While it may only be Cessnas and similar pieces of aeronautical flimsy, I would not want to be the person who brought one down in my quest to photo sevens from above. Kitcat
I remember that photo. Al an Mazda brought in a large truck with a huge cherry picker and up, up it went. We all smiled, the camera clicked and what you see above is the photo that appeared in Automobile Magazine, as I recall. I esp remember it because, when it was over, every one left, and my car wouldn't start, but that's a different story:).

What about an evening shot (post track sessions) with all cars gathered around the start line. Take the shot from the flag station if the structure is high enough. Or maybe NJMP has a bucket truck handy.
yellowss7
I though we already figured out the shot using the grandstand as the platform for the camera. :toetap05:
Croc
We did Tom. No disagreement or change from what we agreed re group photo. However, I had ideas of using a drone to get aerial video of us driving... Then I realized it would get hit by a plane on approach....
yellowss7
If you keep it low, say 50 or so feet, maybe at turn 7 off the track or over on the straight coming off the bowl, by the flagger station. You wouldn't be over the track, and you could keep it low enough that no one would know. If you're talking about a view of the whole track, then No, you'd have to get too high and with the airport right there, I agree that that's a no go. But I like the way you think. A shot from the flag station on the front straight with us all lined up on track would be a great end of day shot. Especially with the low sun angle coming from turn one. Klasik-69
For any of you traveling from the south, I was able to confirm that the Cape May Lewes Ferry does allow truck and trailer combos. This takes you from the northern end of Delaware to the southern tip of NJ and is a fantastic ride. Also, the ride through Delaware coming up from Norfolk is very picturesque, not to mention the awesome bay bridge/tunnel linking Norfolk to Maryland and Delaware. AND, the best part of this you avoid all the traffic mess of DC, Baltimore and Philly. Cost on the Ferry one way with a truck and trailer combo 35 feet to 45 feet in combined length is $58. My truck and open car trailer measures 43 feet. If you have an enclosed trailer which is longer, the price for the next size of 45 feet to 60 feet jumps to $71 each way.:driving: I'm getting excited just thinking about this event. S1Steve
Hi Everybody, I have done all the prep and even had it inspected yesterday. So I am very ready for our up coming NJMP track folly. I hope the rest are well under way also. See everyone on the 3rd.... Steve
Kitcat
Steve: Lookin good! Definitely passes the "broomstick test". Preps at my end are continuing. I have been fiddling w/a Prodigy remote braking system for my trailer. Nothing on it works like it is supposed to, so lots of fettling, internet searching, etc. Shd be right by July tho. If not, well, I have gotten this far w/o it.
S1Steve
Mike, The bar is one that DaveD had made for our S1s. It's tall, but I did a broomstick test on my own. I'm not that far under it.LOL.... I would say you may have the 4 wires crossed on your Prodigy. Mine took 5 min. to hook up on my GMC Envoy, and has worked great every time. It may be the VW is fighting back somehow..... Edited May 24, 2014 by S1Steve
Kitcat
Steve: My Prodigy has no wires to cross: it has a handheld control module that plugs into the AC outlet in my console. it communicates via bluetooth with the brake power module box I attached to my trailer and plugged into my trailer elec via the7-way cable. I am supposed to be able to program it for how much boost, etc. It sez its not connected tho. Yet, when I hit the brakes more than slightly, all 4 trailer brakes lock up: so its connected, and maybe at some default setting. That's w/trailer empty, I am assuming with the weight of the car, etc., that the trailer wont lock its brakes as easily. Maybe its the VW (it is speaking German and the Prodigy, is speaking English:)). I will do some more on-line research.
bball7754
Mike - try their help line. I called it when I had issues getting mine to synch and they were actually very helpful - which is not always the case with help lines.
Kitcat
Thx Steve, will do. Never considered it since my experience is that calling a help-line is an exercise in frustration. Typically a 30' wait followed by a person communicating in broken English who has to keep checking with their supervisor and finally offers a lame suggestion and sez call back if that doesn't work (right...). bball7754
I was surprised to find out that they are a US company, and that the controllers are made here also - in Michigan I think. So, no overseas help desk.
