  1. Toe out = turns in quicker/twitchier. Great for auto-x where top speeds are lower and all you do it turn. I like a bit of toe-in for track days as it makes the car more stable at speed. And Caterham turn-in is still pretty phenomenal. I suspect its a personal preference tho.
  2. At some point this project stopped being mechanical and turned into art! May I suggest that you relabel the Union Jack button from "No button function" to "shorted out". It just seems more intuitive:)!
  3. Chet Huntley, just sayin:). And I will take a C7 'Vette any day.
  4. Most se7ens that auto-X also run "cone catchers" before the rear fenders (Metal bar that extends out and hits the cone, saving the fragile fender from damage). Are you taking your chances, or are the Westfield's fenders sturdier than Caterham's?
  5. Thx Dave-great way to start a Friday off! The before/after front tire shots are impressive!!! The mountains aren't bad either:)! I also like the front license plate mod-it's first hot-rodded plate I have seen. Surprising how much visual enhancement is provided by the yellow nose ring, maybe I need to back into my se7en:)?
  6. Thx Tom and Glen. Excellent editing/video photography, much better than the usual point-shoot stuff I get from my GoPro. The resolution was so fine that I could almost see the parts failing on my Birkin:).
  7. Dave: I too love the pic of your Westfield. How 'bout some more over in the member rides section? Love the color choice as well, esp with the yellow nose ring. Whole car looks well thought-out. Also looks like you have enough rubber:).
  8. Make sure it is aligned correctly with the specs Dick Brink recommends.Check every nut and bolt in the suspension, check engine mounts, steering rack and anything else that can come loose front and back. My Birkin's squirelyness was always due to something in those areas.
  9. CASwede: And most of the 100 are on YouTube, just a quick Google search away.
  10. I love that you passed the Z/28. The ultimate track weapon gets stuffed by a home-built jalopy (His perspective, not mine:)).
  11. Hopefully good news is a week away!. Take your wife in as a second set of eyes and ears. I have found over the years in my practice as a disability attorney that the person who is recovering has a hard time interpreting the doctor's advice. The pessimists see imminent disaster and optimists are just weeks away from full recovery. And your subjective sense of your pain/discomfort level is the best indicator of progress. There is no "pain meter," so no way the MRI's and EKGs can explain your symptoms. Following the doctor's advice seems to be the best predictor of recovery (PT,OT, meds, stay as active as feasible, etc.). My clients who are injured and retire to the couch to wait for the pain to go away, with liberal does of tv and alcohol, never get better. I know that is not you so I am hopeful.
  12. If you want to hurt me, give me a Ted Cruz doll:). YOU are getting the Hillary stuff....
  13. Croc has zero sense of humor! And Tom (YellowSS) is no better:).
  14. 3.5 negative camber seems mammoth, I think I run minus 2 but... ??? Seb, where did you buy your Avons? And why did you switch from the 195 CR 500's? The cycle fenders are about $250 per side, so not a cheap switch. I am running the CSR front fenders and have trouble finding anything small enough to fit under them.
  15. Looks sleeker than the standard model. Obviously wider, how does the interior length compare to the standard model (more leg room, seat goes back farther, etc?). Why not bring it to NJMP se7ens event in July so we can do a paddock and an on-track comparison:)!
  16. Best way to know if this is the car for you is to take this car, or one nearer to you, for a spin. You will be amazed, likely in both good and bad ways, at how different it is than a normal sports car, like a Miata. I agree with the sentiment expressed earlier that this is an excellent example of a late model Caterham at a very reasonable proce.
  17. Just bombed our garage which was being reduced to dust by hordes of carpenter bees.
  18. I have an '03 Superlight w/Zetec, 6 sp etc., and find the engine very forgiving. It is very torquey and easy to drive slowly or to putter around in. And if you need it, the power is always there, just depends how hard you press the gas pedal. It is very fast to 80 mph when aero drag slows it considerably-still speedy but most fast cars pull away on the straights (only to be caught at the first corner). Suspension is very stiff (If I jack up the right front wheel, the left goes up with it).
  19. Croc: You mite get a bigger response if you made the Accusump issue a separate thread? I suspect the recently blown Duratec is making track guys who aren't dry-sumped interested in this topic. As you mite recall, my Zetec Cat has an Accusump but I bought it with that installed. Beachman Racing did the install. Since they are also now a Caterham dealer, they should be able to make some suggestions. Mine was installed in the area where the passenger seat would ordinarily go, so finding a different location would make sense. I have seen them on the flat surface in the engine bay just in front of the passenger side cowl.
  20. Tom: Will Karl (Blubarisax) be making a guest appearance at the event? He was an early supporter of the gathering and will be missed if he can't come for a day at least. And I for one, would be happy to sample some of his newly distilled firewater and give him some totally objective feed back on its quality:).
  21. Simon-I sent you a e-mail so check there. I originally thot you had a Duratec Birkin but I guess it is Caterham? Anyhow, my recommendation is to do an Accusump system on your replacement engine, which my Zetec powered Caterham uses.
  22. I was on track 2 days ago with a run group that included a BMW X5 that was the 3rd fastest out there. I wasn't able to find him in the paddock to learn what, if anything, he'd done to his vehicle. I know he pulled me on the straights and hung with me incredibly well in the curves and was the only vehicle braking as late as I was.
  23. I see the new Volvo XC90 has specially designed seats that can absorb huge vertical G's so as to reduce the chance of spinal compression. Shane, I think you'd want to pass on the new "Bursting Blue" metallic paint option tho(:.
  24. Looks like a steerable motor with a place to attach a seat:). And I mean that as a compliment!
  25. Shane: You nailed it! I'd love nothing more than a session (1/2 session?) out there on the track in our tow vehicles. My Touareg is pretty nimble and lends it self to my, er, "agricultural" approach to trackdays. I would enjoy seeing what kind of time I could post. Perhaps this could be an adjunct to the karting:)? Make it happen Croc/Tom!
