  1. Ain't that the heart of the problem!!!! :iagree:
  2. Sorry if I am missing your point but no modification is needed unless you are referring to bolting on the roll bar? The little known secret to S1's is that it was designed to go on track as well as the road - the chassis needs no modifications for a roll bar - check your car out for the manufactured mounting points. Standard suspension and set up works just great on track. Superformance just never did anything to make this known to owners - which is good for buyers today.
  3. The S1 is a very capable car on track. Not many people have tried it there so it does not get the reputation it deserves. The chassis has roll bar mounts built in. DaveD on this forum has done 2 bolt in roll bars for S1s for the odd track day. They can be easily installed for the day and then removed afterwards so you are not spooling the looks. I am sure he could share the plan/specs if you PM him. http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a354/mjohnson555/seats/CSR/2015%20Sevens%20Event%20at%20NJMP/8%20IMG_0901_zpsjhqigjeu.jpg Here is a photo on S1Steve's car http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a354/mjohnson555/seats/CSR/2015%20Sevens%20Event%20at%20NJMP/8%20IMG_0901_zpsjhqigjeu.jpg Dave has a different shape on his car that works well http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a354/mjohnson555/seats/CSR/2015%20Sevens%20Event%20at%20NJMP/WSPS-untitled-N.J.M.P.%20Drivers%20Club%20July%204th%20Track%20Day%20%20BBQ%20July%202015-0174_zpsekcwlsij.jpghttp://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a354/mjohnson555/seats/CSR/2015%20Sevens%20Event%20at%20NJMP/WSPS-untitled-N.J.M.P.%20Drivers%20Club%20July%204th%20Track%20Day%20%20BBQ%20July%202015-0174_zpsekcwlsij.jpg

  6. Oops too slow. For the record here are a few threads on the topic and making the Sterling Excel immobilizer work better. http://213-04.com/t.asp?id=224506 http://213-04.com/t.asp?id=221984 http://213-04.com/t.asp?id=237160 Consensus fix seems to be unwind the aerial around the steering column/barrel to allow the immobilizer fob touch the end of it.
  7. Its turning up tomorrow - your wife texted and said you were needed for chores.
  8. Yes that red Audi ran out of brakes behind me and I ended up spinning off track trying to avoid being hit as he plowed off track next to me. He said in the pits later that his Audi could out brake anything else and that it was slower traffic that was causing his brake fade - go figure! That was the closest I have come to being hit in a Seven. He was a big reason why Tom and I wanted seven only track days after that.
  9. Hi Ron Hope you are doing well? Just to check, a bob starter is some type of key fob thing which you press a button to either immobilize or de-immobilize the ignition system? Or is it a remote starter? I am trying to understand whether its the immobilizer that is giving trouble or if it is the actual key ignition system itself. If it is the immobilizer key fob you wish to remove then that is not going to be solved by what Tom has suggested as we need to find the immobilizer box and remove it from the wiring. Is there any brand on that key fob? Have you tried replacing the battery inside? There is a lot of information on blatchat about this topic but we need a little more information from you to clarify. Cheers mike

  12. Baby steps Bill, just baby steps! :seeya:
  13. I agree with the pre-lit discussion above - I used pre-lit because any other description seems wrong. It seems to be pre-lit in look but... its wrong year and it definitely does not look post-lit. So I am confused. The options that I think are most likely are 1) the year is wrong or 2) there was a production run post-lit but before the shift to fiberglass bodies that used up all the old parts - is this car one of thus lot? I think Johnch told me about these?, or 3) someone spent a lot of time and money converting a post-lit car into something resembling a pre-lit car.
