  2. Oh I feel that pain. I am starting to dial bump steer out of my BMW CSL restoration project. I thought it was toe out but then a quick check told me it was bump steer. I second JohnK's posts as I am using them to think it through on my problem - link was easy to find as i had it bookmarked. http://www.usa7s.net/vb/showthread.php?7989-A-note-on-steering&highlight=bump+steer I found this youtube helpful as I began my journey into curing bump steer:

  4. yes it was 11th down in my list :seeya:
  5. I agree with you Dan. Its roll bar is designed a way I dont like. You have a bench seat with no head protection against the roll bar. The wheels are the narrow snowflakes and the rubber looks to be the average performance stuff. But you have 350hp. There are a bunch of contradictions that make me wonder as to the end aim of the builder. But anyway...short of time this morning so just posting the links. http://www.ebay.com/itm/1962-Replica-Kit-Makes-/322554740408?hash=item4b19c2beb8:g:dGgAAOSwZKBZE-7~&vxp=mtr http://www.ebay.com/itm/LOCOST-7-Project-Needs-Finishing-/272719546793?hash=item3f7f5a09a9:g:c4YAAOSwblZZIczG&vxp=mtr https://minneapolis.craigslist.org/hnp/cto/6159531760.html https://dallas.craigslist.org/dal/cto/6155194142.html https://houston.craigslist.org/cto/6123638854.html https://dallas.craigslist.org/dal/cto/6152179924.html https://sfbay.craigslist.org/nby/cto/6133546134.html https://seattle.craigslist.org/tac/cto/6138667584.html https://pittsburgh.craigslist.org/cto/6164863903.html https://pennstate.craigslist.org/cto/6150013121.html https://hartford.craigslist.org/cto/6151879848.html https://spacecoast.craigslist.org/cto/6179099276.html https://dallas.craigslist.org/dal/cto/6177111801.html https://fortcollins.craigslist.org/cto/6175511002.html https://seattle.craigslist.org/see/cto/6129981146.html https://portland.craigslist.org/wsc/cto/6150612570.html https://atlanta.craigslist.org/atl/cto/6133455231.html https://tampa.craigslist.org/pnl/cto/6138227641.html https://kansascity.craigslist.org/cto/6165344962.html http://www.ebay.com/itm/1972-Lotus-Super-Seven-/272723673834?hash=item3f7f9902ea:g:8RsAAOSwjvJZRk4e&vxp=mtr http://www.ebay.com/itm/1999-Westfield-Lotus-Super-7-Series-3-/162538767763?hash=item25d810c593:g:028AAOSwsXFZMWJk&vxp=mtr
  6. Well....my rule of thumb heading south is: 1) Afternoon rush hour traffic scenario around New York and Philly Garden state parkway south until it hits the Noo Joisey Turnpike. Then follow that south until exit 2 - exit and pick up Rt 322 heading east and follow directions that I posted above. 2) Regular traffic day Pick up NJ Turnpike. Truck lanes usually work best - especially weekends. Follow south to exit 4. At end of exit 4 ramp go right on to Rt 73 west towards Philadelphia. Go 0.5 mile and take I-295 south. Get on I-295 south and sit in middle lane (essential). Follow this when it splits for Walt Whitman bridge and Rt 42/I-295 south. Stay in the same lane. About 0.5 mile further Rt42 split off from I-295 south - follow Rt42. Continue to stay in this lane. Follow Rt 42 east and about a mile down the road Rt55 branches off to the south. Take Rt55 south and follow the earlier directions to Millville. If you stay in the center lane on I-295 then you can just flow I-295 to Rt 42 to Rt 55 without a lane change needed. If the time of day is right then option 2 saves about 15-20 minutes from Option 1. If in doubt just go option one - it easy with a trailer.
  7. Assuming you are heading towards Philly on I-76 heading east then: 1) Take exit 331A to get on to I-476 South 2) Follow it to I-95 then take I-95 heading south 3) About 1-2 miles after that, exit 4 on I-95 South will take you onto Rt 322 East across the Commodore Barry Bridge 4) Follow Rt322 heading east until you reach Rt 55 (a CVS and Dunkin Donuts are landmarks on the right about 0.5 mile before the exit) 5) Follow Rt 55 heading south to Exit 24 of Rt 55 (ignore the signs for NJMP exit 27) 6) At the base of the ramp on Exit 24 take a right onto Rt 49 7) Follow Rt 49 through downtown over the bridge and very soon after the bridge take a left onto Cedar Street (Blinkers Custard is on the corner) 8) At the first traffic light take a left onto South Race Street (also known as Rt 555) 9) Follow past the school (on the right) and take the first right onto Dividing Creek Road 10) GPS address is 8000 Dividing Creek Road (although Google maps sometimes shows it as 1701 Dividing Creek Road) Taking I-476 brings you south and away from central Philadelphia traffic.
  8. No chance. Every other car plus my day job were being worked on. Mustang got a new battery so it is now fighting fit again. CSL electrical issues are making headway. Even the handling issues we are making progress on. Now a starter for the cigarette packet Holden to make it mobile again would be wonderful.

