  1. Hope the ticket wasn't too bad. Great colour choice by the way
  2. Wow, I wish I had some extra cash right now....major steal in the UK A set of 4 new 6x13 Minilite style wheels for 175 GBP http://www.midlandwheels.com/Shop/P-52-6-x-13-Minilight-Silver---4x95.25-Set-of-4.html
  3. If you want a taste of the 60's go see these guys live. Lots of peace, love and a major hangover the next day: http://www.furthur.net/ Went to a show in Western NY a few weeks ago. The vibe was so relaxed, just everybody having a great time drinking, dancing, etc...
  4. Time to add a bit of levity
  5. outrageous! How low can you go (or how high depending on your approach to viewing a balance sheet).
  6. I'm 100% long on stocks in the search for returns. Anytime I have diversified into anything else I end up selling to buy stocks on a dip. I need to start to learn to sell a bit on a bounce to have cash to buy back in on a dip. I can stomach dips. Its just this structural crisis stuff that makes me double guess my strategies. CDN bank stocks have generally faired very well.
  7. trying not to panic......

Alaskossie, That is so amazingly cool. You are ready for the zombie apocalypse or a killer snow storm
  9. I'm now investing in companies that pay fair dividends and have massive capitalizations. Canadian banks (TD has a AAA rating....higher than US treasuries now!), transcanada pipeline and Exxon Mobile. Hopefully this plays out well in the long run.
  10. My God that sounds Epic! Now added to my bucket list
  11. Thanks Croc Canada hopefully is in a better position. Although a falling USD makes our exports more expensive. At least we have a strong resource rich and diversified economy. I guess I'll just hold on, keep investing with current cash flow into dividend paying stocks and repurchasing more stocks with those dividends and with any luck we will be out of this valley. In future I need to pay more attention and build more of a cash holding to enable diversification and buying when others are selling
  12. I sure find it hard to find my bearing these days as an investor. I've had 20 years of experience and have always focused long term. Shocks come and go and the market always rebounds. However, I worry that perhaps we are in a different place. Has the world become so bloated with debt and so over extended without any real productivity improvements that our short to mid term prospects are grim?
  13. I'm always on the look out for good instructions on carb adjustments. This pulls together the different flat height adjustments and approach. Anyone disagree with the measures? weber_info.pdf
  14. Ouch - I ended up biting the bullet to order an Aldon Distributor with ignitor ($400 with shipping and exchange) This was the spec for the one I ordered: As an approximation the idle figure is 10 deg B.T.D.C and full advance approx 34 deg BTDC @ 5400 rpm. These are engine rpm. If you have any queries with this please contact our Sales Department on 01384 572553. 15. Was your petronix a stock item? I got a copy of the english ford unit advance curve and it says that at 940 rpm is would be at 8 degrees of advance with a max of 24 at 3050. That's only 16 degrees of advance difference. That would lead to a massive idle advance.
  16. As much as I'd like to "bang" many a long-legged hottie, I'd probably miss out on other great life pleasures like showing my son the "inside grass line" around the slow people at the go kart track
  17. How did the pertronix distributor run? Was it the english ford unit? They sell one specifically for english fords for $215 that includes and ignitor built in. I'm considering this as a plug and play replacement for my rather suspect old Lucas electronic unit
  18. Thanks I have the same concern. I've read the blatchat posts as well. The guy at caterham told me it is set up for a 234 cam supersprint. I agree...it may have a less than wonderful curve.
  19. Well, I swapped out the coil with no success. I'm just going to order a new Aldon Distributor with an ignitor installed and new plug and coil lead and start from scratch. I figure the $325 investment will at least rule out ignition problems going forward. It may also provide a better advance curve. Surprisingly Caterham UK had the best price.
  20. I think there is a lucas sport coil with a similar built in ballast. I think I will try that instead.
  21. OK, its weird The Bosch Blue coil is supposed to be ballasted. However, when I turn on my ignition (car not running), the voltage is still 11.67 volts. It does show a 3-4 ohm resistance when I test the primary resistance at rest Is that a symptom of a busted coil? Perhaps the internal ballast resistor breaks down at high revs. I will swap in a spare coil (that just so happens to be not ballasted) and go for a short drive. If it can rev properly, then I will get either another ballasted coil or an external ballast (as replacing ballasted coils is expensive).
  22. It will be a rocket!
  23. I just finished replacing my battery, checking my timing advance and balancing my carbs on my 89 crossflow kent. Now my car will not accelerate hard over 3,000. I get a horrible misfire/backfire. I noticed I now have a fairly significant exhaust leak at the connection between the headers at the join for the 4 into 1 exhaust system. At high revs will that exhaust leak be the culprit to my poor running? I will check the venturi screws tonight as well as my float level
  24. The battery is an old wet cell that came with the car from japan. The water level is fine, but she seems to be fairly weak. I think a switch to a modern sealed battery is in order.
  25. After sitting for a while my car would not start. I determined I was not getting a spark. I have a new Bosch blue coil which has a built in capacitor. When I temporarily swapped in a hotter coil without a capacitor I got a spark. So I think the final culprit is my old battery. While it is putting out 12 volts, I think she is low in amps. I suspect she is not putting enough juice out to make a good spark with the resistor'd coil. Make sense?
