WOW, what a great four days it has been. The seventh annual Midwest Se7ens Gathering is history now and it made history, too. This was the largest gathering we have ever had with thirteen 7’s showing up. The cars that were there were five Locosts, four Stalkers, one Caterham, one Westfield, one RM8, and one CMC 15. Rounding out the cars showing up were one Corvette, one very rare hard top Lotus Élan with RHD, one 1969 Jaguar XKE, one Lotus Esprit, and a Subaru BRZ. What a mix!!! It was even an international event with Chris Boettcher from Canada bringing his brand new Miata powered Locost down for its shake down. It never missed a beat. Great build, Chris. Our host hotel was the Wagon Wheel Motel, which is a restored Route 66 Roadhouse. Thursday afternoon’s blat had to be cut short because of lack of time, but we were able to squeeze in a very informative wine tour at the St. James Winery and then had a nice meal at a fancy restaurant called Sybill’s in St. James, MO. Friday we went on our northern route thru Linn, Frankenstein, and Hermann, MO. In Hermann we ate at the Wurst Haus which had wonderful German sausages. From there we let everyone go there own way back to the motel where the local newspaper came by for a photo shoot and interviews with a few of our participants. That evening we had dinner at one of Cuba’s newest restaurants, Fat Jacks, which is a steak house. Saturday started out rather dicey. The weather gods were not cooperating with us. There was a big storm front bearing down on us right at our start time of 9am, so we delayed the start until 10am. The storm did not actually arrive until 10am, but by 10:30 it was moving out, so we decided to start on our southern route. We drove to Salem, MO and had lunch at the Horseshoe Saloon. From there we went on to finish our best day of driving yet. High speed sweepers, up and down hills and valleys, and very little traffic. It did not rain on us until the last 30 miles. Then it decided to let us have it, but we slogged on to finish a great day of driving. While we were driving our southern route, one of the towns we went through on Friday’s northern route was hit by a tornado. We lucked out there. We had a great dinner at Missouri Hick BBQ. On Sunday, everyone said their goodbyes and started looking forward to repeating this all over again next year at a location to be announced very soon. The event was not without its mechanical problems. Cliff Flath fried an alternator, which in turn took out a fan belt and idler pulley; Bob Henson broke a bolt holding his cylinder head on; Julian had a vacuum hose come off; and Wendel broke an alternator cable. Luckily there was nothing major. So to Chris Reinke who helped set this event up and all the people who came we say “Thank You” from the bottom of our hearts, Russ and Jane PS: Pictures are coming soon.

Four days to go folks. A revised schedule has been sent out to all that I have emails for so if you did not get it please contact me. See ya all there, Russ

For what it's worth, I have some parts that may be useful for a Locost build if anyone knows of anyone interested. After buying the Super 7, I probably won't follow thru with building my own thing. I have a complete new Westfield SE body and some other parts to go with it like a gas tank, dash, some suspension bits, coil overs, etc. It has a very nice finish on it all in a BRG gel coat and will make a very good looking car. I'm pretty sure the standard book chassis would fit it. If anyone would like to discuss they can send me an email or call my cell 417-861-0400. I'm in Springfield, MO, so not too far from Cuba. Well just three weeks to go till the big event. A few more people have signed up so it sounds like it just may be our biggest event yet in the Midwest. Over 16 cars are signed up from seven states and two countries. Alright you East and West coasters top that!!!!!! Haha. I am looking forward to seeing old friends and meeting a lot new ones. Russ

OK, we are one month from the 7th Annual Midwest Se7ens Gathering. Fifteen cars have signed up and 34 people have said they are coming. We have four Stalkers, five Locosts, one Caterham, one RM-8, one Ultralite, oneCMC-15, and one Lotus Elan. It is still not too late to sign up. The more the merrier I always say. That area of Missouri won’t know what hit it when we come rumbling through. If you are coming and have not filled out the questionnaire from my previous post please do so and send it to trialsman at kc dot rr dot com. Everyone that I have on my list will be emailed our trip itinerary. So if I don’t have your email info you won’t know where we will be on what day. Russ

Chris has finalized the design for the tee shirts(see the post above). The company that is printing the shirts must have the order in by May 8th in order to have them for us at the event. Price is set at $13 for S-XL, +$1.75 for XXL and +$2.50 for XXXL. For those not coming that want shirts he can figure shipping at that time based on quantities(contact Chris for costs). Shirts can be paid for at the event or through paypal. Chris prefers paypal so that he doesn’t have to front all the money. His Paypal account is FieroReinke@aol.com.

Thursday and Sunday events have not been worked out yet!!!!!!!! Got the routes finalized. Now these miles are Google miles and the times are Google times. They do not include gas stops, breakdowns, eating, wineries, getting lost or any other crap like that. These roads are not your 60 MPH roads. More like 30-40 MPH average. Friday is the northern route 219 miles 5 hr 40min with lunch 2 hr 32 min after start at the Rivers Edge Restaurant in Fredrickburg. I figure we will be there at about 12:30-1pm. Saturday is the southern route at 206 miles and 4hr 49 min with lunch 2 hr 55 min after the start at the Horseshoe Salon in Salem. We should be there about 12:30-1pm again. Start times will be 9am both days These are going to be hard driving days. The routes allow several places for people to bail out and go back to the motels if they have to. More details to follow. Russ
