  1. I would suppose that the location that the shocks are mounted would have alot to do with the spring rate. If the leverage arm is shorter a lighter spring would act stiffer than the stiff spring with a little more leverage applied. The mounting point on the control arm and the angle of the shock would effect spring rate too. JBH you are also running a sway bar. The Ultralites do not. That is why I had asked if he used a sway bar. If you are running a sway bar a lighter spring could be used depending on the size of the sway bar. I was simply suggesting that if slgsht hadnt tried it, to give a look. If you run out of shock adjusment then you can start to adjust spring rates instead of replacing or revalving shocks which is more expensive way to do it. Springs are realatively cheap . It sounded like slgsht had used up the shock adjustment just trying to give him somewhere else to look. What do I know Im probably all wrong.
  2. I just gave my experience. The battery wasnt that great and the company hasnt been very eager to solve the problem. Its your 180.00 dollars to do with what you want. Maybe they give flyin Miata more support due to the name than the regular Joe.
  3. Got my new wheels in the other day. Thought I would post a pic. They are Team Dynamics wheels 17x8 and 17x9. They are available in alot of sizes, bolt pattern and offsets. They are made in the UK and quality is really good. The 17x8 weighs 16.25 pounds on my shipping scale, 17x9 weights 18.2 lbs. They are gloss black and should look really good on the new car. Price is resonable as well. less than 900.00 for a set of 4. They took about 5weeks to come in but worth the wait in IMHO. Pics really dont do them justice they are really sweet. http://www.usa7s.com/aspnetforum/upload/657486707_DSC01925.JPG
  4. I run 600s in the front and my car is a little lighter than yours. I think you could stand a bit more up front. Are you using sway bars?
  5. Maybe a little stiffer front springs will also help reduce the weight transfer from back to front. Helping keep the rear planted if you run out of shock adjustment.
  6. Sweeeeeeet I love the color combo. Very nice ride. Hey you fellow 7evners in Ga dont forget that 7evin lives right outside of GA. He will want to come play when you hit the tracks or local AutoX.
  7. Goldie was the first Ultralite to run in the 1 Lap 05. It was piloted by a father/son team of Mike and Norm Babcock aka team Iron Butt. Norm turned 76 the year they ran Goldie. Now that is one tough old bird. Goldie was originally disigned as a track only car and was never intended to have a passanger seat. The passenger side is straight doesnt have the normal cut out for your arm. So it was tougher than normal. Not to mention they had a 7k miles route that year if I remember correctly which is pure torture. My hat was off to those guys. They did pretty well considering they borrowed the car for the event and only had 1 day at the track 2 months before to get familiar with it before tackeling the 1 Lap. I am not sure had they sit for so long with nads that big. They are some really nice guys which normally pilot and Audi S4 that is fully raced prepped. They also ride the Iron Butt rally which is 12k miles in 12 days on motorcycles. :flag:
  8. So sorry to hear about your sons illness. I had mine taken out at 6 dont remember much about it. I do remember eating all the ice cream I could hold down. My wife still has hers but they give her trouble all the time. We will wish him a quick recovery and add him to our prayers. Loren
  9. Obi wan that is a very nice looking car. Welcome to the board. Your english is way better than my french. All I know is one phrase and its not appropriate for this forum . I love the color.
  10. Gary Slutz lives on Ohio and has a Birkin that he is considering selling. It has a very nice build quality along with Ztech with individual throttle bodies. He is in Colorado for a little bit but I am sure he will chim in here soon he partcipates often on board.
  11. I have the Braille and havent had that good of luck with it. I got a size bigger than what they were recommending and It has barely cranked the car from the very start and if you leave the fan running for more than 2 min you are not likely to get it started. I emailed them multiple times about the problem but they have made no effort to fix the problem. I will take the 6lb penalty for the PC680 and have some reserve power.
  12. Great video Dennis. You use a few lines that are a little different than mine. Since you were the fastest on the roval I am going to give your line a try next year. It was great fun tainted with a big dose of disappointment for me but I will be back next year. Loren
  13. I have a pile of pics to go thru but will post them a little later. You will notice that my name is absent from the results. Unfortunaltely on Wen. test and tune we had a rod start knocking causing me to withdraw from the event:cry:  . I think we might have experienced some pre-detonation that damaged some plugs but not sure if it caused the rod problem. But we still had a great time hanging out with all the folks and watching the cars in action. We will be there next year ready to run. Loren
  14. Gary Slutz is a Ohio resident with a very nice Birkin. He is on his way to Colorado right now but he will check in I am sure to the site. I cant remember exactly where he is located in OH. Run and Gun is happening right now in St Louis but is over by noon tommorrow. There were 4 makes here for viewing and rides. It would have been a great place to ask questions and watch the 7s in action. Jerry E has most of the results written down and I am sure will have it posted shortly.
  15. I think we got Chucks gremlin solved. He was booking in the last session today. About the only thing faster was a mongoose GTP car and a 1000hp Ultima. Dennis Bruton is flying in his stalker as are few others. They didnt have the last group times up yet so we will have to see what the official times is. But blue II was looking real good this afternoon. Loren
  16. Can you find out the mileage of the eng/tranny combo. When you say built turbo motor what has been done to it, and who did it? Me or Peps would be interested in them.
  17. Heck of a deal if it goes for anything under 15k
  18. I bet Keith will have some ideas for ya. I think they were having problems figuring out the factory ecu wiring so they must have installed the SDS.
  19. Brian assembled the car but the owner had the fuel injection done else where. But I agree that car is finished well. I use bike mirrors on mine as well. They are a little on the small side but they work. I like the ones Jerry used on his. They look much more functional than mine.
  20. I would consider 1 degree camber. I run the same thing. The radial will run from .5 and up. If you run a bias ply tire like the Hoosier 25-75 series they prefere a 0-.2 degree. from the research I have done plus all the racers I have talked to have told me this along with several companies that sell just race tires of many brands.
  21. I really think you should give these a look. http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tests/TireTestServlet?tireMake=BFGoodrich&tireModel=g-Force+R1&tirePageLocQty= They are available in alot of sizes. http://www.tirerack.com/tires/Sizes.jsp?make=BFGoodrich&model=g-Force+R1 http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?tireMake=BFGoodrich&tireModel=g-Force+R1
  22. Gary I am staying at a holiday inn express about 5 miles from the track. I was a reasonable price and had a good rating. I will forward the info to you when I find it again. It is on my other computer at work.
  23. true slicks are great but keep in mind that they come in radial and bias ply. Bias ply tires like to be run with little to no camber but a radial will be good with camber. Hoosier R6 and A6 are radials and have been king of the hill for a good while but the BFGoodrich R1 won the Grassroots motorsports shootout and Tire Rack evaluation. Both said it turned faster lap times than the Hoosier and appeared to wear slower. I just bought the BF Goodrich I will let you know how they perform after R&G, they just came in today. I was also told by a tire engineer that was running in 1 lap that most companies are now focusing radial tire development instead of bias ply becuase the potential for better performance existed with the radial.
  24. Gary the whole car is much thinner than an S2k about 4" so the top of the motor protrudes thru the hood. Remember that these were intended for track use. This car is meant to give greater visibility and reduce as much weight and drag as possible.
