  1. For Birkin owners, the Caterham quarter-doors fit on a Birkin perfectly. I bought a new set off ebay several years ago and added my own snaps to match the male snaps already on the car. As Martin said, they really cut down on road debris flying into the cockpit while reducing wind buffeting. They have a molded recess so you can still rest your arm on the side sill of the car.
  2. Gert, I've got the Toyo T1R's 195 front and 225 rear. You can check them out Sunday! Over 10,000 miles with a few track days and still plenty of tread left, evenly worn. Stan
  3. I don't remember if I replied, but I did get my packet. Thanks!
  4. As Hank mentioned, a removable steering wheel is a great anti-theft device! I always take it with me. And I generally trust people to leave the car alone. Famous last words?
  5. I pretty much agree with everything Mike said. Last summer my wife's minivan was hit and ended up spending two weeks in the body shop being repaired. So she drove my daily driver and I drove my Birkin to work. It was great in the morning, nice and cool and very little traffic at 6:30am. Going home in rush hour traffic was miserable, very hot and I felt very vulnerable around all the trucks and SUVs. Of course they all had their windows closed and AC on, so they weren't likely to hear me. I have solved two of Mike's problems though - I got rid of the sealed beam headlights and installed the European style bulb and lens. Much better for night driving! I also got rid of the ignition key/switch and installed a push button start/on-off switch, no more key to forget or hit with my knee while driving and turning the car off accidentally.
  6. For those thinking about going, we've decided on the basic route and posted the motels on the Caterham Club web site: http://www.californiacaterhamclub.com/chat/showthread.php?t=1185&page=2
  7. Like Gert, I have a Birkin live axle and have always had the clunk.
  8. Nice, thank you! They must have used industrial strength Brylcreem to keep his hair in place!
  9. Rod, your link goes to a thread in the LocostUSA forum, but I couldn't find the video. I would like to see it though! Stan
  10. Very nice! I do believe April is my favorite month Thanks Martin!
  11. That is amazing, a whole forum dedicated to garages! Looks like there is lots of good information there too. I'm currently looking around at storage cabinets to tidy up our garage.

  13. Happy Holidays! http://www.usa7s.com/aspnetforum/upload/734886365_DSCN1426.jpg (old pic of my first Birkin before the local Xmas parade)
  14. Morgan, who are the US hosts? Thanks,
  15. All about these cars: Peel Microcars
  16. In another thread I mentioned that my winter plans for the Birkin was to drive, drive, drive.... I live in the Mojave Desert after all! I spoke too soon: http://www.usa7s.com/aspnetforum/upload/1470213596_DSCN3486.jpg I got rid of my snow shovel 25 years ago when I moved here from Ohio. Never though I would need it again
  17. I've got 225/45/15 Toyo T1R's on the back and they fit fine. I went with 195/50/15 T1R's on the front because the Toyo RA's that came on the car when I bought it (used) were 205's and they rubbed the fenders during cornering. It was only mild rubbing, and I probably could have played with spacers to get rid of it, but I'm happy with the 195's.
  18. I responded on CCC, but I'm 99% sure I could go on a President's Day tour. I'm interested in a day trip after Christmas too, but I've already got other plans for the weekend of Winter Solstice (before Xmas).
  19. The key to making my Ultrashield seat comfortable was to mount the seat in a semi-reclining position (tilted back). This takes some of your weight off your butt. Sort of like the difference between sitting in a church pew vs. a Lazy-Boy recliner. A side benefit is that your head is lower in the cockpit so you feel less wind turbulence.
  20. My best moment wasn't actually driving my Birkin, but instead was when I discovered this little filter was the cause of my intermittent power loss over the last two years: http://www.usa7s.net/ASPNETFORUM/upload/1387985393_DSCN3344.jpg It was attached to the fuel uptake tube inside my fuel tank, causing a major restriction to fuel flow. I had to cut a hole in the fuel tank to get the filter out. Many thanks to Damian, a Birkin owner in Australia, for alerting me to this problem. Now my Birkin runs even better than when new :hurray:

  22. My winter plans: Drive, drive, drive, change oil, drive, drive...... One of the advantages of living in S. California! Of course I have to plan my drives around the wild fires
  23. Today's blat reminded my of why I own a Seven and why I hope to own one till the day I die! Beautiful, crisp fall weather, nearly deserted mountain roads, and seven other Seven owners to enjoy the day. Unfortunately I forgot the camera so no pictures, maybe someone else will post some. I finally got to see the famous "Orange", and I have to ask, Al, what were you thinking Just kidding, I know you miss it, but it has a good home with Morgan!
  24. If I ever have my BRG Birkin repainted (and it needs it now), I'm going with the yellow used on newer Corvettes. Hopefully it would look as good on a Seven as on a Vette.
  25. An interesting collaborative effort you can help design the next Caterham: SplitWheel Looks like it has full Caterham backing and at a minimum, a prototype will be built!
