  1. maybe put a cooling system pressure tester on the car and look/listen for the leak?
  2. If your "nearly new" clutch disc is organic and got oiled by a bad tranny seal, sorry but throw it away...
  3. I bought the heat insulation kit from caterham with my new car. It's installed on all the surfaces of the pedal box and partway down the tunnel. Can't say that I find the cockpit of this car any cooler than my previous seven. I'm going a different route over the winter, with some kind of cooling duct for fresh air to the feet area instead.
  4. How old / how many shifts on the clutch disc? When was clutch actuator last adjusted? Any chance you have huge feet and use the clutch pedal as a foot rest? (it happens a lot more than you'd think) How old is the rear oil seal on the engine?
  5. while I think about possible causes, can I suggest you slip the gearbox into neutral before starting, rather than worry about what's in front or behind that you might lurch into. stock Ford clutch assy, or something more modern?
  6. In the end, I decided to risk the 30 bucks as well, but find they don't sell my size 7.5. Rats. (I have ideally sized Lotus 7 feet).
  7. Yeah, I'm Pinto-Powered-and-Proud :yesnod: and living with about the same rear crash protection level....
  8. Maybe just me, but I couldn't access the forums last night. All I got was a blank white screen and the note at the bottom "waiting for..." Worked fine during the day, and other sites I was at last night loaded normally and quickly. Seems ok this morning. Curious.
  9. Love my Piloti's, but curious how this outlet shop can sell $100 shoes for $30... are they seconds / blems / knockoffs? Anyone dealt with / recommend this distributor? thx
  10. Yeah, I'm a sissy  but being as I'm on my third !!! engine in first one thousand miles, I AIN'T takin' any more risks... cheers

    finally

Gotta say WOW again. Jealous as heck... just luverly. With new side view photos, this comes to mind: lose that windscreen :ack: and seriously, put some roll bar padding on the lateral downtubes; even the slightest road bumps will have you and passenger banging heads off them I'd think.
  12. Hi John Ditto the "hard to tell" on the price, but thought I'd throw this in: $20k max (let the debate begin...) I have a Kent powered Caterham. The one you are looking at with 45DCOE carbs and the 244 cam will be a bit peaky with regards to power. As a daily around-town, it might not be ideal, but if track-days are your goal, let 'er rip.
  13. This might be a hijack, but... "mounting a font bumper, per NY State requirements," WTHeck???? seriously? what 'law' do they quote you? what constitutes an acceptable design?
  14. The sump on my x-flow is the lowest point, and it is about, what 18" behind the front tire centerline. What usually happens for me on speed bumps is that front tires go up, over, and down, then the sump skims (or worse) the speed bump. For speed bumps I can't get around, or over "creatively", I carry two pieces of 2x6 about 3' long in the boot, put them on the far side of the speed bump in line with the front tires. Keeps the front end higher while the sump clears the speed bump. Gives onlookers a laugh, but has saved me a couple of "take the long way around" side trips already.
  15. As I understand the 'legend', the first Seven (in BRG) was on its way to a show in London when the nose cone was broken in transit, and the only thing they could find on short notice was a yellow one. Maybe researching that story will lead somewhere.

    finally

Wow is right ! Curious about the front fenders. As-is I'd say "why bother?", and in context of the way our regs up here are generally interpreted, tires must not be "visible from directly above". Ditto earlier comment, sucks thinking about that in the garage for 4 months. I lived in Absecon down by the coast for two winters, you could probably drive it thru most of the weather we had in 2002-2004. cheers
  17. this just screams "Darwin Award" candidate...
  18. http://www.autoblog.com/2008/11/05/sema-2008-cadillac-powered-vrs-is-omg/ Not to my taste, but the "more power is better" guys might like it...
  19. Bought? Yesterday morning I had to leave, and it had one bid, "reserve not met", with less than 30 minutes to go. I must have missed a last minute flurry. What was selling price?
  20. I got 100,000 km out of my S-10 factory rotors, and maybe 10,000 out of the Autozone (or was it PepBoys?) house brand. Live and learn.
  21. did an asking price come up in conversation at LOG? did the subject of it being the 'original' engine come up as well?
  22. ... and a curious bend in the right front anti-roll-bar / top link. (Also pretty sure that 1963 is 5 years too early for a 1600cc if that matters to purist buyers)
  23. Here's a second "foreign" observation. I too enjoyed living for several years in a number of states in the last decade. Learned early and often that the old saying "avoid politics and religion" is WAY TRUE down there. Freedom of speech is wonderful and must be retained and respected, but oh my, some of you do get your knickers in a twist reacting to the postings of people who are obviously baiting... Web forums should be fun :jester:
  24. :hurray:
  25. One of the posts expressed concern about an ATV winch having enough 'stones' to move the car. See this car lift : http://mktechnologies.com/products/mkt-aframe.htm we've got one, works superbly; if it'll lift, it'll certainly 'roll' a car backwards. call Marty @ MK, he'll tell you what brand, etc. cheers
