  8. Well I am finally rested from the Midwest Se7en Gathering at the Brits in the Ozarks Car Show in Fayetteville, Ark. It was a lot of fun I tell you. On Friday I went out on one of their self guided tours that they had all mapped out for participants to go on. There are more twisties down there than a bread factory. On one stretch I went for twenty miles and could not see more than about 100 yards of road in front of me at any one time. About half way through my morning blat I saw a sign for an old grist mill just off the road a bit so I thought I would take a break and drive down to it. When I got to the parking lot there was hardly any parking places left. It was full of Ferraris, Lamborghinis, and other exotics. These were not kit cars but the REAL things. It seems that the Kansas City Ferrari Club was down there on an Ozark tour. I counted over 30 cars and most of them were worth well over $175,000 each. I pulled in the parking lot and all eyes were on my car. When I stopped several of the drivers came over to scope out my Locost and ask me questions. All I wanted to do was go over and look at their cars. It was a very fun time. I have never seen more than 1 or 2 of these types of cars in one spot before. And to see 30+, I was like a kid in a candy shop. When I got back to the hotel later that afternoon I had to wash a lot of Arkansas’ finest bugs off the front of my car. Got to look good for the reception that evening, you know. Thank goodness I have a windshield. On Saturday they had over 160 cars in the show. Mine was the only Locost but there was a super clean Lotus 7 racer in my class (Race/modified) along with several other cars. I did not win anything this year but that is not the reason I went. I went to talk up the Locost concept and to meet with several people who post on this site including Dr. Hess, Ed Young, Julian D, and about 7 or 8 others who’s names I can’t remember (Getting old sucks). I handed out over 40 fliers describing the Locost ideals and listing out the most popular websites, manufactures, and what books to buy to do a build. Hopefully we will see some new names pop up soon. Time to get some more rest, Russ

  15. Well here is the report on the Kansas City All British Car Show that was held this weekend. 180 cars total. Most were extremely well done. All kinds of cars from per war MG’s to modern Jag’s and Lotus’. There was even a British made Dutton 7 there. The only one I have ever seen in person. I had two Locosters show up from the list, One from the middle of Kansas and one who drove all the way from Chicago just to see my car (now that’s impressive). I talked to several people who would like to build someday so I gave them a sheet of paper with the web sites and book names on it for them to investigate. I even had one couple that the wife WANTED her husband to build a Locost. Man that is 90% of the hurdle, right there. Lotus class (my class) had 4 cars in it. A beautiful $60k Elise, a neat Europa that had a cool zetec conversion in it (including 2000 driving miles worth of bugs from going to LOG in Colorado), an extremely clean white (and fast) Turbo Esprit, and my lowly Locost Se7en. Damn it was hot and sunny out on that grass all day Sunday. Oh yeah, back to the results. The Europa got 3rd, the Esprit got 2nd, and....................................................................................... I got FIRST!!!!!! I think all the old British cars felt some kinship with my car. This is the most competition that I have had to go against and to beat out all those REAL Lotus’, I am humbled. Still thinking about a time for The Midwest Se7ens Gathering in 2008. Labor Day was nice but HOT!!!!! Maybe early June might be better. Any Ideas??? Russ

  23. There are a couple of events coming up here in the Midwest. They are the Kansas City All British Car Show on Sep 1st and 2nd and the Brits in the Ozarks Show in Fayetteville, Ark. on Sep 14th and 15th. My British made Locost will be on display at both of these shows along with hopefully some other Midwest Se7ens. Please drop by and say hi, or better yet, bring your Se7en and display it alongside mine, finished or not. I will be happy to talk to all who want to listen about all the joys (and troubles) of owning these cars. I plan on using these shows as a dry run for the “2008 Midwest Se7en Gathering” some time next summer. Drop me a line if you are planning to come and I’ll keep an eye out for you. The web sites for these events are: http://kcallbritish.tripod.com and http://www.britishironnwa.org/show07.html . SEE YOU THERE! Russ Amos
