  1. Loved this writeup and your photos! Spa looks amazing, and what better way to see the sights?
  2. "All of it", or "How much do you weigh?" :jester:
  3. Definitely true. I did a little more googling and found that the ZZR/ZZS have increased in weight over the CR500s to which point it may be very close (unfortunately!). But the Toyos are a bit portly at a quoted 19 or 20lbs depending on size. I just realized there is also a 225/45R13 model available, which might be a better fit in the rear for me. I'd like to preserve the handling balance, so I don't want to stagger the front and rear tire width too much. Source for the ZZS weight comes from here: https://www.lotus7.club/forum/techtalk/tyre-weight#comment-2193998 17lbs for a ZZS vs 19 or 20 for the Toyo.
  4. Apologies, I opened a bunch of tire threads to read from Search and didn't realize this reply was on a post in the Parts For Sale forum and not the tech forum. Well, hopefully people will see it here from the Activity Stream!
  5. To bump an old thread, because my question is in-line with some of the information in here already: I'm trying to decide on new tires for my Caterham (Zetec, 200hp?), which came with 13x6 front, 13x8 rear wheels, shod with Kumho V700 215/50-13 front and 235/45-13 rear. Now, whether or not that's too much tire for the car is not my question here... These tires are old and I'd like to replace them (I think they were the "as-new" tires on the car when the build was completed in 2002). Now, the way I see it I've got two easy options: 1) Avon ZZR or ZZS in the Caterham OEM spec sizes of 185/55-13 and 215/55-13 2) Toyo R888 or R888R in 185/60-13 and 205/60-13 Now, the Toyos are cheaper and can be mail-ordered, and are apparently very good tires. While the Avons (ZZS, anyhow) are probably better in the wet (relevant, although I'll usually only be drive in good weather), and may come up to temperature faster (relevant, since I drive on the street). The car will be used primarily for street driving. Autocrossing or track in the future? It's possible, but it's not my primary concern. One more data point: It seems that the Avons will be about $864 for a set from a local distributor. The Toyos could be landed for about $557. That's a big difference, but since they'll probably be on my car for quite some time*, I'm interested to hear whether it would be worth it to spring for the Avons. I'd welcome anybody's opinions on these two tires, or maybe another option I've missed**. Thanks in advance! *although probably not as long as the Kumhos have been on it, prior to my ownership! **I used to run 15" wheels on my AE86, the selection is downright bountiful in comparison to 13"!
  6. My house came with RaceDeck (how could I not go for this one after seeing that?). But I'm thinking they installed it immediately before selling it, because it was pristine. Nowadays? Not so much. What do you use to clean it? (PS: My review of RaceDeck, besides "gets filthy easily" is that it's pretty good! But if I had the time and the empty garage to do polished concrete or epoxy, I might consider that too...)
  7. It's been a lifelong goal of mine to purchase a car with a fat sack of cash money (preferably with dollar signs written on it), or with a Zero Haliburton case filled with 100 dollar bills. Sadly, most dealerships frown on this (and maybe private sellers as well). In the case of my recent 7 purchase, I did a wire transfer. Probably no protection for the buyer in this case, but I trusted the seller (and he surely appreciated getting the funds immediately). I had previously thought cashier's checks were generally to be trusted but after reading the story here, wow...
  8. Hey now, a lift would have REALLY helped if I had one when my Previa blew a head gasket!
  9. Hi all! I just picked up a 2001 Caterham (S3, Zetec, as seen on BaT) a month ago and brought it back up to the SF Bay Area where it was originally assembled. Thanks to all the members here who chimed in with useful information in the BaT auction (Croc, KitKat7, Super7Driver, and probably more). The car has been great so far, and I'm hoping for many enjoyable years and miles to come!
