  1. Its not the largest in terms of area burned, the Hayman fire in 2002 was far larger but in a less densely populated area. This one is the most expensive in terms of number and average cost of homes destroyed. I think about 140+ homes lost in the Hayman fire. The wind has come back up and I am again smelling smoke inside my house. I hope the wind has not started the fire moving again. It was 30 - 40% contained today, the first time they have announced any containment at all. Wind gusts up to 50+ MPH are predicted tonight. One bit of good news, all the missing people have now been accounted for.
  2. We've been having a bit of a fire here since Monday. The mountain communities West of Boulder are involved. About 6,300 acres burned. So far 169 homes have been burned out completely. No casualties so far either. They got some rain yesterday which has helped a lot. Unfortunately, no more rain coming and high winds expected this evening so it could easily flare up again. I live about 20 miles due East of the fire area and the smoke plume has been going right over us. I can see the flames at night, during the day the mountains and foot hills are obscured by the smoke. I'm very allergic to any kind of smoke and I've spent most of the week inside and am still affected by the smoke. Here's a link to some infrared aerial views of the burn area sent to me by Alaskossie. http://www.digitalglobe.com/downloads/featured_images/fourmilefire/DG_Analysis_Fourmile_Canyon_Fire_7sept2010.pdf
  3. Great fabrication job. How much boost does it take to get 350 HP? Will the stock internals support that much power? What was behind the decision to go with water/air vs. air/air charge cooling? That looks like an SV chassis with that much room between the motor and frame rails.
  4. Twobone, I'd suggest leaving the other mirrors on for awhile, it takes a little time to adjust to the new mirror.
  5. Here's a view from the rear. It is difficult to actually see it because it is not much taller than the windscreen frame. I have since removed the original center rear view mirror. I left it on the car while I got used to the Mirrors For Sevens. It takes a little getting used to but now it is the only mirror on the car. Highly recommended.
  6. I'll bet she owns one, that is if she is old enough to drive. It is a chick car after all.
  7. Another interesting item related to WWII. A user controllable 360 degree view of the inside of the cockpit of a P-51 Mustang. Use the controls in the lower left of the picture to move around or you can click and drag the cursor to move around. You can zoom in and read the warning labels on the various controls. http://www.stclairphoto-imaging.com/360/P51-Mustang/P51_swf.html
  8. Here's another WWII related video about the recovery of a P-39 Airacobra sent to Russia on the Lend-Lease program. http://link.brightcove.com/services/player/bcpid34757272001?bclid=0&bctid=87804472001
  9. By Richard Sullivan. 65 Years Ago my Dad shot this film along Kalakaua Ave. in Waikiki capturing spontaneous celebrations that broke out upon first hearing news of the Japanese surrender. Kodachrome 16mm film: God Bless Kodachrome, right? I was able to find an outfit (mymovietransfer.com) to do a much superior scan of this footage to what I had previously posted, so I re-did this film and replaced the older version There are more still images from this amazing day, in color, at http://www.discoveringhawaii.com VJ Day, Honolulu Hawaii, August 14, 1945 on Vimeo
  10. Ron, That is fantastic! I love it when something like this happens. Tell us more.
  11. Gert, Are you talking about Emigration Canyon (Utah 65) out of Salt Lake City? I agree with you, especially if you then take East canyon (Utah 66) over to Morgan.

  13. BMW's campaign for their factory approved "pre-owned" cars. The fine print says "You know you're not the first, but do you really care?"
  14. You cruise and I'll blat, it's all good.
  15. Took a two hour blat this afternoon around the area. Temp was 95F but still comfortable for me, I'm kind of a heat lizard. I was out after dark last night in the BlatCat (new name for my Se7en) with temps in the low 80s and had to wear a wind breaker and gloves to be comfortable. I've put about 500 miles on the car in the last week including 80+ on the local kart track. The odometer turned over 7777 miles while on the track but I didn't have the camera with me to record the event.
  16. http://www.good.is/post/mcdonald-s-hamburgers-don-t-age I knew there was a reason I haven't had a burger from McDonalds or any other fast food chain for many years, I'm still trying to digest the last one from 20 years ago.
  17. Kiwi, I hope all is well with you and your family (and the Se7en). The views I saw on the TV news looked really bad but at that time they said there were no deaths. I suspect you are still without power and I hope that is the only reason we haven't heard from you.

  19. Great layout, maybe we can have a Se7ens gathering or LOGXX there someday in the not too distant future.
  20. Here's a rundown of the various engines used in the Morgan three wheel cars: http://www.morgan3w.de/ then click on Engines on the upper left side of the page. I'm not aware of BSA or Norton ever making a V twin engine.
  21. Now there's something you don't see every day, a diff in a coffin instead of a stiff in a coffin. Does this mean Ben will have your car done in time for LOG30?
  22. Bob, Mention that price when you call Tire Source. Ask to speak to Pete, he is the one that can make the deals. Mismatched tires are a very bad plan on a performance car like a Se7en. I highly recommend against it if you are going to be doing any canyon carving or track use. Bill Cardell of Flyin Miata and I were talking about this earlier in the month. They put a fresh pair of the same tires on one end of one of their high performance Miatas and it was almost uncontrollable on the track. When they finally figured it out and put fresh tires to match on the other end all the handling gremlins went away.
  23. Bob, Pete at The Tire Source in Boulder sells them, 303-443-3021. His prices are competitive with the on line sellers and when he quotes you a price, mounting and balancing are included. You will pay sales tax but that is offset by no shipping charges.
  24. Blubarisax, sorry if I stole your thunder by revealing details on your car. Also, I thought the car was headed to California when the magazine writer was finished with it.
