  1. Well it is time for the cold weather to start creeping in. I know some of the cars here have heaters some of us dont. I thought I would share what we did for warmth while in the mountain passes with 18 degree weather. We purchased Gerbing heated motorcycle jackets. They come with a plug that wires to the battery and you just plug in when you get in the car. We got a thermostat that we put in a pocket and turn up and down as needed. It really kept us warm even our legs stayed warm due to our core being warm. We did wear a insulated jacket that is wind proof over it for extreme cold but it was very comfortable. You have the option for heated gloves, pants and socks if want to go all out.
  2. slngsht Jerry Finks new Viking is suppose to be LS7 powered. He is supposed to have it at Run N Gun if the rumors are correct. He was talking about it last year at the event so I know it was in the works at the time. It has been said that it ran an autoX last month and was a brutal monster. Rumor mill is reporting 525 hp at the wheels his last car was 1700 with driver and this is suppose to be lighter. I must admit that is a tempting thought. I am tempted to do a locost LS2 even before my Ultralite purchase. I had even asked Brian if he could put a V8 in he said maybe but it doesnt need it. I agreed after I went for a ride:d But you know how you become use to the power after awhile. I think I could handle it now.:jester:

    scumbag

That would be a slam dunk law suit. Police have rules to follow too. Being a fireman we are trained constantly that we are the ones that liability lies with. The guy obviously is doing nothing wrong. It is your right to ask why your were stopped, then to follow that up with 12 min of badgering and threats is wrong. He is blaming the guy for attitude but the cop is the one with attitude. I bet the LEOS in NC would love to hire this guy.
  5. Gary forgot you had the ITB. I think that the roots type supercharger should fit but the TB would have to go. That would be a real shame I love the ITB, Just a thought. I really think once you drive an Ultralite it will have all the power you want. Hold off until Run N Gun and then make a decision. Your wife with have to get inline for all the wives that are unhappy with me. I surely couldnt make your wife any madder than I make 7evins wife. Its a good thing 7evin and I live so apart. We would probably both be divorced if lived in closed to each other.
  6. Gary there are several manufactures that make supercharger kits for the Ztec engine. Most will give 50% boost. http://www.supercharger.com/Shop/ViewProducts.aspx?PlateIndexID=33366 https://www.rpmoutlet.com/atimustangf.htm http://www.focussport.com/supercharger.htm http://www.powerworks.net/focusforce.html
  7. slngsht, if I sign in then any new response has a dark blue folder any old post with no new responses show up light blue. So dont break your back putting in a indicator. Maverick you should just need to sign in when visit the forum. This should let you know any new topics. Slngsht thank you so much for all you support on this site. I know it is alot of work to keep this thing running and it is greatly appreciated. I think that we should have a donation button where we can go to paypal account and deposit some money to help pay for the overhead. The expense grows proportionate to the membership. Hybrid Z had to do this a few years back and it was not a problem for most of the members. They just put up a thread saying that the funds are getting low and people will donate 5-10 bucks. I know I would certainly be up for that. What does everyone else think?
  8. My driveline loss seems a little high to me. It is supposed to be 240hp and dynoed 186 when it was NA.
  9. No I have the the ignition wired to a CB and it is activated when you turn on the battery switch. The starter is wired directly to the push button on the dash. Mine will crank over even without the battery switch on. Now if you want to add a little saftey to it where the clutch has to be engaged to crank that will be fine just more wiring to figure out.
  10. I will be there for the event. I just can wait, it is alot of fun.
  11. Are running this year or next? Like I stated before this is 1400 miles of racing which would be a good test for any car. Much different than 1Lap. How long is each stage? I assume you can have a support crew to carry parts and supplies from stage to stage on this event. I will have to call Mike Babcock, He and his dad have run that event before they can probably give some insight into what to prepare for. I would like to do a time distance rally in south Tx. It is the Big Bend open road race. It is a time distance rally for diffrent speed catagories 80 90 100 110 etc. You have to maintane that average speed over the 60 mile course. They have an electronic class and a manual calculation class as well. It is amazing that teams can run within .3 mph from the required average.
  12. If I did it I would probably do it just in the touring class. I was reading the requirements for the Targa class we would basicly have to build a new car. The cost to modify our car to compete would be cost prohibitive for us right now. We spent a big chunk of change, doing events this year and will need a big boost in sponsorship dollars to add that event to the schedule. Keith I couldn't find the entry fee listed anywhere on the website. How much is the entry? I went thru the site last night for about 2 hours reading on the classes and rules. Targa class rule book is 76 pages long. The transportation cost getting there is pretty significant as well. 7evin and I have no rally experience at all. We would have to arm wrestle to find which poor soul had to do navagate, while the other loose nut drives. The roll cage and such isnt a problem we are planning on swapping all the running gear to a new chassis before new years anyway. The new chassis will have an SCCA cage and few other minor changes. It looks like it would be a fun and challenging event. It is much shorter than one lap but it is 2200k but I suppose that 2200k is at racing speed which would be a good test for any car. Keith have you ever done that event before? If so what basic info could you share with us?
  13. great article for some reason I missed it in the 777 section.
  14. i think the Panoz and Donker are certainly LSIS. They are more comfortable versions but the look is close IMHO.
