A message from Dale: Anyone coming to the Oklahoma get together and arriving after 5pm, please call the Fin and Feather office before then and tell them you will be arriving later. (918) 487-5148 They will give your cabin/room keys to their security person. When you arrive, pull under canopy with your lights on and wait for the security person to meet you. They will sign you in and give you keys. For those bring their cars on a trailer, South of the registration building is an open parking lot (dirt/gravel). We can leave trailers and tow vehicles there. Be safe in traveling. If there is any more updates I will try and get them out a couple days before the event. Dale

Here is the initial itinerary for the 6th annual Midwest Se7ens Gathering in Gove, Oklahoma. If you are interested or are going please respond to the email listed below, Russ Thursday: Meet at Fin and Feather, short blat, then back for dinner and settling in. Friday: Breakfast, out for a blat until lunch, second blat back to Fin and Feather for dinner. Socialize. Saturday: Same as Friday! Sunday: For those who can stay Blat about. I assume you have driven the road that follows the coast to Klinemond (sp?)? That is a great road. We landed there several years ago to visit my sister in-law's parents in Klinemond They met us at the airport and we rented a car to follow them to their house down that road. Her dad was over 80yrs old and I had a hard time keeping up with him on that road. He is one crazy driver!!!!!! Welcome to the group, Russ

The W196 story is pretty much as suspected; here are a few more details to add. It was in fact loaned to the Donington museum in 1956 (or National Motor Museum, Beaulieu) by M-B during the time I mentioned. After a few years, the loan was formally converted to a donation. (Other museums have been given racing MBs. Henry Ford, IMS, etc.) Some time thereafter the W196 was sold for something in excess of £1 million that was used to build the library at the museum. It changed hands again in 1990 for a reputed £13m, and ran in the Monaco Historics in 2000 with Willie Green. It passed through one or two collector’s/dealer’s hands before ending up in its present ownership (a Qatari Prince?) in the 90′s. Bonhams has a rather fluffy press release about it being ‘forgotten’, which is most surely not the case. People love to hype these days ... Bonhams is NOT Christies! This is not a barn find. It’s just an important, historic M-B racer that has been seldom seen for twenty years or so. (OK .... what is uncommon about the brakes ... for the day?) ----------------------------- Russ
