    Walrus' ride

Due to Caterhams never truly being "finished", I was careful to avoid that word, and instead use the phrase "on the road". Good point, though. Never has the word "asymptotic" been more aptly applied. Oh yeah... nice car!
  2. Mine came in as a rolling chassis (without any trouble!). One has to be very careful, though. It took a few calls to various government agencies, but I eventually learned that both the EPA and the NHTSA, the DOT division, specifically, consider "car parts" to be irrevocably transformed into a "car" once an engine or transmission has been installed, even if it is subsequently removed - kind of like the definition of a virgin (I got the DOT guy to laugh when I pointed this out, and I suspect that is not easy to do ). After that happens, even if it is completely disassembled, it is and will always remain a "car". Like Tom, I am also putting a locally-sourced 2.3 Duratec into my S3 chassis car. Also like Tom, my car is already licensed for the road. Tom and I are running very parallel paths!

Koo-koo-ka-choo! I have a 2006 car that is almost on the road... :ack:
  4. The Duratec motors are street legal, at least in some parts of the country. I am sorry to hear that this is not the case where you live, though.

    GO!!!!!

Strange coincidence that you would post this today! In Japanese culture, today, the 5th day of the 5th month, is Boy's Day. Go means 5 in Japanese. And the Racer family is actually the Mifune family. As a kid, I always wondered why a guy named Speed Racer had a "G" on his shirt and a "M" on his helmet... wasn't until much later that I learned his name was really Mifune Go in the original manga and TV series. edit -- Go is his given name, and Mifune is his family name, but the order of names in Japan is opposite that of Western culture.
  6. You should nickname those friends LarryPho and CurlyPho. Then they could only expect it when you poke them in the eyes or smack them with a 2 x 4 or something.
  7. I have not run across any sites that fit this description, really. Or if I have, they didn't come across that way to me (?).
  8. Gearbox filler thread on CCC: http://www.californiacaterhamclub.com/chat/showthread.php?t=991
  9. Are you guys hiring?
  10. That might not be his fault, directly. He may have found himself in a situation where he was only allowed one call.
  11. Another thing to consider is that there are three stages of child seat: Infant seat, Child seat, and Child booster. There are "convertibles" available that bridge across two (or more?) of these applications, but past experience with "sofa-beds" and "on-off road motorcycles" and other dual-purpose gadgets which perform neither task well has made me wary of them. Your focus now should be on getting a quality rear-facing infant seat, and worry about the other varieties when their time comes. All IMHO, of course (REF: my opinion = less than 1/6,000,000,000 of world opinion... just like everybody else's).
  12. Agreed, but at the same time it is good to see the factory giving their customers what they want.
  13. Wow, that last photo really graphically illustrates how one careless lane change by Billy-Bob Q. Public could very quickly alter a Seven-owner's world in a really bad way.
  14. First off, congratulations! Now, to relate some recent experience: Infants tend to go to sleep shortly after the car starts moving. Once you arrive at your destination, you are not going to want to wake the baby (trust me). Many (most? NOT all!) purpose-designed and built infant's car seats can be detached from the base, which is mounted in the car, so you can remove the baby and car seat from the car undisturbed. We chose a Combi detachable model based on its light weight design specifically for this reason. So, are you gonna change your screen name to "sprogster"?
  15. From the title, I had anticipated this to be about Brausch Neimann's series 1 car.
  16. Even nicer considering it is not stainless, but polished aluminum! (the headlights look uneven in this shot though...)
  17. Wow, you mean you can "feel" the changes in the balance and/or handling based on the weight difference? I would not have expected that! Wild. edit -- Nevermind; I get it now. You compared the weight of each while they were out of the car. Duhhh... Sometimes I mis-read things initially.
  18. It is unclear to me what you mean about "the difference to hand"... are you referring to the appearance?
  19. I too am impressed that Cosworth have stepped up as they have. On one hand, it is what you would expect any company to do in this type of situation; but on the other hand, experience shows that far too often, a company won't follow through as it should (anymore). Kudos to Cosworth for this!
  20. Yeah, but bottled water costs more than gasoline.
  21. 5. If things got really bad, I could eat the llama.
  22. When I first saw this, the first thing I thought was that it was going to walk over all the difficult-to-walk-over stuff, and then go into a building and detonate. I thought those packs on the top and sides contained explosives. When it is slipping around on the ice in the second video, it looks like two really drunk guys fighting.
  23. We in the US know all about the tendency of the British government to push things a bit too much... (see Second Amendment thread)
  24. I'm no Lotus historian, but... Did Lotus use fractions or decimals for serial numbers during the 1957-1959 model year Sevens?
  25. Congratulations! Man, that was fast - I had imagined it would take longer to find one to your liking.