  15. Yeah we looked at that event maybe someday.
  16. Danny Pop is a driving machine. The man is just incredible. we wanted him to drive our car at the end of 1 Lap 06 to get his impressions butt couldnt track him down.
  17. Maverick my car would certainly benefit from R compound tires. Several reasons why I havent used them. 1 I am learning how to drive and sticky tires tend to save you butt when you drive badly. I have had several instructors tell me to stay with street tires until I can become consistent and smooth. 2nd reason is our main event is the 1 Lap of America we are restricted to 140 or greater wear tires so the more practice with the tires we have to use the better. It is difficult to go from R compounds back to street tread and not over cook things. 3rd is money I just never seem to have a spare 1k lying around that isnt needed worse else where. But thanks to my FANTASTIC SPONSOR HARMONY CONE :hurray: I will get a new set just in time for RunNGun.
  18. Maverick A new Ultralite runs 38k and the supercharger adds 5k to the tab. So 43k should get you there. I built mine from a kit and have a little over 30 in it now. I think my car is capable of 2.8 second 0-60, problem is getting traction. When companies do these test I dont think they are using street tires. As far as tires I have never run any R compound tires. I assume you want something DOT for street use as well. The RA1 have been around awhile and seems to be a popular choice. Perelli Corsa are good tire. Michelin pilot cup are supposed to be good too. Tire Rack has a tire testing section that usually is full of good info. You might check it out and see if sheds any light. I am sure the members here will have a few suggestions. I assume that the Atom is easy on tires like the 7s due to light weight. It takes awhile to wear them out so R tires last fairly long even on a road car. As far as lap timers my car has the AIM Mycron 3 digital dash. It has a built in lap timer which does really help when you are trying different lines on the track. This way you have instant feedback to see if what you doing is improving or worsening your times. It was really beneficial at RunNGun last year. I could try different breaking points and corner entry points and know if worked or not. All the people running had timers that recordered their lap times but they had to wait to find out the fastest lap was. Bad thing is they would know the lap times but no way of knowing which lap time went with a certain change. With track mapping you can go back and look at breaking points and see corner entry and exit speeds lateral G and so on. I have heard that the traqmate is good I know I see it in alot of cars at the track. I have heard it is easy to diagnose the data. The AIM unit I have is not very user friendly but is very accurate when you figure it out. It is not GPS based.
  19. EvilRomeo welcome aboard no matter what your age is. We could use some young blood to keep the 7 spirit alive and growing. I always thought the VR6 engine would be a good choice for a 7. It is narrow and makes very good power and torque. It would just have to be converted to RWD. I also like the GTI 2.0 turbo motor it is a smooth as silk motor that makes some very good power and gobs of torque. The Donkervort use that motor in thier car.
  20. Maverick I did some research on the Caterham models and the listd specs compared to mine. Caterham CSR 260 Ultralite S2k Supercharged Ultralite XR7 (new Model) Wheel base 91.14 88 88 front track 59.25 59.5 59.5 rear track 57.67 61 61 length 129.9 124 124 width 66.3 68 68 Ground clearance 4 4 2.5 turning radius 36' 26' 26' weight 1267 1380 1047 hp 260 340 240 hp per lb 4.8 4.17 4.3 brakes ? 12" all 4 12" front 10' (inboard) wheels 15" 17" 17" suspension front inboard shock conventional inboard rear independent independent independent So on paper they are pretty close. The major difference is the power difference on the supercharged car. Now I have never driven a Caterham but I am sure they are a fine driving machine. I would suspect it is a bit more of a refined drive over the Ultralite. I think this is mostly due to Ultralite uses rod ends on all the suspension where most of the other cars uses a bushing of some sort on the A arms and suspension pieces. Plus they have been building them for 48 years compared to the Ultralites 6years.
  21. I knew there were a few variations being built but I wasnt sure which one he was using.
  22. Dang Maverick that is an awsome RT for your first time at the drag strip. Someone must have given you a few tips before hand. The 60' time is good for street tires too. That looks like a good job of driving to get it hooked up and not overpower the wheels to badly. I bet if you put some drag radials on there you could get in the 1.60s and down to 11.40 or lower range.
  23. I have been following the build logs at Dpcars for a couple of years. That set up should be very interesting combination. That will be a hot set up for those with a little deeper pockets. I think that engine runs in the 20k range not to mention the transmission, headers etc. He is planning on installing that in his little awd track car. I dont know how he walks with balls that big. Doesnt his track car weigh about 800 lbs with 375 hp. I know there a few 7s in UK running that engine. The USA7s tour of 06 had one join them, he still had some tuning issues but the potential is awesome. The Capriata uses the same engine as well. Hopefully as the production ramps up on those the price will creep down.
  24. Man that looks like alot of fun. Those were some fantasitc roads cant wait for the DVD. What camera were you using to shoot the video?
  25. You make a good point about that open chassis, it catches alot of air and would probably accounts for the slower trap speed. Maverick do you know what your 60' times were on your best run? Keith you should drive it now. If you thought it was good before it awesome now. The extra 100hp is all in the 5500-9000 range right where Vtec kicks in. Its kinda like using Nitrous when it hits.
