Anyone know this Donkervoort for sale cheap?
Croc replied to mfast's topic in General Sevens Discussion
Looks genuine from the limited photos available. The dealer (Park Place) has sold Caterhams before. The Donky looks to have a Ford BD engine which makes it quite valuable for that alone (if it is in good shape and not needing a rebuild). Ali nosecone. I guess the price is low because it is viewed as an orphan by the market. -
The car has to enter the country as a kit. Engine spec and gearbox would be separate sourced but otherwise same as the UK spec version. You would then put it together yourself or have someone do it for you. There is no reason why you could not have a RHD version - many states do not prevent you from registering a RHD car and on a clockwise track it makes perfect sense.

If you need Soft Bits for Sevens you need to call them directly. Their email response times are not good. Not idea when you consider the time difference/disadvantage we are dealing with.

Its the good, the bad and the ugly! No idea but I wish he would quit leaning on my car! :toetap05: You can see the red light of frustration between the legs? or is that something else....

I have definitely used duct tape/race tape to stitch a car back together for a track and road use. It was only temporary mind you...I always ended up making more permanent repairs eventually. The best duct tape repair was the one carried out on Taber's Caterham during the Grizzly Bear Blat after he kissed a bear at speed. It really was a work of art and can be seen in that photo thread kindly posted by Skip.

Very interesting way of describing. I am not artistic so I do not think that way. I am trying to record a time for memory for a group of people to show the fun we had. Given not all like music but everyone likes seeing themselves and my music tastes are rather eclectic then the safe way is with engine noise with a theme to make it fun. Italian Job (original 70s version) was an inspired choice in hindsight. Glen - you would always be welcome. If we forget to invite then jog Tom or I and we will include you. Carolyn is keen for us to do something with a members day - possibly the open wheeler group. We like the idea of going back to SCDA as they ran a better event than Trackdaze but need to accommodate those who can only reliably escape weekends. The debate for next year has started. I may even have a clubhouse by then! By the way - thumbs up for being a top dad with your son and making a day like this!

so.....the left to right variance (F to F and R to R) was 100 grams each and each wheel was balanced vertically if not laterally (on that wheel)? and that would be explained through Lightning Circuit being a clockwise running circuit. so far so good.... But why would that cause vibration? Vibration arises from weight imbalance reacting to centrifugal force and normally rubber is evenly distributed around the rim of the wheel? I think of the example of a L/R staggered set up for a oval course where tires can be shaved to give a cutoff "cone" profile to fit the banking - those cars do not have wheel vibrations? What am I missing from this new piece of evidence to explain the vibration?

Jeff - Did you corner weight for 1 driver or driver/passenger?

True there looks to be malware on the site itself (and I am not going there to confirm) but you also can get the contact details by googling and the google search page will show the business contact details and map on the right of the screen. They warn you not to go to the website - a warning is stopping you before you put your computer in danger. Googling a name cannot give your PC a virus - that is like contracting a sexually transmitted disease while looking at a porno magazine. You can also get the contact details without going to a business website by looking up: - yahoo - manta - white pages - yellow pages It also used to be listed on the Caterham USA site at one point. Each of these ways does not require you to go to the actual website which is what is all screwy right now.
-
Tom - you are describing the exact same symptoms I had on the sevens track day when I lost the wheel weight off the rear right. It may only have been 10 grams or so but it made a hell of a vibration without it!
-
Some very good drivers on this forum (Kitcat, Sabbot, Blubarisax, errr....me... many times) have got that corner wrong in the past  So it understandable and perfectly acceptable Still I was surprised to see it happen in the introductory group? That is a first for me to see. Yeah, while you have been off playing go karts, the little yellow devil has got rather quick over the last year with his fresh 20 inch wide slicks and lots of Caterhams to give him a little competition to improve. :seeya: Top video as always! One of these days I will get you to give me a lesson in your editing skills!

You can get the details by googling and not going to the website Mid-Atlantic Caterham Address: 2317 N Dupont Hwy, New Castle, DE 19720 Phone:(302) 652-7750

Give George Alderman a phone call if you want him - he's a really nice guy. George is not an internet type of guy anyway and I doubt the website has been updated in years.

Hell I want more than one day! Sadly this date conflicts with work meetings in California. Work pays for my track sins so it wins this conflict!

