  1. I've heard of that one, and have wanted to go there ever since. It reminds me of past travels to Japan, where the microcar era has continued uninterrupted from the very beginning... Here's a shot of a 50cc, one-seater Mitsuoka microcar (Mitsuoka gallery here), which was taken in 2003 on the island of Chichi-jima in the Ogasawara Islands (not far from Iwo-jima), which is technically still in Tokyo: http://www.usa7s.com/aspnetforum/upload/1942001595_Ogasawara_car.jpg ...and here's a photo taken in 2005 in the city of Kumamoto, on Kyushu, of one of the many motorcycles that Japan never exported to the U.S.: http://www.usa7s.com/aspnetforum/upload/2020512576_IMG_0168.JPG For reference, I am 5'-7".
  2. The SUV Report
  3. In the spirit of the day, I'll say 1776 lbs.
  4. If, in the end, you guys can't decide between two and then decide to just combine those two into one, please don't let the two be "tits" and "Lowdown".
  5. I'll keep a list of any names I think of and post them after July 7th when I become a club member.
  6. Money well spent, IMHO. I'd rather have my tax dollars spent weeding out the bad ones early than have it spent on their career-long salaries and subsequent pensions.
  7. It boggles my mind to think of what combination of words were in the search field to turn up this gem! :ack: edit: FYI - there should be no space between "back" and "hoe"; just "backhoe"!
  8. I'm sure it is a great car, but the backgrounds in these photos made me chuckle. The first has only one cone in the shot, and it is laying on its side. In the second shot, the car appears to be EATING a cone! (with half of the others knocked over!) And the third shot... well, it appears that cone from the second shot has been digested, and is now being expelled! I don't know Jon (Boxologist), but these photos made me think of his sig! :jonautox: Thanks for the laugh!
  9. Very true.
  10. Truly bloody amazing... :ack:
  11. Bloody amazing.
  12. Al- Neither have I! I should clarify: By "personal experience", I meant I have my envelope and checkbook at the ready and am only lacking the information for the payee line on the check and the address to put on the envelope. My personal experience is that I am finding it difficult to pay! (Not interested in PayPal) edit -- Somehow my words above don't read as non-confrontational as I intended them to read, even to me. Let me have a do-over!: Again, no rush. When the mail-in information is available, my check will be sent shortly thereafter. If it takes a few more days, weeks, or even months makes no difference to me.
  13. Stating the obvious here, but providing mail-in payment information would increase the membership by at least a few. Not meaning to rush anybody, just speaking from personal experience. edit -- If I was doing it, I would make either a Membership sub-forum or just a sticky post, locked so no replies can be posted to clutter it up, listing the pertinent information about how to join, and nothing else: cost, payment options w/relevant details for each option, and procedure (you will receive an e-mail within 48 hours...). Then I would put a separate post or a reply to the first post describing what one gets for their membership or whatever else, but I think it is best to make it straightforward and easy for people to send money to the club. So many organizations overlook this simple fact. Or, you could do something completely different. Either way...
  14. How long until you end up stuffing a small V-12 in there?
  15. My wife is well aware of the amount of life insurance I have. I think maybe that's why I am allowed to have the car in the first place!
  16. If you don't know about cycle wings, then how can you say "Wrong"?
  17. Also, I hear less schtuff gets flung into the cockpit with clams as opposed to cycles. Especially with sticky tires. Or so I've heard, but it seems logical.
  18. Minor point: The 2.0 liter Duratec is oversquare, but the 2.3 is not. Both have reputations as great engines, though.
  19. I am pretty sure MOMO itself is based in Europe (Italy).
  20. Pardon the minor hijack... Hey 1-t - in my experience, a guy can probably see more Sevens on the winding roads around Hakone on any sunny weekend than in a month anywhere in the states. Sorry Avery, but I have zero experience with the S1.
  21. 250 hp Duratec - 35 mpg (that's U.K. gallons - 1 of those is approximately equal to 1.2009 U.S. gallons) http://www.blatchat.com/T.asp?id=136481 edit -- added foreign unit of measurement clarification and HANFD symbol

    Walrus' ride

Due to Caterhams never truly being "finished", I was careful to avoid that word, and instead use the phrase "on the road". Good point, though. Never has the word "asymptotic" been more aptly applied. Oh yeah... nice car!
  23. Mine came in as a rolling chassis (without any trouble!). One has to be very careful, though. It took a few calls to various government agencies, but I eventually learned that both the EPA and the NHTSA, the DOT division, specifically, consider "car parts" to be irrevocably transformed into a "car" once an engine or transmission has been installed, even if it is subsequently removed - kind of like the definition of a virgin (I got the DOT guy to laugh when I pointed this out, and I suspect that is not easy to do ). After that happens, even if it is completely disassembled, it is and will always remain a "car". Like Tom, I am also putting a locally-sourced 2.3 Duratec into my S3 chassis car. Also like Tom, my car is already licensed for the road. Tom and I are running very parallel paths!

Koo-koo-ka-choo! I have a 2006 car that is almost on the road... :ack:
  25. The Duratec motors are street legal, at least in some parts of the country. I am sorry to hear that this is not the case where you live, though.
