LOL... true. But we don't commute in them nor are we distracted with entertainment systems, cup holders, crying babies (not counting scared passengers) etc... It's hard not to be aware of your surroundings in a 7. And perhaps I'm one of those in the gene pool I was talking about;)

As a retired firefighter, I have to agree with WestTexas. Sorry, but there's a lot of stupid people out there and we often deal with them. Sometimes wonder if we're hurting our gene pool by protecting them though. I'm not a fan of big brother black boxes in new cars.... a lot of us would likely get our insurance cancelled if they could see how we drive;)

Nice set up.... wish I would of seen that a couple months ago. I put one of these in the tank. Hope it works http://www.racerpartswholesale.com/category/Fuel_Safe_Surge_Tank_Collector

Earplugs make the biggest difference for me.... seems to calm things down. I was going to put on a couple sun visors like cobras have but my car has that wide angle mirror that clips to the top of the windshield. Just be glad you don't have a machine polished metal dash like mine... when the sun is behind and hits this baby I almost get a sunburn!

The car came with that fuel tank set up. I drove the car all of 10 minutes the first time the hose came off.. thought it was a fluke. Actually I'm surprised the air/fuel mixture was correct enough to flash inside the tank (the wires that touched were actually at the top of the tank). I'm sure there's pros and cons about having a fuel pump in the tank or outside. There's not a lot of room for things in these cars, but while a little exposed, I like the ability to see if something is wrong; check/clean the fuel filters and reach the fuel pump without having my hands in a tank of gas. There's not a lot of room to work inside the tank, even with this bigger access hole. I like Loren's solution to keep the fuel pump from sloshing around too. And yes, I will have a fire extinguisher mounted before my next blat.

Well I've been having problems with the fuel hose between the internal fuel pump and the plumbing coming out of the tank coming loose (and leaving me stranded 3 times). After the 2nd time, I had installed a new sump to help keep fuel near the pump along with a bigger access hole to get into the tank. I think the pump moving around works the hose loose. I have foam in there to minimize this. Well this time (last Wednesday), again in the middle of nowhere, the hose came off. I was now able to have better access to the loose hose and reconnected it myself. Apparently while doing this, I got the two wires to the fuel pump to touch somehow.... as I had my arm inside the tank to make sure the connection was tight, I had my friend (who was following on his motorcycle) turn on the battery switch... all of the sudden POOF! A nice size fireball shoots out the access whole, past my arm, and now there's fire coming out the tank. Me, a retired fireman, without an extinguisher! Luckily it went out when I put the access lid back on (though it was a bit hot holding it there). I now have one arm with no hair on it from the elbow down;) And today, a fuel pump and fuel filters are mounted outside the tank. Hopefully, the fuel hose, dangling by itself, shouldn't come loose (plus there's 2 hose clamps on it now). I've had a few little teething problems, but this gas tank issue has been my only serious problem with the car so far... the honda drivetrain has been perfect... when it has fuel;)

Don't know if this has been around yet http://www.autoblog.com/2009/10/24/video-onstar-calls-hennessey-after-tuned-cts-v-pulls-99-g/

Those details (motor & tires) do make a difference... plus knowing the road. I thought I was doing good scaring riders in my car (while staying under full control). Maybe it just looks faster on camera, but I'm feeling more and more out of my league watching this stuff, Mopho, are you comfortable taking those curves at the same speed in your 7? Looking at the clip again, it wasn't really the corner speed (watching with the sound down helped) but the excelleration down the straights that made it look so fast. Don't get me wrong, I couldn't keep up. Maybe I'm more of an autox guy at heart

Way braver than me, but he did seem in control... never lost traction etc... you could sure hear that supercharger wind up quick!

