  1. I love the photo of the dog with his "doggles" on!
  2. I have heated armrest in my CSR plus column stalks for wipers and indicators. I even have those nifty dash ball vents to aim nice warm air at the passenger. An I am still faster than Kitcat's zetec! :jester:
  3. To review the track please see the following post 34 to 37 in the link: http://www.usa7s.net/vb/showthread.php?10558-2015-East-Coast-Sevens-Event-Photo-Thread&p=95446#post95446
  4. A save the date thread for the 2016 East Coast Sevens HPDE and Social Event has been posted on the North East section of this forum but it also applies to those in the Mid Atlantic States. Please refer the link to read it. http://www.usa7s.net/vb/showthread.php?10951-Save-the-Date-2016-East-Coast-Sevens-HPDE-and-Social-Event-in-Millville-NJ
  5. This is a Save The Date email so you can put placeholders in your calendars. For 2016, we will again be holding the event on July 4 long weekend, generously hosted by NJMP Drivers Club. A summary follows below and a more detailed organization outline will follow closer to the date. Friday July 1 - Arrive in the afternoon and set up. If early and if there is demand we could organize a karting event that afternoon. Our current plan subject to confirmation is a casual outside BBQ pool party at the NJMP clubhouse. Saturday July 2 - HPDE with Drivers Club on the Lightning Circuit. Breakfast, lunch and all refreshments included for paid up drivers and visitors. Evening dinner reception with other Drivers Club members at the home of NJMP track founder and all around good guy, Don Fauerbach. Sunday July 3 - HPDE with Drivers Club on the Lightning Circuit. Breakfast, lunch and refreshments included. For those staying over we are planning a dinner in the Breighton Room at the NJMP Clubhouse. Monday July 4 - Option for some karting competition before heading home. Feedback from participants will help us settle when it is best to hold the karting competition. We will be running the Lightning Circuit again as Thunderbolt is booked thanks to a longstanding hire arrangement. The Lightning Circuit is a fast little momentum circuit, well suited to our cars with a nice variety of corners and elevation changes and of course the bowl which is great fun to play with. This can be a frustrating track if you are out there with the bigger road cars like Corvettes, Mustangs or Porkers as they heavily brake in 2 areas of the track where a seven can sail through. However, we don't have to worry about that as having a sevens only run group means even the slowest CrossFlow is very quick through every corner and there are plenty of passing opportunities. Despite the HP disparity the past HPDE events flowed really well - so much so it really did not feel like there were many people out on track at all. All marques of sevens are welcomed to attend - Lotus 7, Caterham, Birkin, Locost, Brunton Stalker, S1, Westfield, etc. We will again set up a private registration page on Motorsportreg.com for signing up and paying for the Saturday dinner, visitors, etc., but don't expect this until say around May this year. NJMP does insist on vetting driver capabilities as this is an event they organize and are responsible for. They have a strong belief in safety which is to be commended. Drivers who have previously driven with this event will be evaluated based on their past performance. Drivers who are new to the event will be required to submit a driving resume for evaluation. This will be a sevens only HPDE run group session. To make it this way we have to compromise run group rules. It will be with passing only on straights with a point by. No passing in corners or braking zones. No passengers on track other than for Drivers Club accredited instructors. Usual safety gear rules apply - in date helmets, long pants, closed toe shoes, arm restraints, in date belts, head below roll bar level, car freshly serviced, etc. This is not a race - it is a HPDE event. Those wanting to come here and set lap records should find another event as the aim is to enjoy the dynamic abilities of our sevens in a safe environment. Full safety gear requirements will follow in a later update. Like last year we will have access to some instructors who are present as part of the day. Many of these instructors have driven and been passengers in sevens and know our cars well. They are very experienced and even if they do not accompany you out on track they will spend the time talking best lines on the track map in the pit building - definitely worth it for that. NJMP is located in Millville, in southern NJ, about an hour east of Philadelphia and 2.5 hours south of New York City. It is easily reached off I-95. There are a variety of accommodation options available. NJMP has pit suites (comfortable motel units on the NJMP property) or luxury villa accommodation over on the Thunderbolt circuit. Millville has a lot of hotel options - Fairfield Inn, Holiday Inn, Days Inn, Quality Inn, Hampton Inn, Ramada, etc. This is