  1. I'm dealing with similar richness and low rpm acceleration 'pops' and hesitation in a 1600 x-flow w/ twin 40DCOE. Curiously, I have 32mm chokes as delivered from Caterham, not the 30's everyone else seems to have or recommend. Anyone think I'm wasting my time trying to tune these 32's? better to get 30's and start over? thx
  2. These are 6x13 Panasports, not the lightest on the market, but affordable and durable with the reality of todays roads. http://www.usa7s.com/aspnetforum/upload/1656034501_BN rightrear.JPG
  3. well, whadda ya know, found the box finally, opened it and saw watch for first time yesterday. What did they put on that strap to generate that stink ???? I thought you guys were exaggerating... at least its kept time for the 24 hours I've 'had' it, and LOVE the design even more in person

yeah, figured as much, was just fishing for a reply... I spent a year "living" :banghead: on long island, so I was ready with retort

thanks slngsht, don't know why it would have switched from previous black on white as for other comment, what bearing does my location have on my question?
  6. Curious to know if anyone else finds the "white on black background" hard on the eyes? (or maybe the site hasn't changed, and my laptop has flip-flopped colors... ?)
  7. I misplaced mine before getting it out of the box, so still haven't even seen it yet :banghead: after reading all this, I wonder if I should stop looking and not feel so bad? :_deadhorse:
  8. Just imagine the benefits of combining this with the "magnets around the fuel line" and "vortex inlet swirler" technologies... ... darn car might even PRODUCE energy as it moves
  9. should also have asked where the motor is?
  10. Hi Who built the motor, and when? Which block does it use? Is the complete dry sump system included? Does it use an unmodified Ford flywheel? (ie is my stock clutch going to work?) thx
  11. Beg to differ, but one photo shows the "R.M." chassis tag. If it is an RM, it's from South Africa, (note: port elizabeth) and in their day, had a pretty decent reputation. Like any other kit car, much depends on what was done to it after the unassembled bits left the factory. (not necessarily recommending this car, no relation to seller, etc etc.)
  12. yikes! what's feeding those two coffee cans?
  13. My first 7 had a side exit exhaust; noise made driving experience less than perfect... Current car has the 'standard' Caterham left-side muffler / rear exit system that tucks in front of LR wheel, goes over axle, and out the left side below taillights. Don't see much more restriction over the basic muffler, but WAY quieter in the drivers seat.

I'm still waiting for a good explanation of this "towing your seven" concept... 1998: Montreal - LOG18/Atlanta - Montreal; 2400 miles round trip; no top, doors, heater, windshield wipers, or common sense...
  15. Hi "lowflyer" the photo thru the trailer side door of your right-front wheel strap concerns me. you should position the strap so the tension is in line with the center of the wheel hub; strap tension plus vibration may cause the wheel to rotate, and relax the tension on the strap.
  16. Try Dave Handy at Sasco Sports at VIR. They're vintage racers, but sell other tires as well.
  17. At you go significantly lower, your front suspension geometry is going to be compromised to the point where it negates any gains from lower c of g. Also think about suspension and damper stroke. If the damper tops out under cornering chassis roll, the "infinite spring rate" effect also wipes out any gains with alarming effect.
  18. Helpful email response I received from the organizers: " Even if you're pre-registered for the event, you still need to check in at Show Field Regiatration when you first arrive. Show Field Registration is located in the lot just OUTSIDE of Gate 3. That is where you will receive your goody bag, etc and get your decal for your windshield. That decal is what gets you, the car and a passenger into the show for the weekend (children 12 and under are always free). After you have your sticker you can just drive right in each day. That sticker will also give you 24-hour access to the show field. So if you get your sticker on Friday then you'll be able to drive right in on Saturday and Sunday morning - you could drive in at 6am if you wish. And I can just about guarantee that if you arrive at 6am there won't be any wait at all. With that being said, Show Field Registration opens at 7am on Friday and Saturday (8am on Sunday). You cannot enter the show grounds with your car until you have your sticker so you'll want to time your arrival accordingly on your first day. In other words, you don't want to arrive at 4am on Friday bacause you'll be waiting until 7am for Show Field Registration to open - unless you want to sleep in your car for 3 hours "
  19. To Arya My work takes me thru VA to NC many times each year. You have wonderful roads. Come up to Montreal this summer for the great hospitality, and check out our third-world cart tracks :banghead:
  20. To davemk1: if it makes you feel any better, our roughly 33% more expensive gas up here sure doesn't get us better roads, and national health care is great, providing you aren't in a hurry to get any urgent treatment :ack:
  21. wow, 400+ pounds, and at only 120 mph ? sounds an aggressive claim, not to mention the "quality" of the airflow towards the rear of a 7-esque car will be eager to hear about real-world results cheers
  22. If you're "windshield-less" and not wearing a full face, I'd have to say that the odds are you'll take a big one some day...
  23. Alaskossie, glad to fill you in, but could be long and tedious, maybe best to shoot me a personal email and we'll swap info off-board Ian
  24. Well, I'm not fresh, been on-board for 3 months but never posted here. I'm a Mechanical Eng by education, ex-aerospace by trade, currently trying to turn fantasy into reality as an open-wheel race engineer. Been at it 7 years since leaving the 'real world', some full time, some part, but always smiling... Lots of travel though :ack: Current Caterham is my third. First was a toyota-powered, datsun-suspended clone built in Ontario, which I foolishly sold due to future parts availability concerns. Second was a right hand drive 'perfect condition' used Caterham from an independent dealer in England, photos and phone calls fooled me. Shipped it here sold it a month later to a guy who "just had to have it" so broke even. Third one was new Caterham kit, bought under delusion that everything would be new, correct, easy to put together, etc. Long story short, car was 3.5 years old before turning a wheel.:banghead: Names of guilty parties above omitted, as I don't have time for frivolous lawsuits None of that matters now, car is wonderful. Photo in readers rides, circa end Nov 07. cheers
