Nice to see everyone again as well as meet some new folks. Jon's car is simply incredible and I can confirm after seeing Mazda's car for the first time that it is even more bonkers than I imagined. Looking forward to seeing everyone again soon. Dave

Sevens have this sort of universal popularity / respect. In addition to the brit car guys, you tend to get waves from the bikes, the muscle cars, and the hot rods.

I just registered and will be camping there. I'll probably drive down Friday afternoon and stay until Sunday morning. Looking forward to seeing some faces from last year and meeting some new folks.

That strikes me as a pretty good deal. I'd wager it'd cost 5-6k easy to have it built.

Cool! Can't speak for the gearbox, but I'd guess push down on the lever. As for the illuminated toggle switches (from left to right including the one to the left of the steering wheel) they are probably: Headlights Windshield wipers Windshield washer Heater fan (if equipped) Heated Windshield Parking/Fog Light (if equipped; probably not - this is a European thing) Hazards Brake Check The toggle lever switches will be: Hi-beams (all the way to the left) Hi-beam flash (just to the left of steering wheel) Turn signal (3-pos switch to the right of steering wheel)

Excellent! I used to live in Ann Arbor and would periodically take a blat through Hell (when not frozen over )

Wow! Great to see I wasn't the only one to get out this weekend! I like the notion of blatting Sevens being the first harbinger of Spring. That's fabulous! Skip, it's true I probably don't need to replace the pan immediately as it doesn't seem to be obstructing the pick-up or anything, I guess it would just be piece of mind. It does tempt me to take the opportunity to put in a dry sump.

Wow. It amazes me sometimes who they get for these transplant shows and then are suprised when they don't work out. Adam Carolla and Tanner Foust hardly strike me as the right crew for that kind of show. My choice for a US Top Gear that I think would have worked would have been: Jay Leno: Long shot to get him, of course, but he is leaving the Tonight Show and I bet he'd have had a ball doing it. Tommy Kendall: A loveable motoring smartass if ever there was one. You get a hint of it from Test Drive, but that show is too much of an advertisement for his real personality to come out. Only known by hard core race fans, but I'd wager he'd rapidly earn the fandom of general car nuts on that kind of show. Tim Allen: Hasn't been in the spotlight for a long time, but a familiar face to many who probably would have had a lot of fun with it. Okay, since Leno would be majorly unlikely, you'd probably want your third to be a quasi-straight-man like James May on the Brit version.

Got the Seven fired up today! Due to woeful neglect of the battery (left in car all winter), it took some TLC in the form of topping up the cells and putting a charge on it. Happily, the battery appears to be okay. Went for a brief drive for the purpose of warming up the oil prior to changing it which was fabulous, though of limited duration due to the desire to get the oil change out of the way. However, upon crawling under the car to unscrew the filter I noticed this. Ouch!!!! Didn't happen on today's drive, but I'm not sure when it did. I did have one incident last year where I bottomed the car fairly hard at a big dip in a back road. It was a get out and look for a pool of oil behind the car affair. i guess I must not have looked at the oil pan itself afterward, though. So, I guess a new pan is in order!

Hi Al, Good to see you posting. Glad you're hanging in there with the business. I received my stickers and such no problems. Thanks! Not sure yet about my plans for Carlisle and/or Birmingham, but I hope I see you at one or both. Best regards, Dave

Skip, Best of luck with the surgery and for a speedy recovery. Dave

In my limited experience it *always* feels good to attack something with a die grinder... ...it's reflecting on the consequences afterward that sometimes leads to heartache.

I second this. And in my experience, they can start to make noise before they are obviously (while installed anyway) worn. In 11k miles, I've replaced mine several times. The good news is the parts cost is about 10 bucks and it's a 20-30 minute job.

