It does seem a bit counterintuitive but it also depends a great deal on where you are with existing pressures. It may well be that, for a given condition (track, temp, tires) you are already running pressures too high on the fronts. Dig around online and you'll find lots of good articles that address the question of understeer/oversteer and car setup.
-
No. When trying to reduce the tendency for a car to understeer you want to raise the front tire pressure and/or lower the rear tire pressure. However, as Davemk1 points out above, you want to be sure you aren't already running too much camber in the front. Checking tire temps is key.
-
Correct. There are a variety of measures that can be taken to combat understeer. Stiffening the rear anti-roll bar is one of them. Others include: Soften the front anti-roll bar. Raise the front tire pressure. Reduce the rear tire pressure. Install wider front tires. Install narrower rear tire. Increase front toe-out. Reduce rear toe-in. Decrease front ride height. Increase rear hide height. Soften the front shocks. Stiffen the rear shocks. Increase negative camber on the front wheels.

I'm not familiar with the pedal setup on the Westfield but on my Caterham I had to do some bending of the brake pedal to move it close enough to the gas pedal. The other critical thing is to adjust the brake pedal such that when you are under hard braking it is more or less on the same plane as the gas pedal. As for "heel and toe," in my case, I have the ball of the right foot on the brake and blip the gas pedal with the outside edge of the foot. As such, neither my heel or toe(s) are truly involved. Wish I could be of more help.

No, I don't think you do.

I bought a complete kit (heating elements, wiring, switches) to add heating to the seats in my Caterham but haven't done the installation yet. My Boxster S has heated seats and there have been many cool days and cold nights that we have enjoyed driving with the top down while the heater, and seat heaters, chase the cold away.

Interesting stuff, BusaNostra. Well done. By the way, when using Tinypic to host pictures, if you copy and paste the link that begins and ends with "IMG" in brackets (second link down that's labeled "IMG Code for Forums & Message Boards") rather than the links you've used in your posts above, your pictures will automatically appear in your posts as shown below. If your pictures are large, you can use the Resize feature to bring them down to an appropriate size (1024 x 768 is what I used). http://i57.tinypic.com/bi2r12.jpg http://i60.tinypic.com/2uesfvb.jpg http://i58.tinypic.com/ifz6hh.jpg

Where is "here?" This forum? The U.S.? Somewhere else?

Any backfiring when trying to get it started? Check and make sure you haven't crossed up the plug wires on 1 and 4.

You didn't specify which Cosworth engine but it is probably 1 - 3 - 4 - 2.

I don't know about yours but mine has been unquestionably terrific and is about to get even better. -

Are you telling, or asking? How is that a question? Or that one? -

I don't understand the question.

All the Packard PT boat engines were V12s. -
it's a shame they didn't produce the one they first showed a couple of years ago. I would likely have bought one of those - and I don't typically buy quartz watches. Perhaps they weren't able to come to terms on a licensing agreement since BRM had done the deal to do the the Caterham F1 watches. http://ablogtowatch.wpengine.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/01/uniq-caterham-watch-2.gif http://ablogtowatch.wpengine.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/01/uniq-caterham-watch-3.gif http://www.ablogtowatch.com/uniq-caterham-seven-watch/

My engines are oil-injected units - the chromed oil tank is visible just aft of the tall swirl pot. I do, however, add a little oil in the gas to help lubricate the top end. As for power, we took a 40hp motor and coaxed up to the 85hp range. I've heard stories of guys in Sweden getting a hundred or so out of them but that wouldn't be a very streetable (or long-lived) engine. I'll have to see what I have in the way of video/audio. I do have a lot of cool in-car race footage from various Monterey Historics and other events but they don't give you the true sound. I can tell you that when I run it with the expansion chamber open it is very, very loud. I love it. Here we are on the cover of Autoweek from a few years back. Nice surprise to find in the mailbox. http://i57.tinypic.com/x2mqlx.jpg -

The entire car (without me in it) weighs a bit more than 900 pounds. The engine is fairly compact. I can pick it up - not easily, but I can. Remember, it's only 3 cylinders and they were 750cc and 850cc in displacement. My engines are bored out to 940cc and ported per SAAB factory Sport & Rally specs from the early sixties. http://i60.tinypic.com/2lv0mmq.jpg http://i62.tinypic.com/2jdi2iv.jpg -

The guy you need to call for any vintage SAAB information, repair and restoration work is Bud Clark at J & B Imports in Orange, California. He is the single most knowledgeable person on the planet when it comes to the SAAB 2-stroke engine. He knows how to fix them, rebuild the cranks, do performance porting and all the rest. He also knows all there is to know about the transmissions including the ultra-rare SAAB Sport & Rally close-ratio gearboxes. He builds the 2-stroke SAAB engines for my Quantum IV race car. Only seven moving parts in that little marvel. Give him a call at 714-282-7378 http://24.media.tumblr.com/23b3649119834f87bdcc1d20c4fcf7fe/tumblr_mioiks9aJW1rxp2iro3_1280.jpg http://trackthoughts.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/012_M080306.jpg -

As an aside, it was on this day, the 7th of April, in 1968 that Jim Clark died in the F2 race at Hockenheim.