not just a driving event but also a social event. Last year we had quite a few spouses present and enjoying the atmosphere and the evenings. We would love to welcome them back. There are a number of options to explore off-track if watching cars is not exciting during the day. The beach is a short drive from Millville. Cape Elizabeth down the Jersey Shore is well worth a visit. Atlantic City is 45 minutes drive away. There are a number of local wineries in the area offering tastings. The NJMP Clubhouse has a tennis court and swimming pool with full change room facilities Costs are not yet finalized but will be similar to last year based on current estimates (say $200 per day for HPDE, $60pp for karting, $40pp for Saturday night dinner/drinks inclusive, $30pp for day visitors to cover insurance, food, refreshments and the possibility of accompanying an instructor on track in a seven subject to availability). Some photos from last year to get you in the mood! http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a354/mjohnson555/seats/CSR/2015%20Sevens%20Event%20at%20NJMP/WSPS-untitled-N.J.M.P.%20Drivers%20Club%20July%204th%20Track%20Day%20%20BBQ%20July%202015-0002_zps47g2huhc.jpg http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a354/mjohnson555/seats/CSR/2015%20Sevens%20Event%20at%20NJMP/WSPS-untitled-N.J.M.P.%20Drivers%20Club%20July%204th%20Track%20Day%20%20BBQ%20July%202015-0153_zpskr6cszra.jpg http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a354/mjohnson555/seats/CSR/2015%20Sevens%20Event%20at%20NJMP/WSPS-untitled-N.J.M.P.%20Drivers%20Club%20July%204th%20Track%20Day%20%20BBQ%20July%202015-0156_zpsvjlqwvth.jpg http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a354/mjohnson555/seats/CSR/2015%20Sevens%20Event%20at%20NJMP/23%20WSPS-untitled-N.J.M.P.%20Drivers%20Club%20July%204th%20Track%20Day%20amp%20BBQ%20July%202015-0001_zpsbxttaxrc.jpg Tom and I are looking forward to seeing you again in July 2016.
  6. Or me.... Then you need a bigger garage... :ack: Just remember posts are like age - 3000 is just a number. Grow older disgracefully. Works for me!
  7. Did you miss me? :seeya: Tod's S4 is listed again. I have seen this car and it is a very good driver with the rare hardtop so you could drive it all year round without freezing your nipples off. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Lotus-Super-Seven-S4-/291652836454?forcerrptr=true&hash=item43e7dd1c66:g:e98AAOSwu-BWQ1KH&item=291652836454 Dick Brink has a Zetec engine for sale that was extracted from a Birkin. He says it has 300hp with a turbocharger....so who had a turbocharged Birkin? http://www.ebay.com/itm/Ford-Zetec-Engine-Racing-specs-/262201290662?hash=item3d0c6a2fa6:g:7IAAAOSwYHxWJ-AA&vxp=mtr I do like how the box in the photo next to the engine is labeled "Diapers". Locost for sale in TX Excellent! Sounds promising already! I like this guy! Asking $14000. The Arch chassis replica is still out there in Craigslist if you want to see the ad again...and again....and again.... Its come down another $50 in price. Today while searching for Birkin's, thanks to Apple autocorrect I found something new on craigslist - A merkin. I never heard of wigs for that part of a lady before. Google at your risk. The purple Westfield in KS is still available at $19950. Don't know why this has not sold as it is a solid spec and looks to be in decent condition - I guess potential buyers don't like purple? http://tulsa.craigslist.org/cto/5382954449.html SCCA Solo race car project (B mod) based on a Lotus 7 Asking $5000 http://charleston.craigslist.org/cto/5363729542.html Locost project in KS asking $7000 http://kansascity.craigslist.org/cto/5360745090.html Birkin in PA for $22500 Looks interesting and worth a closer look. http://www.hemmings.com/classifieds/cars-for-sale/birkin/s3/1800848.html Classiccar.com has a few ads of interest http://classiccars.com/listings/view/744510/1961-lotus-seven-for-sale-in-san-diego-california-92102 http://classiccars.com/listings/view/715384/1969-lotus-seven-for-sale-in-spokane-washington-99208 http://classiccars.com/listings/view/751217/1965-lotus-super-seven-for-sale-in-washington-missouri-63090 http://classiccars.com/listings/view/731934/1972-lotus-super-seven-for-sale-in-lutz-florida-33559 http://classiccars.com/listings/view/726100/1967-lotus-super-seven-for-sale-in-o-fallon-illinois-62269 Must be a pre-lit Westfield? http://classiccars.com/listings/view/743191/1986-lotus-westfield-7-for-sale-in-mooresville-north-carolina-28117 Lemmings has a few ads too http://www.hemmings.com/classifieds/cars-for-sale/caterham/unspecified/1775640.html And one other Birkin http://www.wirewheel.com/2003-Birkin-1967-Lotus-7-for-sale.html
  8. Jesse - Do they still run the autocross on the sloping parking lot on Commercial Street/Center Street in downtown Portland? Or have they found somewhere more spacious to run it? I have memories of sharing a Miata for a day auto crossing on that parking lot in 1997 when I used to live in Portland.
