  1. Dry sumped Duratec. I am not yet sure whether or not the "considerable lolly invested in your spacer" comment applies to me or my spacer.
  2. I suggest wearing a kilt, with the traditional undergarment worn with a kilt (none). Pat that down!
  3. Sean

    Albania

When you think about it, there is probably a better chance of seeing them in an Albanian oilfield than on the streets of Calgary!
  4. From page five of the Caterham owner's handbook:
  5. Wow, fifteen posts already, and no mention of the Hartley or RST V-8 engines! Or were they already mentioned and I overlooked it?
  6. Thought you might appreciate this thread from a forum based in Ireland: http://www.octane.ie/forum/showthread.php?t=44061
  7. I like how the car lost weight and gained power as the story went on, as though the story were being told in a pub. Good story, and great photos!
  8. Okay: Klaatu barada nikto! There - you're exempt. Just tell 'em I said it's okay. (and see where that gets ya)
  9. Tom, I think the intent may have been different than your interpretation. When I read the line: I interpreted it to mean that even at 70 mph in fourth gear, the rear end starts to "snake" when full welly is applied, which most cars will not do. But then again, maybe not - who knows what those wacky Brits really mean sometimes?
  10. It's "add lightness", not "add light". That's a great idea. Wish I had thought of it first.
  11. Those look like Avon ZZR tires... (?) Oh yeah - congratulations!
  12. One of these three from FIAMM: 66020 - two plastic horns + electric compressor 66025 - two "metal" horns + electric compressor 66030 - three plastic horns + electric compressor Any of the above run about 25-30 bucks, plus shipping. I bought a 66030 using Amazon (because the 66030 it was the cheapest of the three when I was searching), but it is not yet installed. I have heard these before, and they are effective. All of the above claim 134 dB. Weight penalty is about three pounds.
  13. The one I saw listed is a kit.
  14. Is it definitely MopHo's old ride, or another Elan of the same color? Just curious. It sure looked good!
  15. There is one currently listed in the "Cars For Sale/Wanted" section of this site.
  16. I only know the basics: He started in Colorado, and went to Los Angeles, Monterey, then a "tour" from there to Washington (state), and on to Anchorage. Just putting Denver, CO>Los Angeles, CA>Monterey, CA>Anchorage, AK into Google Maps yields a distance of 4,510 miles, so I expect his trip will easily cover over 5,000 miles. For a Kiwi-friendly comparison, it is right about 5,500 miles as the proverbial crow flies from Auckland to Tokyo.
  17. It is good to know that Tom is okay. Man, what a journey he is making! I was thinking today that, if he left the Silicon Valley area on Monday or Tuesday, as I believe he did, and averaged 300 miles per day, he would be about half-way home by now. But then I remembered he planned on taking "the scenic route" from SV to Washington, so I guess he is probably somewhere near the U.S./Canada border now (the Southern one!). Dang!

  19. No, I don't know for sure, but because part of the article reads: it makes me think it is a one-off special. Besides, it has the same purple wheels! I got a shot or two of this car as well. I hope to get them posted here as soon as my print staff finish post-production work on those shots (translation: I am hoping that my wife may be able to help me with the pictures tomorrow! )
  20. It is a 1956 Avia 750 Mark III streamliner. It looks very low to the ground - more so in person than in photos.
  21. Gert, John, Tom - PMs sent. See you guys there.
  22. I must remember to not stand in front of your car!
  23. Should there be two commas in the title of this sub-forum (Politics, Religion, and Controversy), or is it correct as it is now?
  24. Yes, once an engine OR transmission is installed in the car, at that point it ceases to be "car parts" and forevermore becomes a "car", even if the engine or transmission is subsequently removed.
  25. Dismantling a car, importing it as car parts, and then reassembling the car is specifically prohibited by federal law, as it will be knowingly misrepresenting the goods being imported. And any car less than 25 years old that you might wish to import must comply with the FMVSS, and a Caterham does not. It is very easy to find this out and more by using your favorite search engine. My advice is to focus on sites with ".gov" in the URL, or sites that are otherwise clearly trustworthy, and to give less credibility (significantly less) to opinions found on so many car-related forums written by those who may or may not know of what they speak. Best of luck.
