2020 Katie's Cars & Coffee Thread - Great Falls, VA
scannon replied to rcollum's topic in Mid-Atlantic
There are at least two Sennas in the Denver area: This one was at a Super Car Saturday at the Denver McLaren dealer. This one was parked back to back with my Shelby at a local C & C. Needless to say the Shelby didn't get much attention. -
I watch BaT daily. I've bought two cars and tried to list two other's for sale. Both of those were rejected by BaT. The first one was a '16 BMW M2 with 1,600 miles. They said it was too new, then two weeks later another '16 M2 with less miles was accepted. The other one was a '14 Volvo turbo with the folding hard top with 6k miles. They said they only listed the older Volvos. On Monday I sold my '17 Shelby GT350 to a company called givemethevin.com. I had tried the local CL and also got offers from some of the local Ford dealers. Give Me the Vin offered more that any of the others including offers that came in on the CL ad. Pictures and paperwork went back and forth via email and I dropped the car off at one of the dealer auction places in Denver. The final paperwork was signed there and I gave them the signed title and they gave me a check for the agreed amount. They also arranged a prepaid Uber trip home. Then Give Me The Vin ran the car through the dealer auction yesterday. The lady I worked with at the dealer auction has promised to let me know what it sold for but I haven't heard back from her as yet. I hope one of the dealers that low balled me bought it for significantly more that I got.

Most every brand of two post lifts also sells 4 post lifts.

Croc, Is that blue Caterham in the first picture my former SV? Do you own it now? Edit: A second look at the picture and I see a bit of orange showing on the back side of the RF wheel so that pretty much confirms it was my car.

This was the normal for my shop a few years ago. All have been sold off except the red Miata and the Baby 7. The Lava Orange Miata on the far right was rocking a 480 HP LS3 conversion from Flyin Miata. We did stuff 6 Miatas in there once just to see if we could.

Valentines Day - a Reminder on Romancing your Seven

Ah Bessie the 7, how we miss you. There is always room for you in my shop but remember my size 12 shoes are a tight fit in your (pedal) box. -
A New York attorney representing a wealthy art collector called his client. "I have some good news, and I have some bad news." The art collector replied, "I've had an awful day. Give me the good news first." The lawyer said, "Well, I met with your wife today, and she informed me that she just invested $5,000 in two pictures that she thinks will bring a minimum of $15 million to $20 million, and I think she could be right." Saul replied enthusiastically, "Well done! My wife is a brilliant businesswoman! You've just made my day. Now I know I can handle the bad news. What is it?" The lawyer replied, "The pictures are of you and your secretary."

I took my 2005 SV and an aftermarket Miata 4 X 100mm wheel and tire to an engineering company. They did some measuring and calculated what thickness to make it and what sized the hubcentric flange and relief should be. IIRC the cost was about $200. The adapters had different thicknesses, both were about 1" thick. IIRC I used 205/XX-15 front tires and the rear was 225/XX-15.

Sorry, I have no idea how this ended up in the Merry Christmas thread. I thought I was starting a new thread.

Why am I a pilot and not a doctor... When young, I decided to go to Medical School . At the entrance exam we were asked to arrange the letters NPEIS and form the name of an important body part which is most useful when erect. Those who said spine are doctors today. The rest of us went to flight school.

The build is happening near Knoxville, Tennessee. The pictures in the article were taken at the shop in Colorado. The build will be by R & T staffers with Sam Smith and Zach Bowman heading the project. Forgot to put the link to Rocky Mountain Caterham in my previous post. http://www.rockymountaincaterham.com/

My copy of road and track arrived today and has that article in post #1. I've known about the R & T build for quite awhile but was pledged to not speak about it. I've known Josh and his father Ross Robbins for about 15 years. Ross is involved in the new business. I visited their shop a few weeks ago and was impressed with their clean but well set up operation. The place was full of Caterhams in various stages of completion. There are stacks of Caterham parts as they start to build an inventory of new parts. I think many on this forum have met Ross at LOGS and other events and through the books he wrote about his adventure/misadventures with Sevens and other Lotus cars. He sold his own long time Lotus 7 to Josh and it was in the shop looking like new. Josh told me they have sold 8 Caterhams since they became Rocky Mountain Caterham a few months ago. I wish them well in their new business. Being around so many Caterhams in the shop made me yearn for the SV I built and owned for about 14 years.

I bought a stanchion from Caterham for a S3 as one for an SV was not available at that time. A friend cut it in half in the middle and added about 4" to it then smoothed down and polished the welds. It didn't sit flush with the cowl but still worked out well for me. Caterham also sold brackets to be mounted on the frame rail where the holes are for the wind screen mount. This makes the Brooklands screens mount very stable and much easier to change from Brooklands to windscreen. I drilled out the mounting holes and tapped the bracket for 10mm threads to accommodate the motorcycle mirrors I wanted to use. The mirrors take the place of bolts on the rear set of holes. Damn, I really miss that car.

The next time that Urus shows up please get the name of the color and the color code. The next time I have a car painted it will be that shade of yellow. It makes my triple yellow Shelby look pale.

I resemble that remark but I'm a very warm animal. The coldest temp I driven in a Miata was 4F, top down, windows up and heater on full blast. I actually turned the heat and blower down on the trip to the party. I kinda wish I was the big furry animal in this picture.

I drove my Miata to C & C on Saturday in 28F weather. Top down, windows up, however, it does have an excellent heater and heated seats, not quite the same thing. An hour later I drove it top down to the far end of the Denver metroplex for a Miata club Christmas party, by that time the temp was up to about 35F.

Looking at both the Miata 5 and 6 speed transmissions it appears to me the tail shaft housing is the only Miata NC part and it has been modified at least in the removal of the mounting points for the PPF (Power Plant Frame which all generations of Miatas have). The next section forward is from the NB while the front case and bell housing are bespoke to Caterham. I was able to fit the NB transmission into my 2005 SV with some trimming of the front case and machining of the tailshaft housing. The first picture shows left to right, stock tail shaft housing, the finished housing and the sacrificial housing I used for test fitting. This is the rear transmission mount fabricated by a machinist friend who machined the final version. The new mount uses the Caterham rubber mount. The shift lever came through the center of the hole in the center console. -

The 2nd gen 5 speed Miata transmission in my Caterham easily handled the 301 RWHP the engine produced, however 300 HP is about the limit for the 1st and 2nd gen transmissions. The 3rd gen transmission is being used in the Morgan 3 wheeler. IDK what the limit is for that transmission. The 1st and 2nd gen 5 speed transmissions are some the best shifting transmissions you will ever drive. The 6 speed versions not so much. -

Can I buy the roller without the engine and gearbox? -
Thanks to Tom for keeping a vital part of 7-dom alive and productive. :driving:

Not me at all. My $6k Baby 7 (see avatar) is much lighter, more powerful and faster than the Bug and I don't have $33k of spare change. Besides after getting a thrill ride a few years ago in a real Type 35C, the Baby II Bug would be a letdown. So fess up, who on here had one on order and did you get delivery yet?
-
IIRC someone on this forum had one of these on order. Did you get yours yet? https://manofmany.com/rides/cars/bugatti-delivers-baby-ii-for-33k

I attended the 30th Anniversary Reunion of the Miata at Laguna Seca last week. Somewhere between 1,200 and 1,400 Miatas attended. Here is a link to a thread with some pictures of the event. https://forum.miata.net/vb/showthread.php?t=704302 In the 30 years of Miatas over 1,000,000 have been built. This is my 30th Anniversary Edition Miata.
