  1. I've known Dan, his wife Evi, and many of the AAR team for years. They are absolutely first class in every way.
  2. As an aside, I spent a couple hours with Dan Gurney earlier this week at his offices. We talked about many things but one topic, in particular, was my Caterham. When he learned I had one, he had a lot of questions about it and I promised to bring it by soon for him to see. He is one of the greatest people you could ever hope to meet.
  3. Not the most informative angle but here's the dash of my Caterham which features the usual layout from the factory. http://i60.tinypic.com/szh7it.jpg
  4. As others have said that's way too high for such a light car and can make it very skittish - not to mention the rough ride. I run the Toyos on my Caterham around 18psi.
  5. Correct. Orders shipped to the US don't get the V.A.T. added on.
  6. Those are the headlights I fitted to my Caterham. Worth every penny. The source mentioned in the OP has them at a new, lower price. http://www.carbuildersolutions.com/en/all-in-one-headlamp-all-black http://i42.tinypic.com/2rpg2z5.jpg http://i43.tinypic.com/30wm1wy.jpg http://i40.tinypic.com/2yya1ox.jpg http://i41.tinypic.com/dfntf.jpg
  7. Yes, in addition to using mirror extensions I have a rear view camera mounted up high over the back door of my 19ft enclosed trailer. My tow vehicle is a supercharged F150 crew cab. I installed a small rear view video camera on the back of the truck (adjacent to the tailgate handle). The signal from the camera is visible on the screen of a Kenwood double-din receiver I installed in the dash. It comes on automatically when you shift into reverse or it can be manually selected via a button on the Kenwood unit. When I tow the trailer, I unplug the video line from the tailgate camera and plug in the video line from the trailer camera. Being able to see whats behind the trailer while towing - and when backing up - has been a real plus.
  8. A friend of mine has one of those - complete - sitting in his shop. Beautiful engine but it's a big lump.
  9. The great thing about taking that approach is not only are you preserving the integrity of the car, you are also honoring your grandfather, his love for the car and his love for his family. Best of luck in the times ahead.
  10. At long last, a Handeling thread. Hallelujah.
  11. But the 3-cylinder, two-stroke SAAB engines could be tuned to increase the output. The GT 850 mills (841cc) could be modified back in the day per SAAB Sport & Rally specs to put out much more than the stock 55hp. Carburetor and exhaust mods - along with altering the intake and exhaust ports and so-called "finger porting" of the internal transfer ports - could bring numbers in the range of 100hp. Not bad for an engine that was very compact and only had seven moving parts.
  12. The description of the seats from your link says "...can be retro fitted to any Caterham car." It goes on to say it is: "Supplied with a fitting kit..." so overall it certainly sounds like they'd work. Why not contact Caterham and ask them directly?
  13. Have you checked the headlight switch, itself, to see if it operating properly?
  14. The Webers will be happy with a pressure of 4psi. Take a look at this Carter fuel pump. It puts out all the volume you'll need and doesn't require a separate pressure regulator. http://www.racetep.com/webfuelspark.html
  15. According to Auto Express:
  16. Zoom in on the photo of the supercharger in the plexi display case and just ahead of the "C" in Caterham you'll see the water inlet and outlet tubes for the intercooler that is tucked inside the housing.
  17. Yes, those are the headlights I used - aka Venom headlights. I bought them from europaspares.com. I painted them gloss black to match and mounted them using lowering brackets that I got from westermann-motorsport.com. They normally use an H-1 halogen bulb but I installed an HID conversion kit. To get the integrated LED turn signal and DRL arrays to work properly I used little modules from exled.com that replicate the way Audi LED signals and DRLs work. For example, when you switch the turn signal lever to the left, the left DRL (white LEDs) turns off and the circular array of amber LEDs flash. Cancel the the turn signal, the amber LEDs stop flashing and the white DRL LEDs come back on. I really like how they work and how they look. I think the front end of the car is much cleaner looking now. http://i41.tinypic.com/dfntf.jpg
  18. I agree with your comments about the stock headlights. I think they are a BIG part of why some (uninformed members of the masses) ask "Is that a dune buggy or something?" The timing of your question couldn't be better. I just finished installing these yesterday. Sleek projectors (which I converted to HID) that have integrated LED turn signals and DRLs. http://i42.tinypic.com/2rpg2z5.jpg http://i43.tinypic.com/icu06e.jpg http://i43.tinypic.com/30wm1wy.jpg http://i40.tinypic.com/2yya1ox.jpg
  19. A good friend of mine owns a beautiful one. It is extremely well made and - in large part because of some mods he's made - a beautiful car to look at. He offered to sell it to me about a year and half back when I was in the market for a fun car. I drove it and enjoyed the power and sound of the big V8. It seemed to handle well but I never really pushed it. I did feel more like I was sitting on the car rather than in it. That, combined with the lack of any rollover protection made me a bit uncomfortable. By comparison, the Caterham I ended up buying begs to pushed and I feel like I'm securely down down in the car and know exactly what it's doing.
  20. On the old Indy roadsters that side-mounted tank was for oil. The fuel tank was in the rear, behind the driver, just as on our Sevens.
  21. The blue Lotus 7 actually belongs to a friend of mine. He bought it several years ago after its original owner - another long time friend - passed away. That gentleman owned the car from it was new in 1963. The friend that owns the Lotus 7 now is also the one who built up that immaculate Elan (which I also had a bit of involvement with) for Jay Leno using a NOS Lotus factory 26R body. We brought the two cars (the Lotus 7 and Elan) over in a friend's trailer so that's why they were together. After the show we trailered them back to Leno's shop with me following in the Caterham. It truly was a great show and I enjoyed talking with you. I certainly was not expecting it to be such a big turnout. I ended up taking over 350 pictures that day.
  22. Here ya' go... http://i42.tinypic.com/o0nwr5.jpg http://i41.tinypic.com/289eu6g.jpg http://i44.tinypic.com/14y4qp5.jpg
  23. I was there last Saturday. Big turnout. I'll shoot for going again in two or three weeks. I'm working on a bit of a modification to the car that should be ready by then (fingers crossed). I also did the all-British car show up in Woodley park (Van Nuys) a couple weeks back. Huge show. http://i43.tinypic.com/t55big.jpg http://i42.tinypic.com/nvps49.jpg http://i42.tinypic.com/195k6.jpg ps - No Cars & Coffee (Irvine) on May 4 due to the Marathon nearby.
