  1. I solved my Zetec overheating in Southern California with a bigger diameter, higher volume electric fan (from BMW, I think). Randall
  2. You've likely thought of it, but don't forget toggles for the "hidden" functions of the key switch such as fuel pump, ECU power, etc. It's something I have intended to do and not gotten around to it. I also intend to replace the stock square switches, and think the easiest route for that is to make a plinth that covers and stands just a bit proud of the dash surface. Minimal rewiring required. Put an annoying beeper in your turn signal circuit--or replace the switch with a momentary one. Randall
  3. May I suggest you try sitting in a Birkin S3? Same overall dimensions as the Cat S3, but the pedal box has a large adjustment range.
  4. I'd enjoy a tour, but aseparate local meet and drive would be great, too. Randall

    PNW Tour

I drove the Black Hills tour with Gert, and really liked the combined approach. The two week length may seem a bit long, but it did allow people to join and leave as it worked for their personal schedule. I'm not familiar with the roads, so I'm not much help there, but I'll help however I can. Randall
  6. What's going on between the suspension arms? It looks like there is a bent washer, which might indicate a retention pin of some sort through the bolt between the arms. Can you slip off the outer arm and investigate? Randall
  7. Just a guess, but maybe it goes to the dashboard alternator light. If that's the case, it would go on the battery charging terminal of the alternator. Randall
  8. After I nearly lost one (it had worked its way up and nearly fell off), I wrapped zip ties around the hinges. Randall
  9. I haven't been here long enough to know any good roads or things to do. Randall
  10. I'm in. From Port Angeles. Randall
  11. I would do everything I could to show up. Randall
  12. Wet would be nicer than the 36 inches of snow we had on the OlyPen last season. :-) Randall
  13. Have you considered listing it on Bring a Trailer? Randall
  14. I would ditch the head you have. That variable cam thing you have is just a fixed advance at a certain RPM for smog, not performance. Useless complexity. Start with a skimmed head with bigger valves and porting. Add stage two cams and adjustable pulleys. Also throw away the stock ECU and replace it with a fully programmable one. That should get you at least 150 hp at the wheels. Just my opinion, Randall
  15. It's this one.... http://www.usa7s.net/vb/showthread.php?10164-New-car-new-member-Anyone-know-the-car
  16. I, and others, use the Emerald ECU. Holds up to three separate maps, changeable on the fly. Runs open loop or closed loop. Easy to modify. Reasonable price. Randall
  17. Annealing heat treatable aluminum alloys is generally done between 650-825 degrees. Some alloys can be partially annealed in the 400-500 range. It's really alloy dependent, and we rarely know what alloy wheels are made of--hence the rule of thumb to never powder coat aluminum wheels.
  18. I converted my car to Quaife and would never go back or even think of any other solution. It now feels impossible to break a rear wheel free. I dunno how you'd get a Quaife now, though, unless someone had one laying around. Quaife won't do runs of less than ten, and we barely made the group purchase a few years ago. I believe Dick Brink at Texas Motorworks has a conventional LSD that fits in the Birkin. Randall
  19. Give Dick a call. I expect he'd be happy to talk about the car including prior ownership and who built it. He's a nice guy and likes to talk. Randall
  20. If you haven't already, pop over to the California Caterham Club forum and say 'hi.' There are a couple dozen Se7ens in the LA area, and many get together semi-regularly for blats. Most owners would be happy to give you a ride and talk about their cars. Randall
  21. Does it have to be installed, or can you show the inspector a rag and spray bottle of windex? It's not that big a stretch to reach the front of the windshield while in the driver's seat.
  22. The last time I moved a bare chassis, I just lifted it onto my truck's ladder/lumber rack. Moved it about 500 miles that way, without any problems. All the other parts fit easily inside the bed of the truck. Randall
  23. Who were you...Distinguished silver bearded gentleman in a blue Stalker on Lauridsen (Hwy 101) in Port Angeles, yesterday afternoon. Randall
  24. I bought a HF 5 drawer tool cart to store tools in my airplane hanger. It's pretty stout, and does what I got it for. I'd watch for a free shipping deal at HF, if I didn't have a local store. Randall
  25. Be aware that there are several seat options for the Birkin. Among them, comfort ranges from painful to almost luxurious. My 2001 stock seats were horrible, but the replacement "sport" seats are day-long comfortable. Randall