  14. Kitcat - Its been a long time since I saw an older Caterham go for under $20k ($19k driver car at Dick Brink's in 2007/8 area or the S&S sale of a mechanically ok but aesthetically beaten up SCCA car at $13k in 2012?). If this car were a Caterham in the condition as the Robin Hood presented it would be $25k or higher easily. The 80s red crossflow Caterham at Kampala/Sonoma that has been bouncing on and off market for the last 2 years at $24/25k could have sold at $21/22k a few times but it is in driver condition whereas the Robin Hood is presented very well. I think that is the best floor in the market right now for a Caterham. Well after reading that spectacular thread on the Road & Track article which has seen some old antagonists come flying out of the woodwork with handbags drawn, I am in a good mood right now. Nothing like a good food fight to begin the morning. Might as well list the Robin Hood again - this seller needs all the luck he can get plus a wood duck... http://www.ebay.com/itm/Lotus-Super-Seven-super-seven-/262249673456?forcerrptr=true&hash=item3d0f4c72f0:g:ZdEAAOSwqYBWntwk&item=262249673456 1972 Lotus 7 S4 in black. 15. oh wow! I have not seen this much excitement on the forum since the infamous Simon Cowell thread! Tom You make a good point with that hardy soul, Ross who is famous for his drives. I would also bring up JLumba's epic drive from NYC to Juneau, Alaska in late March in my ex-yellow SV. Only a half hood to provide cover from the all seasons weather on that trip. Any Alaska Caterham owner deserves a gold medal for their fortitude. BruceBe :iagree: I love your comment! Mopho :chillpill: I have done my fair share of long distance (300m+) drives in sevens and still do them - I don't think you have any grounds to criticize me. And often I do it without doors as I use the Caterham perspex wind wings that I modified so that they actually work. Having owned 6 Caterham/Lotus sevens on and off over 25 years and a current owner of 2 Caterhams I think I have some credibility to make critical observations, although not as much as Ross Robbins' mentioned by Tom above. That does not take away from Al's achievement of his 'drive of insanity' in Bessie which I am hugely impressed with (plus I love how he has lovingly restored that car). Travis You get big kudos for directly coming into the 'lion's den' to face the vocal critics. We have all taken pot shots against you - fair or unfair as the case may be. To balance the equation, can we help you write a follow up article that showcases the other positive attributes of the Caterham? If you want to come to Millville NJ on the July 4th long weekend, I would lend you one of my Caterhams to join the sevens group at the annual HPDE weekend. I think that would put a different perspective on the car in something closer to its natural habitat. I am open to other suggestions you may have that could make a follow up article work for you.
  16. Does anyone here use FacePlant? Can they post a link on the R&T article back to this thread for the journalist to get a fair rating of his article?
  17. While I am not a fan of Hillbank's strategic approach towards Caterham in the US, even I give them a break here. Honestly, who would have thought that Road & Track employ a motoring journalist that needs a testosterone enhancement in the form of some balls. He should have stayed reviewing fashion shows in New York City. Are all of the Road & Track journalists this weak? I suppose Car & Driver are just as bad?
  18. I suspect there is a touch of subtle humor in your response Taber as the seller is confused. Robin Hood cars was created in 1984 and started making seven replicas in 1987. Lotus had long stopped selling the seven by then having sold the rights to the Nearn Family doing business as Caterham Cars in the early 70s. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robin_Hood_Engineering There are many observations I could make but there is no point being bitchy this morning. The buy it now price of $49k does raise eyebrows - that would be a world record price as Robin Hood's don't go for that price in the UK. In fact I think you could probably buy, ship and import 4 Robin Hood's for the same money as this single one. So to the seller - good luck with the sale!
  19. Reminds me of Stalker #85.... :cooldude: except the owner does not smell as good... :svengo:
  20. They all look like show ponies. They need a dirty grungy thing to turn up - Shane - oh and his stalker of course.
  21. Lotus 7 S4 in dark green with usual yellow trim. Rear wings have been widened and I think improves on the original style. It also is the first seven that I have seen with a stereo amp and what looks suspiciously like a small sub woofer? Bidding is at $20k with a BIN of $29900. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Lotus-Super-Seven-Twin-Cam-/331754547076?forcerrptr=true&hash=item4d3e1ca784:g:4YUAAOSwX~dWl~0g&item=331754547076 Longstanding visitor to this thread over at least 2 years. 1984 Caterham seven in all red. Current ad missing the price but I believe it is $19950? http://tulsa.craigslist.org/cto/5382954449.html Dutton B+. 22. And the answer for Dave is here: http://www.njmp.com/facility-rentals-and-amenities/#Camping Don't believe the above - you can make camping arrangements as you arrive. Now I don't recall anyone paying for camping in the past (maybe they should have?) and no one chased them up but they did charge for electricity supply through the boxes in the pit paddock. Mario, Michael D and someone else camped there before. You could set up 1 row back in the pits from where we usually set up or run the electric line from the box to our usual set up point. Showers are at the clubhouse (pool change rooms) or at the officers club at Thunderbolt. Another option is to set the RV up in the parking lot of my garage and run the electric under my garage door to power your RV. That is condo association land and I think we can allow that!
  23. Impeccable taste? Steve? :bs: His yellow Caterham had the Pep Boys mag wheels on them (UK translation: they were "chav") - hideous! :ack:
  24. I suspect that is a straight through exhaust. I would be baffled if it is not. And yes the stuck on badges at the rear were what triggered my memory along with the pool ball gear knob. Still nothing wrong with buying a car needing a bit of work if the price is right. A silver painted car is actually far better than bare ali since a nice wash and polish of paint is far easier than a full ali polish exercise.
  25. It looks like the Birkin that was at Ragtops & Roadsters in PA for a period of time but in obviously not as well looked after condition? Their website does not show the sold cars any more so I cannot prove my theory. If it needs a lot of fettling then you have to ask if it is worth it at that price? Maybe not as replacing rusty parts can be pricey.