  9. Hardly....the knuckles drag a lot as is! :jester: Happy New Year Shane!
  10. For those who missed Kitcat's reference, here is a link: http://bringatrailer.com/2015/12/30/bring-a-boardroom-elfin-sports-cars-for-sale/ A very storied and successful manufacturer of race cars in Australia and New Zealand. I raced an Elfin Formula Vee early in my driving history. The wikipedia link will give you their history and photos of their various models over the years. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elfin_Sports_Cars My favorite is the Mallala - very Lotus like. http://www.sdrc.qld.gov.au/Images/UserUploadedImages/390/Leyburn%20Sprints%20-%20Elfin%20Mallala.JPG I also had the opportunity to drive the Australian Formula 1 car (actually Formula 5000 class) shown on that link with Ansett sponsorship - one of the most terrifying cars I have ever driven - F1 chassis from the 1970s but with 50-75% more power. I doubt the business can be resurrected. They have not been producing cars for a few years. The owner is a deceased estate although there were professional managers running the business. You are working to produce specialist cars in an economy with 24 million people only although if you add New Zealand into the mix then that brings another couple of million people and 45 million sheep. If it is very difficult to make a specialist car manufacturer work in the US with the population of 300million odd people then imagine the difficulty in Australia. The value left is the name, support for parts, and maybe 1-2 of the nicer models. It will likely be taken over by a rival manufacturer who can then spread the costs over a bigger production run. So I will happily stand aside for other potential purchasers. I am in Sydney for another day so could happily fly to Melbourne to do a pre-purchase inspection for you and can recommend a good attorney for the paperwork.
  11. Post 18 in this thread says it was sold.
  12. Oops...be careful there. The Birkin is located in South Africa. That would present a challenging shipping and importation option. I often wonder if sellers realize they are listing an item for sale on the wrong country Ebay sometimes?
  13. Shane - read post 784...the end of it. I have to admit I misread the image you pasted above. I was expecting something else in the morning for a moment there! :ack:
  14. ' True - it was 13 Caterhams. It was 20 sevens of which 13 were Caterham, 2 Birkins, 1 Stalker, 1 Locost, 2 S1s, 1 L7. I admit I am jealous - my garage is not big enough! I only fitted 6 sevens in my garage (one is hiding next to the Holden) I need to expand it to keep up with Bruce! http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a354/mjohnson555/seats/CSR/2015%20Sevens%20Event%20at%20NJMP/21%20IMG_0892_zpsltuzk9lk.jpg
  15. Thats a new seven replica brand I had not heard of before. Rather than hijack someones thread, it would be better for you to publicize your new car with a separate post, details, photos, etc and full contact details as I am sure I am not the only one who has not heard of the Wharton Roadster before. That would give it more prominent viewing than tacked on the end of this thread.
  16. What I have done in that situation since the build plate does not specify a date is to get factory documentation of build date. For a 1975 BMW I had the BMW Classic people issue a certificate of build which was used as import evidence of 25+ years of age along with the VIN chassis plate. The Lotus 7 Club UK will do the same for Caterhams based on the VIN. One trick about Caterham VINs is that the number does contain its build date (at least post 1990). Getting a certificate of this from Caterham or the club would make for a good evidence package for your import. http://www.lotus7.club/guides/frequently-asked-questions/chassis-numbers-what-do-they-mean I have never used a registration document as evidence for a build date. I am sure you could but why wait until then.
  17. Bill's explanation is right. The one variation I will mention is that a build date stamped on the car as an identification date will generally always trump the MSO/MCO documentation. So the best authoritative documentation of build date will always be the chassis plate/stamping for the purposes of calculating the 25 year age. Of course if there is a conflict between the sources then be prepared for an import colonoscopy. For calculating the 25 year, if the build date specifies a year then Jan 1 of the 25th anniversary qualifies as import date. If a month is specified on the chassis plate (e.g. like Australian cars) then you need to wait to the anniversary of that month.