Skip, Those are pickups for reverse light and parking lamp brackets on some cars. For instance, mine has the reverse light suspended from one of those. Dave

As it happens I may be there for work for 1 or 2 days. Not 100% sure yet, but pretty likely. Edit: I had the good fortune to go to PRI once in Columbus back in 95 or 96 when I was on FSAE. That was a very cool show. On the subject of cool tradeshows, has anyone ever been to Hannover Messe in Germany? I managed to go to that one year too for work. Now *there's* a trade show. It's pretty surreal to wander around a trade show where you're surrounded by crap like giant wind turbine nacelles sitting on the trade show floor (those things are rather large!).

Still looking for a cheap side view mirror fix
xflow7 replied to DB6's topic in General Sevens Discussion
OK. Well my ascii art attempt didn't work at all. Looks like there's some kind of logic in the posting software that automatically deletes multiple spaces. I'll have to try to do a proper drawing / photo tomorrow. -
Still looking for a cheap side view mirror fix

I'll see if I can illustrate with some ASCII art. | \ / | | | | / \ | \ / So, | is the Delrin spacer (McMaster P/N 95647A12) and | and | are the Belleville washers (McMaseter P/N 9713K17). | / \ I used a similar stack up on top of the mirror housing (under the screw/washer that secures it to the top of the stalk). Snug the locking screw up (but not cinched absolutely tight) and you should be good to go. I've run them up to ~90mph and they haven't moved, but remain easily adjustable by hand. I was slightly optimistic with my $5.00 estimate. For 2 mirrors, the parts value is more like ~$8.00, although min. order quantities (12 Belleville washers, 50 Delrin spacers) mean it's really ~$20.00. I have a bunch of the Delrin spacers left so could mail those out to people who are interested. Dave -
Hi David, You asked me for pictures of my clutch cable routing a while back. Finally got around to taking a couple. I hope these help. http://www.usa7s.com/aspnetforum/upload/1343606305_ClutchCable-000001.JPG http://www.usa7s.com/aspnetforum/upload/398326747_ClutchCable-000002.JPG Dave

Still looking for a cheap side view mirror fix

Hi David, I still have the SPA GT mirrors available that I PM'd you about a while back. Here are a couple of pictures. http://www.usa7s.com/aspnetforum/upload/905813533_Mirrors-000001.JPG http://www.usa7s.com/aspnetforum/upload/1745371361_Mirrors-000002.JPG http://www.usa7s.com/aspnetforum/upload/1073849232_Mirrors-000003.JPG I have their little brothers (the formula mirrors) installed on my windscreen stanchion. At the moment, I have them secured by justrunning the middle windscreen bolt through one of the holes on the mirror mounting flange. Believe it or not, this is actually reasonably stable, particularly if you orient the mirror flange so that it's top edge supports itself against the upper side screen hinge. In the future I plan to make a little adapter bracket to lower the mirrors a little. Also, the thing with SPA mirrors is that they are set up so that are adjustable only by loosening and tightening a set screw underneath the flange base. However, I managed to assemble mine with a collection of Belleville washers and delrin shims (a total of about $5 of parts from McMaster-Carr) that allows them to be held by friction and adjusted by hand. Works surprisingly well. PM me if interested in the mirrors. Dave -
I got out for a little while today (maybe 60 miles or so). It was very nice, but with a faint threat of T-storms. happily, nothing materialized.

Drive home last night with out a clutch cable was
xflow7 replied to DB6's topic in General Sevens Discussion
I believe the one I use is the long one. Mine runs from the pedal box forward then loops sort of between the thermostat housing and valve cover and gently bends down and back to go into the bellhousing (I have the 5 spd Ford 'box with separate bell housing) FWIW, the failure location shown in your picture is quite common. Make sure when you fit the new cable that, a) there are no sharp bends in the cable run, and b) that the pedal height is adjusted such that when the pedal is fully depressed the clevis terminal on the cable does not hit the the clutch pedal itself as this puts a bend in the cable right at the joint with the terminal and can cause very premature failure just as in your picture. If by chance Sean doesn't need/want the hood sticks themselves, I might be interested in taking those. Dave

I came here to post about same. A very sad day for the motorsports world losing an icon. Never met him, but heard/read various interviews over the years and was always impressed.
