You are soooo right...tough to explain that to some thick-headed know-it-all. I bet some would try to claim the video was an internet hoax!

Very educational...

Thanks for sharing!

Interesting demonstration, I remember studying this in machine design. Way back in time when a 4 banger was also a calculator and slide rules were still used.

Didn't know there was that much to it. Curious what you do for phasing when you buy a new shaft?

Mondo,

When you order a new shaft, the U-joint cradles should be phased by the drive shaft builder. The burden of getting the angles right is on the shoulders of the installer. Here are two links to a couple of photos of drive shaft I've had built. Notice in both photos that the drive shaft cradles are 'welded in phase' by the shaft builder:

This was posted on the Stalker forum by one of our own; thought I'd pass it along. Probably the best (and simplest) explanation I've ever seen regarding proper driveshaft setup:

Hi Shane, That's a great explanation on how a driveshaft works or doesn't.

Also thanks for posting those two photo's of driveshafts you had made, I just

spent a good half hour looking at all your build photo's. Time flys when your having fun....

Tell your Dad I said hi.. Fun Guy...

Great video. For front wheel drive, phasing the U-joints is not good enough because of the bigger angles. They usually use a Rzeppa joint, also called Constant Velocity, or CV joint. This video's not as good, but...

Hey, Steve,

Dad and I had a fanstastic time! I do hope to do NJMP again next year if all works out. I'll definitely tell him you said hello. Can hardly wait to see what Croc comes up with, video-wise that is.

Well, I've learned a new word tonight . . . Rzeppa. I can't pronounce it, but I can spell it and I know what it does. Very educational. :jester:
