  1. Glad to hear he's got other work going during this recession.... also just read an article that said Texas is feeling the downturn the least. Good for you guys! Better than the mess we got here in the "Golden State";(
  2. Got an email showing some cool engines and we've shown tiny scale things here before. This museum is pretty cool http://www.craftsmanshipmuseum.com/

Anti-constitutionalistically 3. Passive-aggressive disorder 4. Transubstantiate THINGS THAT ARE DOWN RIGHT IMPOSSIBLE TO SAY WHEN DRUNK: 1. No thanks, I'm married. 2. Nope, no more booze for me! 3. Sorry, but you're not really my type. 4. Kebab? No thanks, I'm not hungry. 5. Good evening, officer. Isn't it lovely out tonight? 6. Oh, I couldn't! No one wants to hear me sing karaoke. 7. I'm not interested in fighting you. 8. Thank you, but I won't make any attempt to dance, I have no coordination. I'd hate to look like a fool! 9. I must be going home now, as I have to work in the morning.

    Not a 7

Are you Jamaican... how many jobs you hov, Mon;) Firefighter, car builder/driver, bio-diesel maker, lawn care service....
  5. Sorry to hear the bad news Al.... hang in there
  6. I bought that insulation material to cover half the diameter of the muffler... it's expensive as it cost "per square inch"! I had the shield made. It's a pretty thick metal, not real light. It was more complicated than it looks (at least to me) as it's 3 different size half pipe pieces welded/grinded together (without warping)... plus welding on some mounting tabs with threaded holes to the muffler (have to grind off ceramic coating to weld). I think we put some tabs on the inside of the cover to match the grommet holes on the insulation to keep in place. Luckily I got a price before the fabricator got started because I know he spent way more time than the hourly price I paid. Like a lot things, it's often more complicated to look simple.

    Bathtub test

helped when I said the color out loud to myself.... I liked this one (optical illusion) http://www.humorsphere.com/p/19.html
  8. No real air gap between the muffler/heat shield material/cover... bit of a gap where the cover narrows down up front. Tried to keep the cover as small and close the the exhaust as possible. We don't have a ceramic coating place in town so painted it to match car instead of exhaust. Might look better/cleaner if cover matched exhaust system.

  13. For some reason, the pics of my heatshield will not post (click my name and check my photo album). I bought some heat material to go between the muffler and shield from here (not cheap) and it works great, just warm to the touch (and that's regular paint, not for heat): http://www.koolmat.com/heatmast.shtml
  14. For some reason this cracked me up
  15. As long as you have the SB100 paperwork they just go thru the motions... entering VIN, hooking up for smog readings. Just make sure you tell him you want it registered by the style of the car; 62 Lotus 7 or some year before smog. Someone had a problem because they referee put in the motor year instead, basically defeating the whole purpose.

    Bathtub test

During a visit to the seniors home, I asked the director how do you determine whether or not a patient should be institutionalized? "Well," said the director, "we fill up a bathtub, then we offer a teaspoon, a teacup, and a bucket to the patient and ask him or her to empty the bathtub." "Oh, I understand," I said. "A normal person would use the bucket because it's bigger than the spoon or the teacup." "No." said the director, "A normal person would pull the plug. Do you want a bed near the window?"
  17. Never seen that before... clever
  18. Will be watching to see what you come up with.... kind of hard to swap out though as most of us have O2 sensors just past the collector. Plus I'm kind of partial to my new exhaust shield;)
  19. Man, I like the looks/workmanship of your car Jim. Too bad you have to go thru all that hassle with the lights. I'd sure like them to show you where it says that the year designated for SB100 is only for smog... Makes it kind of impossible to make a replica (or just redundant to put one type of lights on for one inspection and then anything you want after that).
  20. Computer? First it's them fancy headlights of yours and now your talking inspection shops with computers;) Actually, mine just filled out some half sheet form ... part of the package of forms like the one the CHP has to sign off on to make sure your engine isn't stolen (the officer I had really liked my car and after looking around basically took my word for it that the numbers on the form were the same as on the motor). Guess it's the ying/yang part of life.... I didn't get the SB100 cert first time around but the paperwork/certifications went smoothly the next year when I finally got it.
  21. That's the era I remember as a kid... love the GT40, Lola's, Chevrons etc... also the great racing between mustang, camaro, javelin..
  22. Jim, Did the DMV give you a list of inspection shops? I think you went to someone who is really a stickler... perhaps you ought to try a few shopes before going thru all this hassle. Looking to see if it has marked switches seems a bit over the top. The idea of replica cars is to copy them; if they didn't come that way... That being said, I think someone one here found this website; it has tiny stickers for dash switches. http://augerresources.com/
  23. I've gone to the MotoGP races for years now and the dates are too close for me. Your right on reservations... A friend books ours 6 months early; and they're are people calling at the same time (mid-night) as that's the earliest this particular hotel takes RSVPs (and they don't raise their rates for big weekends). But now that I'm off sportbikes and have a 7, maybe next year.
  24. I have these on my 67 truck and thought they'd be great for a 7.... the S2K uses 5 inch lights so wouldn't work. http://www.itsasnapwireandcable.com/7_halogen_headlights.htm
  25. The bottom allen bolts actually just go thru the fiberglass hood (guess you have a cowl) with big fender washers and nylock nuts on the inside. I think I got the wind deflectors from a Caterham dealer back east and the hinges for them are a Ford Cobra part.