I started my sportscar lineage with a Lotus Europa (Renault motor). Loved the handling but not the motor or the fact that I was literally only protected by 1/4in of fiberglass. Then got a restored TR6; best sounding car ever (when carbs were synched), should of never sold it. But is was a semi-daily driver and showing up places soaked in sweat due to no A/C was an issue. Several dirt bikes & a sportbike later, I think the S2K will be around for quite a while. As far as the disease.... I think the car has most the little bugs worked out but I have a daughter going to college next year so the supercharger is on hold:(

That was my point Spaz... with those other old cars there's no excuse not to have a 7
-
I would say that it's an updated movie... but when you see the other cars there's really no excuse to not have a 7 in there (except for the sponsorship money I guess).

Had local fab/speed shop make it up for me (I have no metal working skill).. He had someone bend 3 pieces of sheetmetal (it's kind of thick & heavy actually). I think the bends were 5 inch, 6inch diameters & the middle piece that went from one to the other. He welded it up and ground it smooth... along with the cutouts & tabbed on some nut-like things to the exhaust so it could bolt up in 3 places. The rear of the muffler also has a bracket that mounts to the chassis so the whole system is not just hanging there (mine rattled at the header tube/collector section). I bought some really expensive heat shield material that is between the actual muffler section and the shield... seems to work. It was more work than what it looks like. We don't have a ceramic coating place in town (I was going to match the exhaust) and just painted it gloss black. I might send it off to Fresno if it chips up badly from rocks or paint burns off where it's bolted up.
-
I think it came out pretty good. It has some super heat reflective material around the muffler section (not that stuff in the seat) and the rest of the shield has enough air space so that it doesn't get hot.

Sure hope our Birkin friend there doesn't get caught "enjoying" his car too much. http://www.stuff.co.nz/the-press/news/2987090/Car-crushing-boy-racer-law-passed

Yeah, we waited about an hour just to get off the freeway exit.... the sad thing was as we got close I could see that someone could of stayed in the moving left lane, went past the exit, gone about a mile to the next one and there was no line coming from the other direction:( You might want to remember that next time... I won't be back for a while after this experience.

Went to the Air Force Base's show Saturday. Good show but the traffic in and out was horrendous! That F22 is absolutely awesome in it's ability... don't know how practical in warfare the stunts and ability to pitch over to make a loop is but it is dramatic when it's nose practically stays in the same place as it flips and then it virtually stops when pointing straight up... bizarre looking. Some new pilotless planes on display too.

my favorites are back to back on Sunday! Just need World Superbike for the Trifecta;) http://www.tvracer.com/

Definately go to another DMV. You should be able to register (get all the paperwork done) a few weeks ahead so when you show up all they have to do is dial Sacramento. My local DMV wanted the paperwork done early and the first person that registered early was number 1 when getting thru to Sacramento (happened to be me;)). They told me not to even come in that day as they'd call me when/if they got it. Not to worry you more, but the first time I applied (2008) my DMV never got thru before they notified all DMVs they were out (around 10:30). I went a year on temps which I don't think they allow anymore. I suggest you find a DMV who's supervisor is familiar with SB100 and sounds like he/she has a plan (like taking early registration). While the 500 allotted may not all have completed their final inspections. I can't imagine SB100s being given back. I think that's part of the problem... people get them before their car is close to being done and they sit on them. I don't think there's a time limit so technically it's yours no matter how long it takes to build. Personally, I think you should have to complete your car in the year awarded or forfeit it. I know one custom builder that told me he has "extras". That ain't right.

I bought the weather kit and regret it. I should of gotten some side protection... I wanted to add that lower side bar (not a double bar set up) but it wouldnt fit with the kit. Live and learn I like the Caterham full-cage set up but don't know how that would work with our cars.

List your projects for the winter modding season
Mondo replied to slngsht's topic in General Sevens Discussion
Hey, it's just now starting to be driving season for me... up until the last few weeks it was too dam hot (did a couple night drives for ice cream along with a few early morning drives...) currently: finishing a new fuel pump sump in tank heat shield for exhaust pipe new fuel filter & spark plugs installing a 7 in grill might re-inforce fender brackets in January (only month too cold/wet to drive) -
Please post some pics of the cage when you get a chance... I'd be interested to see what it looks like.