And for a moment I thought you were referring to me! Fortunately not, so yes she is a good looking car - a very good looking car! The price looks high for what she may be though - a later reconstruct. The ad is (deliberately?) vague on what happened - a Series 2 that was written off, a replacement series 1 chassis from Arch Motors to rebuild it into a series 1? So you really get a stunning looking HiCost Seven when all is said and done? This begs another question - a UK car being sold on Ebay US. Its not an original car so how do you import it to the US? Technically a re-chassis-ed car (which has lost the original chassis number) like this is a new car and not a restored old car under the import rules and needs to have airbags, crash testing, emissions, etc based on the recent replacement year of the chassis unless the Arch replacement chassis is 25+ years old. I guess it is buyer beware on the paperwork trail for this car. Very interesting find - I like starting the morning with car ads like these!

Link worked like a charm for me? I was a little shocked to see the bear incident with Taber and Joan, fortunately with them emerging safely from what could have been a very nasty meeting. I was even more impressed it took only 2 hours to resurrect the seven so it could continue - top work! If the dates had aligned differently I would have joined you. The photos looked great and I could recognize much of the spots where you were from my previous trips to that part of the world. Kudos to Terry for pushing the idea and making it happen.

Would you mind? I am two beers short of a brewery!

That looks pretty good and despite my bad experiences with the same Olympus mic you got yours to work well. Neat track - nicely suited to sevens as there is not too much straight for top end speed and some good corners that suit a nimble car.
-
I think you have nailed it - thats what it should sound like. A bit of clunky metal on the gear change - a bit like the Ferrari metal gear gate sound? I assume that is the linkages I am hearing? Also at the 3.30 mark you can hear just one spot where the mic got overwhelmed by the sound and distorted - that is pretty good. Next test will be to see how well it works on a track as the wind noise will appear there if anywhere, along with the distortion from the greater sound loads.
-
If it were a little closer in distance I would seriously consider the track as an option. Great layout and history....it definitely is on my list to try one day. What seven are you constructing Berg?
-
Another top video Glen - one day I will have your skills!

I will come at it from the other direction. 1-2 weeks a month means you will likely be away a third to half a year living out of a mediocre hotel somewhere, lining up with with unwashed masses to get through security at some forgotten airport, waiting for a plane to not arrive on time or depart on time and then the tedium of sitting through a long flight with a sore ass crowded in like sardines in a can next to some 400 pound guy with the worst body odor that makes you want to retch, all the time desperately missing the kids and wife and your own bed to sleep in. I fly anywhere from 110,000 to 150,000 miles a year globally for business and family and have done so since the 1990s. I am lucky enough to fly at the pointy end every time. I have top tier status in air, hotel, rental car programs and I am fast tracked everywhere. I know flight attendants by name on United airlines and they know me by name and we greet as friends. I even get private jet travel occasionally. I can say with experience - work travel sucks. You waste so much time, get so frustrated, and come away exhausted and dirty. I will still travel as I have close family 10,000 miles away and there are lots of destinations in the world I want to see personally and they are worth making the sacrifice for but I could quite happily drop the 80-90,000 work air miles each year. It would want to be a really good financial offer (think 75-100%+) before you sign up to an 8 year commitment and who knows if you will really be able to early retire in 8 years thanks to our dysfunctional global investment markets and economies. The guys above are right, value the family and your sanity.

Wheel Alignment for Radial Slicks on Track Caterham
Croc replied to blubarisax's topic in General Tech
Karl - set up on a customized Caterham is not going to be found in the Caterham manual. I would start with a good corner weight. Make sure they set it for a single driver - I thought mine was until I set my fastest laps tag teaming with JeffH with a passenger. For the alignment you are running a similar wheel and shock set up to Joachim? Why not email him and see what he is running as a starting point and use that as a base. I have never set up a car without trying it and tweaking a little further. As for RH and LH tracks, yes in Nascar or competition, yes you do this. But for us running at a handful of tracks, I would go for a universal set up. Also NJMP has plans for modifying things to allow the track to be run both directions - maybe a few years down the track. -
Did you know that there are no man-eating sharks in the Bora Bora lagoon? Probably because a croc has been lurking there! :jester: Tom - your wife has an issue. We had 17-19kg (38-40lb) bags each. And we have plenty of stuff. Tell her a light cardigan or jackets is a wise inclusion for evenings. flip flops are the only footwear needed. I have been going to dinner in shorts and polo shirt and reef sandals. The rest of you gentlemen - just remember - grow old disgracefully! :cooldude:

Nonsense Michael - lots to do. Tested my go pro underwater with different color filters to see which produced the most accurate colors. Also got told off for underwater filming some lady's bikini bottom (ok....I needed something to test focus on with the go pro). Lazed in a lounge chair asleep with many drinks by the lagoon. Tomorrow I have a helicopter ride over Bora Bora booked plus will be snorkeling from my overwater bungalow. On Wednesday, Tom is buying me lots of drinks when he turns up in Moorea and I fly over there! Waverunner exploration on Thursday. I am so not bored.:cooldude:
