  1. Right, but that only works line of sight/sound, not very practical across long distances. I suppose you can always describe said girlie ... .... . | .... .- ... | -... .. --. | -... --- --- -... ...
  2. Fun, but not really a surprise, especially since the guy wasn't using a smartphone with a keyboard to text Of course you can't carry your electrical telegraph key (and ham radio) with you in your pocket to any place you go like you can a phone -- --- .-. --. .- -.
  3. Our family in Japan lives in Nishinomiya in the Hyogo Prefecture which is southern Japan, so they are about 400 miles south of where the earthquake happened. They didn't even know it happened until we called them about 2 hours after the quake. Some of our friends in Osaka (also 400 miles away from the epicenter) did feel it and said it was the biggest they had ever experienced. So far everyone we know in Tokyo area is fine
  4. It's in Northern Japan
  5. Well unfortunately there is an over abundance of "silly buggers"
  6. These are the highest rated reusable (NRR 32) and inexpensive earplugs I have found and they work great http://earplugstore.stores.yahoo.net/silnatrubear.html http://ep.yimg.com/ca/I/earplugstore_2147_99173437 .

  8. It's for environmental reasons, the road has been eroding. The Sierra Club sued to have it paved
  9. Any kind of road based event is never going to be able to keep the spectators completely safe, but here in the States it's nothing like what it was, and to some degree, still is in Europe I took this at the Rally Catalunya in Spain http://www.mjswebgallery.com/rally_2002-06/images/2004-151.jpg
  10. Why only 4 images allowed in a post?! http://www.mjswebgallery.com/rally_2002-06/images/2003-59.jpg http://www.mjswebgallery.com/rally_2002-06/images/2005-38.jpg http://www.mjswebgallery.com/rally_2002-06/images/2004-27.jpg http://www.mjswebgallery.com/rally_2002-06/images/2005-42.jpg
  11. It used to be a lot more gravel, but they have been slowly paving it and the plan is to make the whole road paved Here is the final edit of the above video, it's really well done GT3 CLIMB on Vimeo I have shot Pikes Peak several times back when it was a part of the US Rally championship schedule (02-05). The first time was a lot of fun, then years after I sort of dreaded it. Spectators are not that big of an issue compared to other rally type events Here is a few pics http://www.mjswebgallery.com/rally_2002-06/images/2002-09.jpg http://www.mjswebgallery.com/rally_2002-06/images/2002-11.jpg http://www.mjswebgallery.com/rally_2002-06/images/2002-10.jpg http://www.mjswebgallery.com/rally_2002-06/images/2003-56.jpg
  12. Yeah, I think it is really ugly too, but most people seem to love it. I imagine it is one of those cars that looks better in person, it's got a lot of cool details. I thought the Atom was hideous until I saw it up close and now think it is great looking. The 7 is like that too
  13. I've seen some weird people on various forums (one annoying guy on the lotus forum posted "in character" from the show deadwood for years) but I have to say this guy takes the cake. I find it really strange that not only does he keep coming back with new and thought out identities, but for months makes normal type posts and then one day snaps and goes on these rampages. Perhaps it is something with meds? Mildly entertaining at least
  14. No, XBow is an XBow and a Toniq is a Toniq, A WCM is a WCM, [canofworms]I don't understand why people here feel the need to classify everything as a 7. While other cars may be similar in concept, the only thing that is a 7 is a 7. "7" is the name of a car , not a concept as far as I am concerned. A Lotus 6 is a Lotus 6 not a 7 [/canofworms] Out of the box, Atoms are notoriously tricky to drive at the limit and take some effort to learn the car and set it up properly. By most accounts the XBow is really easy to drive, but not that exciting. The slow time in the Atom on the lightning lap had more to do with the driver not having the confidence ( due to lack of familiarity and the XBow had more downforce on the higher speed sections) to push it through certain sections of the track than the cars capabilities. I am sure someone with more seat time in the Atom could get more out of it. For better or worse, some cars are easy to immediately get in and drive fast Here is a (road) comparison test of the these cars done by Evo http://www.evo.co.uk/carreviews/cargrouptests/227709/ktm_xbow_v_lotus_2eleven_v_ariel_atom_v_caterham_r500.html Well my Caterham has none of those things and there is also no luggage space at all due to the boot being occupied by a fuel cell BTW, you can now get a windshield for the Atom and it has a luggage compartment in the nose
  15. Sounds like Christchurch got hit with another big one I hope you are alright
  16. Not off center, it's just the reflection
  17. I like this version http://www.mjswebgallery.com/carz2/images/R500_096.TIF.jpg
  18. It will never fit, sell the wheels to me! (They look great on your car though)
  19. go for it!
  20. It struck me as funny because it also showed up on a couple of other forums I go to yesterday as well I'm also a little jaded as productions like this are pretty common to see where I live, not to mention I sort of do this for a living (albeit to a much smaller scale)
  21. It's funny that this is making the rounds again like it just came out, it's from 2007. I don't know how anyone into cars has not seen it yet http://www.websmileys.com/sm/sad/533.gif Actually you only need to go about 40mph to get air. I just did a jump shot with a car going over a crest in the road at about 50mph and the car caught 5 feet of air. :driving: Here is the behind the scenes video
  22. YouTube - My Name Is Dug
  23. I tend to keep cars for a long time, so haven't owned a lot of them. Of my favorites, would be an 83 VW GTI that was fairly heavily modified (and yet still a mere 143hp), and 88 Acura Integra and my 02 Subaru WRX Wagon. My WRX was mildly modified as well and really enjoyed that car a lot, but I recently got rid of it for an 05 Subaru Outback Wagon with 6-cylinder and an automatic transmission which I really like. Frankly, I really don't need a fun car to drive around, I live in a city and 99.7% of the time it is just stoplight to stoplight errand running and freeway driving so I decided I needed something more practical and more comfortable to drive around (and better for hauling my photo gear). I have found I stay a lot calmer in the Outback and it is much better for long road trips. I also like the idea of living in "purgatory" during the week so that when I do take the 7 out on the weekend and head for the canyons, it is all the more special If I was going to buy a fun DD under $35k right now, it would probably be a VW GTI or a Subaru STI Hatch
