  1. When I stumbled upon this I just had to hop out and take a picture. Just after I pressed the shutter a lady walked up and asked, "What kind of car is that?" Without hesitation I answered, "It's a Wienermobile."
  2. Some guys just have to drive the biggest "car." http://i33.tinypic.com/2le1mdz.jpg
  3. Yeah, it's pretty easy to do just that - look down the length of the camera and line it up. I usually do a quick check by shooting a few seconds of video and then look at it on my laptop to check the framing. You can also use the HDMI out on the Replay XD to send the video signal to an external monitor (such as the one Replay sells) or laptop and check the framing live before you start recording your drive.
  4. I have the Replay XD and really like it. The "lipstick cam" shape is so much easier to mount and unobtrusive on the car - I use one of the Replay mounts to attach it directly to the rollbar on the 7. I also have a couple of the Contour HD cameras and have had good results with those as well but the Replay has so much going for it in terms of video options as well as accessories.
  5. What a great event that must have been. So many beautiful cars. Thanks for posting the link to that. I appreciate that the site has all the photos available in hi-res (just click on a picture) to allow better study of the details.
  6. Yep. If you were to mount it tucked down low (as shown in the photo), in the dirty air downstream of the windshield, driver, headrests and roll bar it'd pretty much just along for the ride. Sounds like he's intending to mount it higher.
  7. I think I ordered from Fluke during the transition as all my dealings were with a German fellow and the parts were shipped to me from Germany.
  8. Wasn't the pair you bought the ones from Sevenspeed? I ordered a set of those back in May or June of last year and waited and waited... first for a pair to be made (weeks), then for the thermostat of the autoclave to get replaced (weeks) then, (more weeks) finally was told the mold was damaged and they couldn't be made at all. For these from Fluke the wait was a week or so. They differ from the ones shown on page 9 of this thread in that they don't extend as far back toward the trailing edge of the A-arm. No suspension disassembly was needed. I had to trim the outer trailer edge of both pieces to clear the lower shock mount. I also covered them with 3M clear bra material. As for mounting, I just used 3M double-side trap (the grey stuff) along the leading edge and along the inner and out edges where the carbon "wings" made contact with the A-arms. They are securely attached but removable if need be. Any yes, there was some lightening of the wallet.
  9. I've just added these carbon bits from Fluke Motorsport. They've shaved seconds off my lap times, increased my downforce and lowered my cholesterol. You've got to like that. http://i49.tinypic.com/122nog1.jpg
  10. Textbook example of "Just because you can, doesn't mean you should."
  11. http://usa7s.com/vb/attachment.php?attachmentid=4463&stc=1&thumb=1&d=1346466071 The Panasports look great on your car. What sizes are the wheels and tires?
  12. Once you have your car registered in California via the SB100/SPCN (Special Construction) process it is exempt from ever having to go through a smog check.
  13. I ordered a copy direct from Catherham's website. I don't know if it is in PAL or NTSC format but my computer will certainly play either format.
  14. The doors are the "standard" Caterham doors that hinge on the windshield frame. So it's just a matter of opening the door, putting your right foot in first and then just slide on in. Taking the steering wheel off makes it a bit easier. Of course, you also have the option of taking the doors off and putting on the wind deflectors for a more open - yet covered - drive. http://i48.tinypic.com/2eurjt5.jpg http://i47.tinypic.com/2d8jmhh.jpg
  15. I just received a few items from the good people at Thundersport in the UK. I dealt with Sam Walter there (all by email) and everything went very smoothly. Here are a few photos (quick cellphone pics) of the half hood they made for my SV. It's beautifully made and fits perfectly. My son and I took it for a quick lunch run and we like it very much. Even though I have the full top for the car I have yet to use it so this is the first time I've driven the 7 with any sort of roof on it and it certainly feels a bit different. I also received a couple of Thudersport's bulkhead bags (soft-side "suitcases" that slip in behind the seats) and they are great as well. I'll post more about them later. http://oi46.tinypic.com/33dflv7.jpg http://oi45.tinypic.com/30ky8mc.jpg http://oi48.tinypic.com/35373ep.jpg
  16. The balloon was sighted at high altitude over the Los Angeles area Sunday.
  17. There's nothing like a good joke. And that was nothing like a good joke.
  18. I love the subtitle for the article: "Caterham has eluded to the possibility of a supercharged Caterham 'R600'"
  19. A true racing trans (sequential, straight-cut gears with a proper clutch)? Doubtful. More likely they will use one of the many street car auto transmissions (usually with a torque converter) that have "paddle" shifters.
  20. Sounds like a muffler issue.
  21. Photo 80.
  22. Thanks for sharing. You managed to get a picture of my car in there.
  23. Yeah, in California, the "year" is just an emissions thing. The reference year chosen for that purpose doesn't appear on the title or registration. The actual year of the car shows up on those documents.
  24. The engine is a 2004 Ford Zetec SVT unit. The referee had me add a 5/8" PCV hose between the back of the valve cover and the air filter. That was the only addition needed. I removed the small K&N breather filter from the fitting at the back of the valve cover and ran the hose from there to a fitting I added to the top of the air filter. Make sure you use either hose that is rated for PCV or fuel. If you use heater hose the referee won't pass it. http://i45.tinypic.com/2rmnx41.jpg
