  1. haha I wish... Toyota has a test track north of phoenix that I am interviewing at. Junkyards just make it a happier place to live. Are there many seven owners around phoenix?
  2. I am a student right now, but have done a lot of work with suspensions and handling... are there aircraft junkyards out there too?
  3. Im looking at a job just north of Phoenix doing some automotive stuff and am wondering what anyone in the area thinks of the place. I've lived in Atlanta my last few years and with the recent cold spell, Az is looking nicer and nicer. Specifically...hows the car scene in Arizona? Are there junkyards?
  4. Awesome find! I got one at target and am looking for more. Couldn't stop smiling!
  5. I need some inspiration for my cold weather 7 fashion. Its starting to get chilly and soon my car will be drivable again...although minus a turbo :[ Post some pics of your scarfs/hats/jackets...i need some ideas
  6. Hehe, the R888's need to be pushed a little too hard for my comfort level, but yes, they will slide (also the reason I'm in the market for tires >_ MHKflyer52- It is foolish to think that drifting is faster, and I know better. It is however, one of the most fun things to do in an automobile. Gymkhana is really the only place it is of merit (well, besides drifting itself). While I am no professional, I do participate in closed course events for this kind of thing. I would like to add that aggressively lifting the throttle can induce oversteer as well. Ill take a look into the Federals and the suggestions by turboeric...thanks guys!
  7. So my current set of tires are toyo R888's on some toyota 14" rims. They have fantastic amounts of grip, but doing a gymkhana even brought the rear tires to 0 tread (sunny days only anyways!). They seem to have too much grip for street driving...it is hard to get the car to slide or step out at all. Toyo and Nitto (which is still toyo) seem to have the only 14" performance tires out there. I've looked at the toyo T1R as a replacement but they are still pricey, even with 'friend' pricing from a toyo employee. I'm a college student... Would running a full set of nexen all season tires on my locost be regrettable? I have all season tires on my stock 1985 saab 900 and love driving the snot out of it. Am I right that all out power and grip may not be the most fun?
  8. drove my car to work sans muffler. It wasn't too loud (mmm turbo), but the exhaust fumes suck. I wished I lived out of the city...all we have here is on/off ramps [evilgrin]
  9. What sort of radiator/cooling setups are you high power guys running? I'm at 200hp on a turbo 4 and my temperature creeps a bit with a civic radiator and spal fan when I push it for extended time. Im running about 30% antifreeze and a bottle of water wetter.
  10. I had a similar problem after I swapped engines. Coming down the backside of speedbumps compresses my front suspension enough to tap the pan. Its got some distortion wrinkles. After unsuccessfully raising the cars ride heigh I made some spacer plates for the engine mounts out of 1/4" aluminum. That did the trick.
  11. I'm in fulton county and had no trouble getting my car on the road.
  12. What'd you say about obscuring the license plate?
  13. at drifting events I only let girls ride along for weight balance reasons
  14. the engine swap is done and megasquirt has been tuned. I still need to add an intercooler and tune the acceleration enrichment to be 100%. The car is vastly more enjoyable to drive now. I think its a combination of breathing less exhaust (its on the passenger side now), a quieter exhaust (mmm turbo), better seating position, and its much easier to start up now (little gizmos like fast idle). Where I used to drive it only because I thought that I should, I now look for opportunities to drive it.
  15. Whats the maximum precipitation that you'll take your car out in? i've been bumming all weekend...rain rain rain and no wipers :/
  16. I've spent a summer doing wet lay up of CF and FG for racecar stuff for Downing Atlanta. Its not too hard to do, but having an experienced mentor helps immensely.
  17. 225/50/R14s on my car. Dry driving is great. These tires will still grip though shiny road too. Hitting a puddle in a seven is risky...the one time I spun from a puddle (and into a curb) on the streets I had R888's up front, and 205 width all season nexens (drift tires if youre curious) on the back and the back still came around. The few times I've been stuck in the rain I've been more concerned with the lack of windshield wipers...
  18. So I have been going through and making a mental list of all the things that bother me about driving my seven. A lot of people give me strange looks when I tell them that I am rarely dying to drive it, and sometimes I drive it partially because I feel that I 'should'. I'm looking for y'all's suggestions to these problems... The sun. I've had quite a few drives be uncomfortable and dangerous because I am forced to squint (or use a hand as a visor) due to the sun. Usually the solution is a tight-fitting baseball hat and sunglasses, but these are often forgotten, and are not 100% effective. Its a shame to think a sunny day car is anything but that. Nauseous after drives- After a lot of drives, I come back feeling funny/slightly sick. I think this is due to the drone of the exhaust and the exhaust fumes themselves. The exhaust currently exists just in front of the driver's side rear fender The new engine has the exhaust on the passenger side, and a turbo should help quiet it further. Stressful driving- I live in downtown atlanta. dealing with traffic can be stressful. I was thinking of raising the ride height a bit. Maybe adding some music would help? Driving feeling- I like cars that carve the road and flow around turns. I plan on playing with front and rear toe, and fixing my anti-ackerman. I really want this car to be a treat to drive. I want my daily driver to be neglected.
  19. cheap. http://www.speedwaymotors.com/Trick-Styled-Latch,1582.html countersunk install on my hood: http://www.gatechlocost.com/wordpress/wp-content/gallery/1-9-09/IMAG0627.jpg The one JohnCH posted is a really nice design that I might get if I had the funds.
  20. swap to a 2RZ engine (from a 22re), megasquirt, turbo.
  21. Ill be there. next month there should be another seven as well.
  22. pc-680 with the optional metal casing (it was instock, but weights a fraction more). It wont crank if i dont drive the car for a week or so, i think due to parasitic drains on some of my circuits (like the 3rd brake light flasher). I should really just put a battery kill switch on the car. Throwing a 6amp/12V battery charger on it for an hour or two before taking it out and there is no problems.
  23. Thanks! I just got a hardcopy in the mail. There is an online version here: http://www.nxtbook.com/nxtbooks/gatech/alumni_20090910/#/48
