  1. Just curious how loud your car is..... are those just straight pipes?
  2. This didn't just happen... we've had this materialistic "buy now, pay later" attitude for a couple decades now. Wall St & Main St both wanting the consumer to purchase our way out of fiscal problems. Add cutting taxes as the "be-all answer" both when the economy is good or when it turns bad.... never having the government invest during the good times in infra-structure etc... It all was a self-serving croc. All I know is it's not as simple as pundits, and general folk like to make it. To think we can get out of it in a year and not suffer pain, whether it's inflation or higher taxes is unrealistic. It's going to be a rough road ahead as some things will work and other things don't... we're going to have to take our lumps as we go forward. Which gives pessimists plenty to work with. All you can do is get out of debt and invest in things that will do well in inflationary times (my "general folk" recommendation).
  3. Got to admit I saw some reruns in the 80s and it was too strange for me as well.
  4. Pretty good, should make for a quick car considering how light the car probably is. It looks like you reached peak before 10,000rpm anyway so it shouldn't really matter seeing the last 1000rpm.
  5. Not me either.... but I do find them funny.
  6. No, that's not me... but
  7. Isn't Caterham kind of a more expensive fake Lotus? Let the flaming begin;) First I piss off Miata drivers... now Cat owners... what am I thinking
  8. I understand they make parachutes for small planes now, wonder how well that works..... glad you were able to find a spot to land and you can laugh about it now.
  9. I drive a fake Lotus 7;)
  10. Dang, it's already been a year... like the wheels too. Well, I'm still working out some bugs believe it or not. Thus, I haven't contacted you about Buttonwillow. Haven't forgotten... once I can trust the car any distance I'll give you a call and we can meet up somewhere. Not too many of us in central valley.
  11. Went to New York last month for my brothers wedding. In relation to that last clip showing the airplane landing in the river, his wedding was in the building/pier on the right. It has full length glass windows facing the river and we were told it was quite a show for those using the place at the time the plane came down.

    Wtf

LOL... true. But we don't commute in them nor are we distracted with entertainment systems, cup holders, crying babies (not counting scared passengers) etc... It's hard not to be aware of your surroundings in a 7. And perhaps I'm one of those in the gene pool I was talking about;)

    Wtf

As a retired firefighter, I have to agree with WestTexas. Sorry, but there's a lot of stupid people out there and we often deal with them. Sometimes wonder if we're hurting our gene pool by protecting them though. I'm not a fan of big brother black boxes in new cars.... a lot of us would likely get our insurance cancelled if they could see how we drive;)
  14. Nice set up.... wish I would of seen that a couple months ago. I put one of these in the tank. Hope it works http://www.racerpartswholesale.com/category/Fuel_Safe_Surge_Tank_Collector
  15. Earplugs make the biggest difference for me.... seems to calm things down. I was going to put on a couple sun visors like cobras have but my car has that wide angle mirror that clips to the top of the windshield. Just be glad you don't have a machine polished metal dash like mine... when the sun is behind and hits this baby I almost get a sunburn!
  16. The car came with that fuel tank set up. I drove the car all of 10 minutes the first time the hose came off.. thought it was a fluke. Actually I'm surprised the air/fuel mixture was correct enough to flash inside the tank (the wires that touched were actually at the top of the tank). I'm sure there's pros and cons about having a fuel pump in the tank or outside. There's not a lot of room for things in these cars, but while a little exposed, I like the ability to see if something is wrong; check/clean the fuel filters and reach the fuel pump without having my hands in a tank of gas. There's not a lot of room to work inside the tank, even with this bigger access hole. I like Loren's solution to keep the fuel pump from sloshing around too. And yes, I will have a fire extinguisher mounted before my next blat.
  17. Currently going around the email world... http://www.coolthings.com/tom-wrights-street-legal-bumper-cars/
  18. Well I've been having problems with the fuel hose between the internal fuel pump and the plumbing coming out of the tank coming loose (and leaving me stranded 3 times). After the 2nd time, I had installed a new sump to help keep fuel near the pump along with a bigger access hole to get into the tank. I think the pump moving around works the hose loose. I have foam in there to minimize this. Well this time (last Wednesday), again in the middle of nowhere, the hose came off. I was now able to have better access to the loose hose and reconnected it myself. Apparently while doing this, I got the two wires to the fuel pump to touch somehow.... as I had my arm inside the tank to make sure the connection was tight, I had my friend (who was following on his motorcycle) turn on the battery switch... all of the sudden POOF! A nice size fireball shoots out the access whole, past my arm, and now there's fire coming out the tank. Me, a retired fireman, without an extinguisher! Luckily it went out when I put the access lid back on (though it was a bit hot holding it there). I now have one arm with no hair on it from the elbow down;) And today, a fuel pump and fuel filters are mounted outside the tank. Hopefully, the fuel hose, dangling by itself, shouldn't come loose (plus there's 2 hose clamps on it now). I've had a few little teething problems, but this gas tank issue has been my only serious problem with the car so far... the honda drivetrain has been perfect... when it has fuel;)
  19. Don't know if this has been around yet http://www.autoblog.com/2009/10/24/video-onstar-calls-hennessey-after-tuned-cts-v-pulls-99-g/
  20. Those details (motor & tires) do make a difference... plus knowing the road. I thought I was doing good scaring riders in my car (while staying under full control). Maybe it just looks faster on camera, but I'm feeling more and more out of my league watching this stuff, Mopho, are you comfortable taking those curves at the same speed in your 7? Looking at the clip again, it wasn't really the corner speed (watching with the sound down helped) but the excelleration down the straights that made it look so fast. Don't get me wrong, I couldn't keep up. Maybe I'm more of an autox guy at heart
  21. Way braver than me, but he did seem in control... never lost traction etc... you could sure hear that supercharger wind up quick!
  22. I started my sportscar lineage with a Lotus Europa (Renault motor). Loved the handling but not the motor or the fact that I was literally only protected by 1/4in of fiberglass. Then got a restored TR6; best sounding car ever (when carbs were synched), should of never sold it. But is was a semi-daily driver and showing up places soaked in sweat due to no A/C was an issue. Several dirt bikes & a sportbike later, I think the S2K will be around for quite a while. As far as the disease.... I think the car has most the little bugs worked out but I have a daughter going to college next year so the supercharger is on hold:(
  23. That was my point Spaz... with those other old cars there's no excuse not to have a 7
  24. I would say that it's an updated movie... but when you see the other cars there's really no excuse to not have a 7 in there (except for the sponsorship money I guess).
  25. Had local fab/speed shop make it up for me (I have no metal working skill).. He had someone bend 3 pieces of sheetmetal (it's kind of thick & heavy actually). I think the bends were 5 inch, 6inch diameters & the middle piece that went from one to the other. He welded it up and ground it smooth... along with the cutouts & tabbed on some nut-like things to the exhaust so it could bolt up in 3 places. The rear of the muffler also has a bracket that mounts to the chassis so the whole system is not just hanging there (mine rattled at the header tube/collector section). I bought some really expensive heat shield material that is between the actual muffler section and the shield... seems to work. It was more work than what it looks like. We don't have a ceramic coating place in town (I was going to match the exhaust) and just painted it gloss black. I might send it off to Fresno if it chips up badly from rocks or paint burns off where it's bolted up.