  10. At first I though you wanted a rocket car - NASA, Space-X, Jet Propulsion Labs, etc. Given your automotive style I would expect nothing less! However, you are looking for a Gordon Murray Light Car Company Rocket. Duncan Hamilton has one for sale $120k area I believe In 2014 one was sold out of FL on Hemmings (look for the Bringatrailer write up) asking $100k. However, I guess you want to be cheap and want a replica so have a read of this post: https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?t=1325047 or here http://kitcarlist.com/exoskeleton-kits.html THe closest clone will always be the Brooke R which had a duratec and side by side seating but the look was pure Rocket. http://www.brookecars.com

  12. I think this is the comparison post that Paul referred to - my CSR/SV against the wide version of the Birkin (confusingly termed the "XS"). http://www.usa7s.net/vb/showthread.php?10560-Birkin-XS-side-by-side-comparison-to-a-Caterham-CSR&highlight=Birkin
  13. Which one is yours? :troll: I guess the dak dak engine has more hp? :jester: I should lay off the jokes given the Kubelwagen eventually sired the 911...
  14. This is not really related to getting good audio on our videos of track day/race fun but I thought it was a good spot to lay out this next effort. One thing that has bugged me for a long time is rolling shutter. The CMOS chips used by virtually all the action camera companies is set up to process video line by line (i.e. it rolls through the image over and over) and therefore accentuates the likelihood of getting rolling shutter effect no matter how well you fix a camera to a roll bar (and I use solid metal Manfrotto clamps with very solid Manfrotto ball heads). To get around it I use a higher frame per second setting - 60fps instead of say 30fps. Some cameras are more susceptible to it than others. The Sony FDR-X3000 is a brilliant piece of kit but it gets more vibration affected than say the GoPro Hero 4 black that I also use. The best camera was the Braun Six Zero but my original one died with a rock to its lens. It was different to the other action cameras as it used a CCD chip which has a global shutter instead of a line by line rolling shutter. However, they are impossible to find these days as they are out of production. CCD chips are still found but in very high end professional video cameras (think Red, Black Magic, high end Sony, etc). So I went in another direction - could the anti-shake ("Steady Shot") features on a Sony action camera fixed the vibration or risk of rolling shutter effect? Sadly no - look at the image hunting around trying to focus on the straight ahead. So when I was given the chance to try out a Feiyu FY-WG 3 way gimbal like what they use on aerial drones for video work, I jumped at it. I figured if it made videos of mountain bike riding, running, and drones smooth then think what it could do on track. So I devised a side by side test run at the same time, same session, same car, same driver: Side A The Feiyu FY-WG gimbal with a Hero 4 HD Black running a 1080 resolution at 60fps, mounted using my usual Manfrotto hardware to my little maroon Caterham road sport at a very crowded drivers club event. To avoid any issues with the mic cable I just used the internal mic within the camera body - wind noisy as a result. You can watch in 1080 60fps to see the true quality. Side B The same but without the gimbal. I used my external mic here. You can watch in 1080 60fps to see the true quality. Lesson - The gimbal and steady shit anti shakes do not work. You are better off with solid mounting and some bracing to stop the wind shakes. I could have done better on Side B but it still was a long way ahead of Side A Second lesson - a rock from a car ahead will kill a go pro but not the gimbal as I discovered at the end of this track session. Better the camera instead of my visor I suppose!

  16. Sorry to hear that you cannot make it Jim. We will miss you and Kitcat will have an off-track excursion in your honor. Good to hear Steve. You are betting odds for the polisher award based on your past performance with the mirror finish on your cars! :seeya:
  17. Dont worry Graham - I know what the back of Tom's pickup and trailer look like. He definitely will have one. Kitchen sink too if you need it!

  19. Ben - Do a keyword search on this forum by state/city/town and see what forum member hits come up. You can then PM them and ask if you can see their cars and trial fit them. Most owners on here jump at a chance to show off their cars and take them out for a cruise. So far Taber is probably the closest to you with an SV chassis that I know of. There are a couple of Caterham S3 chassis in Georgia around Atlanta from memory but I would only find them by doing the same site search. There was a Caterham dealer in FL but southern end from memory. Tom (Tbox56) as Mr Birkin USA may know of a Birkin owner near you to check out a car.
  20. Mostly. The CSR chassis is dimensionally identical to the SV chassis and the chassis "box" outline is very much the same. However, when I put my CSR and SV cars side by side you can see that they are very different designs in how they achieve the same chassis dimensions. There are critical design differences around how the front and rear suspension mounts. Lots more triangulation. But when you cover it with ali body panels all of this is hidden and it can pass as an SV without anyone noticing.
  21. And a CSR is the same size as an SV (or S5 as sometimes they have been called) In practical terms the SV/CSR is 4 inches wider than the S3 - 2 inches in each seat well. And 4 inches longer in the cockpit.
  22. Where are you located Ben? I have been having offline discussions with 2 people thinking to sell but looking for feedback on what the market is for their cars. Does it have to be a Caterham? On this forum you still have for sale: $36k (ok just over the budget) throttle body zetec S3 Caterham in michigan $28k Bruce's immaculate condition and maintained crossflow S3 $35k for MichaelD's S3 Caterham Zetec (already pointed out by Mike) and probably others as I go back through the classifieds list and see what has or has not sold.
  23. Ben - Thank you for reporting back here. Thats a bit of a disappointment as it clearly described it as a Caterham in the ad.
  24. Glenn - Look for the link below the photo and quotation from the earlier ad. If you cannot see it then your computer has a problem. The link works for me. If you still cannot see it then to find directly go to Craigslist Rhode Island and look cars for sale under Providence (its a city). The ad is listed with the location of Barrington (its a suburb of Providence). Search by key word of Caterham
  25. Dermot - A quick note to say that a bike helmet is not acceptable for a car track day. The shock absorbing foam is in the wrong spots compared to car helmets so a balaclava won't fix it. NJMP do not accept them at Drivers Club if you are thinking of using them there. Not quite sure exactly where you are in Mary Land but OG Racing is out at Dulles and they are very good with race supplies. I am a firm believer you have to try helmets on to fit properly.