  18. To shut up whiny Xcarguy, here is a Stalker. And its the nicest Stalker I have seen this year. Originally for sale on race-cars.com at something like $4X,000, then had a pass in at Mecum auction, it is now on Fleabay at $29500 or best offer. And there are 20 of you watching the auction and not one of you posted here....so who is shopping for Christmas? I like its color scheme - a nice dark blue with white. The deep dish American Racing Wheels suit it beautifully. It has the 3.8L V6 supercharged. Lots of neat details are obvious that the build looks like a quality one. The photos are fuzzy which is sucky because it stops you from checking out some of those details. And it comes with a nice newish 2006 enclosed trailer. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Lotus-Other-Replica-/252206568066?forcerrptr=true&hash=item3ab8aed282:g:NYcAAOSwbdpWaJBT&item=252206568066 To continue keeping the whining from Houston at a minimum (hello Xcarguy...) I have another Stalker. And this is the "nicest ever built" or so the ad tells me. Probably true for TX ones anyway... I like how it is adult owned. Makes a change from the other Stalker owners who are basically toddlers. Its another well done car. It has one of Mario's special hand made nose cone grills. Good details despite the subpar photography. Who makes the wheels on this car? I would not mind a set for the Holden... No reserve auction. Opening bid at $21k with no bids and 1 day 17 hours to run. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Lotus-Super-Seven-/191755290097?forcerrptr=true&hash=item2ca58185f1:g:rXIAAOSwcBhWX1FY&item=191755290097 Barney the Westfield in Tulsa OK is back this week asking $19950 http://tulsa.craigslist.org/cto/5326804103.html Dutton B+ project back again. Asking $43900 http://jacksonville.craigslist.org/cto/5323168733.html All the Hemmings ads are still live from last week but the Hemmings format means the ads are dated and the cars could be no longer for sale. 1965 Lotus 7. Starting Thursday night I am traveling until Jan 10 which may make it difficult to run the search scripts. SO go hunting yourselves. Wishing a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to All!
  19. Its ok Suave, your Daddy says he won't put mistletoe over your head.....until Christmas Eve.... Merry Christmas everyone. May Santa bring you lots of tools, man toys, beer credits, driving skills (Xcarguy), etc. this year.
  20. Ipad? I have never known him to use his finger that way before? And that was my 3000th post - do I get a case of beer, nice bottle of wine or cider, or even a good port as a reward?
  21. Yes completely barmy. Now you know how stupid the governments can be....then again you are from the UK so you have had your fair share too. I think Sean mentioned it above - importation are Federal rules. Registration to drive on the roads are state rules. So using my 2002 Caterham SV as an example, Caterham USA got a nice container shipped to them full of disassembled parts bits and bobs representing a Caterham kit, ready to build. Once the container arrived at the workshop in Denver, they sourced a 2L Zetec and a Ford T-9 gearbox independently of the delivery from Caterham. Then they put it all together. Once complete and working they took it down to the Colorado Department of Moter Vehickles (DMV) and paid their state sales tax, registration fees, were issued a State VIN number (since they did not like the Caterham supplied one) and in Colorado at least were registered as a 1967 Lotus 7 as Colorado at the time had rules that replicas were titled as the year/make/model of the car being replicated. Then it got issued a title (State document demonstrating proof of ownership - is it a V5 in the UK?) and registration (proof of permission to drive that car on the road) documents. And off into the sunset it drives until it found me much later in life.
  22. Trykeman had a win - car was over 25 years old and he states in a post in this thread he was picking his car up which he would not have done had they not cleared him. The digression into the other guy mid-thread is an unknown.
  23. In case Paul goes looking for some sketchy reptile, I will save him some time and post a link to the relevant thread posts that are pertinent http://www.usa7s.net/vb/showthread.php?10365-1999-Birkin-S3-(Last-5-of-build)/page2&highlight=import And despite what Bill (MrMustang) said above, I bet there would be some market for LHD (converted from RHD) sevens if the spec/price were right. I am not sure it would be a big market compared with the UK but there would always be someone who just falls for a particular car.
  24. Hi Jude, Good to see the old girl is going well. Her record for lowest temp driving is 12 degrees. I had to drive it from Jersey City to Morristown NJ for a speciality emissions testing in mid-January 2011. I drove it exactly as you did - side doors but no roof. Luckily no snow and no salt/de-icer on the roads. Geez it hurt from the cold! Stay warm! mike :auto:
