  1. Is this on the chassis or the engine block? Samcor was the Ford South African joint venture in the 1980s. Ford eventually sold out but Samcor still exists today and I vaguely recall produced crossflow engines up until the early/mid 2000s for Formula Ford competition. It should be either a 1600/1700cc and there should be a stamping of 711 somewhere on the block as well.
  2. Like $15+ more They are so competitive - always trying to catch up to Caterham!
  3. That owner exhibits good taste and must be a friendly type of chap - there is a USA7s sticker on the rear roll bar! Is it me or would that roll bar be suitable as scaffolding for a 30 story building? Seems high
  4. Hey, if you are volunteering it saves me any impolite language! :jester: Just kidding - we are fairly gentlemanly on this site in spite of women never making an appearance!
  5. Nice looking Locost 7 race car for sale on the Grassroots Motorsport Forum. Quite an appealing package of Duratec, 5 speed Miata box, torsen diff, red and ali. Asking $15k in PA http://grassrootsmotorsports.com/forum/open-classifieds/locost-7-for-sale/89812/page1/
  6. John - They say power corrupts and absolute power is actually pretty neat. I love it! I would have done the same! Hi Jesse - Welcome to the forum! I used to live in Portland in the Old Port downtown and I get back there frequently to see friends. You have a great state in which to enjoy a seven in the 6 weeks that is known as "summer". You will find all of us quite ready to help you spend money on a seven, upgrades, etc! :seeya:
  7. Once you have laid them they don't go back in?
  8. Just use a raw egg or three. What could go wrong? :iamwithstupid:
  9. From when I did my CSR shake down runs in Denver a few years back, I will say that Skip's club group was very inclusive - great bunch of people. If any group can avoid the snobbery they can. Its probably just an East Coast thing anyway Gee do I remember this. Brand new car, unfamiliar roads and the group just went hyperspace on me at warp 100+! Absolutely brilliant roads. One day I want to ship a seven back out there to try the roads in depth. Unfortunately LOG will coincide when I am scheduled for French wine testing in 2015.
  10. That was back when the Series 4's were snubbed and made to park at the back. :bs:
  11. OMG! They are are off a Greyhound bus! I recognize the seat fabric :ack::willy_nilly:
  12. LOL - I missed the front suspension completely being mesmerized by the electrical wiring!

However, here is a beauty for Shane. I think it may be an electric seven. Is that an electric motor in the boot/trunk area? Needs some finishing touches to be perfect. A few wiring things to tidy up. Maybe a bit of a polish to make her shine? $1500. http://janesville.craigslist.org/cto/4674910930.html The Super Storker in Fort Meyers is still out there for sale on craigslist. Bit surprised this has not sold as it nicely prepared and a good spec.
  14. Yes - I take the heat fairly. :banghead: I should not have driven on track on Saturday...well.....the red mist should not have descended and I should have taken it easy in the CSR after the clutch went boom in the maroon Caterham but I was determined to lap everyone a few times over in my session.... My foot was paying me back yesterday and today - I was in agony. It did swell up badly by yesterday evening. For those that dont know I managed to fall at home and make 14 breaks in 10 bones in my right foot. :ack: I will go looking for cars for Shane shortly. :seeya:
  15. Sorry to hear of your misfortune. By asking around on here! There may be no one local to this car that has worked on Caterhams but quality vintage restoration shops should be able to do the work. For piece of mind, it may be worth shipping the car for repair to a quality workshop that knows what they are doing. I would be making the claim with your insurer and having them seek recoveries from the other driver's insurer. Depending on who you have they may or may not follow that protocol (e.g. Hagerty vs Daily Driver insurers). But at least your insurer has a vested interest in trying to keep you as a customer and give you good service. They should not penalize you on future premium increases as it was not your fault and most insurance companies have that feature in their rating plans.
  16. Hi Bruce, They look great! A couple of questions: 1) Whats the final weight like compared to the existing standard road wheels? Still 10.5lbs? 2) Will this only work with the Avon radial slick shown or will it accommodate other brands as Avon does not have the greatest of supply chains in the US? Thanks mike
  17. That was a great race to watch in person - I could actually pick out my yellow shirt in the stands Lovely clean racing - no leaning on each other.
  18. Its 4.30am and I cannot sleep as my foot is punishing me for doing many bad things on it yesterday (e.g. walking). So I might as well have a mug of tea and prowl the car ads. Three Caterhams on Ebay right now - the 2005 crossflow Caterham that has been awarded recognition by Mr Mustang as Shiller of the Month is on there. But there are 2 others: 1992 Caterham 1800cc crossflow. States that it is no reserve and then does a starting bid of $25500. I suppose that is one way to make reserve! This ad is confusing - it says the car is in BC Canada as well as stating it is in the US. I guess he is using a US Ebay ad to pull in possible US buyers. Although as it is a 1992 it would not be eligible for import to the USA. Canadian buyers preferred I guess? http://www.ebay.com/itm/Lotus-Super-Seven-Super-7-Sprint-1992-caterham-lotus-super-seven-sprint-1800-dedion-no-reserve-/111466895696?forcerrptr=true&hash=item19f3f1d950&item=111466895696&pt=US_Cars_Trucks Next up in the confusing ad stakes is a 1973 Lotus Seven S3. Except it is not - it then states it is a first year Caterham. Same car but will people pay a premium for Lotus over Caterham? 13500 miles. Lovely looking car although I never did like the fairing on the roll cage around those years. Twin cam with 4 speed box. 94 watchers on Ebay so it is popular. Buy it now is $34990. Not sure about some of the claims - matching numbers? Never tracked? Being sold by AutoKennel which will have meaning for some. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Lotus-Super-Seven-Caterham-S3-1973-super-7-2-owners-13-k-orig-mi-surviovr-s-match-twin-cam-big-valve-/331319785063?forcerrptr=true&hash=item4d2432b667&item=331319785063&pt=US_Cars_Trucks Same ad on Craigslist http://orangecounty.craigslist.org/ctd/4667830013.html 2013 Birkin with IRS and Duratec and 5 speed T9 gearbox. Previously listed on this thread. Nice spec and nice looking car. 650 miles $38629 Buy it now. Starting bid is $35600. Lots of negotiation room there.... http://www.ebay.com/itm/Replica-Kit-Makes-Lotus-Seven-Birkin-S3-S3-2013-lotus-seven-birkin-s-3-2-0-duratec-irs-profesionally-/151414204962?forcerrptr=true&hash=item2340fd6a22&item=151414204962&pt=US_Cars_Trucks 1992 Westfield Seight asking $6.49. Yes $6.49 - thats all canoes are worth these days :jester: Actually it is a nice brochure thing for the man cave. http://www.ebay.com/itm/1992-WESTFIELD-SEIGHT-ROADSTER-UNIQUE-IMP-BROCHURE-/371140401313?pt=Motors_Manuals_Literature&hash=item5669b118a1&vxp=mtr A repeat visitor. 2013 Caterham CSR. Probably a good discount over anything being offered new by Caterham USA these days. http://sfbay.craigslist.org/nby/cto/4674645186.html 2001 Caterham in white with red stripe. Repeat visitor. $38500. Located in the same workshop as the CSR above. Registered SB100 in CA with 500 miles and brand new. I guess this was a unbuilt kit now finally finished off? 2L Zetec with 5 speed. http://sfbay.craigslist.org/nby/cto/4673444165.html A previously shown on here Superformance S1. 2002. 10700 miles 2L Zetec. $25000 in Ohio. http://columbus.craigslist.org/cto/4612673374.html A lesson in how not to advertise a car - no photos! Hard to judge the price without photos! Here is the ad: 1960's Lotus Seven 7 clone - $4450 (Cullman) title status : clean ..this is an early Seven clone that came from one of the SouthEast Auto Museums .. I stripped the chassis to bare metal and have repainted and re assembled it. The Kent motor and transmission are not with the car, and there are many choices of vintage and current motor options, depending on your preferences.... Body panels are readily available This is a good opportunity if you have always wanted to complete one of these super quick cars for street or track age shown is approximate, and it is a clone , not a true LOTUS http://huntsville.craigslist.org/cto/4672068031.html Locost chassis seven project asking $750. Needs some work, some parts, some labor, liquid courage.... http://sanantonio.craigslist.org/cto/4648024366.html Another what looks to be Locost seven project. Advanced rolling stage. Lots of good quality parts listed. 350z engine with 6 speed which is a really interesting choice. Obviously would still need a lot of work to bring it to perfection. Located in AZ $6000 http://phoenix.craigslist.org/evl/cto/4670225707.html Locost rolling chassis (barely...) in Seattle for $1200 http://seattle.craigslist.org/see/cto/4669338182.html No Stalkers this week and it looks like the Craigslist ad for the Honolulu car has finally expired - not sure if that means sold.
  19. Did you see the one for sale in Hawaii recently? Would save having to import or even modify....assuming that is where you are located?
  20. Congratulations to Sean whose car it is and to Mopho who did the photography. I am sort of not surprised by the results - no aero means it was always going to have to be a different type of driving style/experience to get the most of a seven compared to modern aero cars.
  21. I cannot speak to A6 slicks being fit under the cycle fenders but I suspect yes they can. What I can speak to is that there are a number of people in the UK who have fitted the CSR front wings to their S3/S5. It requires a new wing stay but a quick search in Blatchat would give you the aftermarket retailers (Meteor, SevenSpeed, DemonTwats, etc) in the UK who sell both the new stay and CSR wing. The standard CSR front is a 195/45/15 CR500. I know some CSR owners have run wider but they carved out a bit of the wing to avoid a sharp edge cutting the tire. Helpfully, I remember Kitcat on this forum runs the CSR wings on his S3. And I have seen him run a variety of front tires. His wing has been trimmed to allow this but it works. Here is a photo of him running Blubarisax's Michelin slicks which are definitely wider than standard as you can see them extend past the CSR wing. I just looked up the sizing on that Michelin slick as I have one in the garage and it shows a 20/54-13 So it is a 13 inch wheel and not a 15 inch wheel but it is a higher profile than you are intending so it may all even out. http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a354/mjohnson555/seats/CSR/NJMP%20Sevens%20Weekend%20June%202013/IMG_1272_zpsa67c7b44.jpg
  22. Depends on throttle application. I bet I could make it 100% rear!
  23. I know better than most. 6 weeks in a coma after hitting an earth embankment at 130 mph in 1991 on a race track. 8 months of full time rehab. My career track destroyed. The mental scars still exist today. I set off metal detectors at airports. I feel the changes in weather in my joints from the amount of metal screws and bolts inside me. Believe in being safe.
  24. My first reaction was the same as yours. But then I asked myself what should be the correct value depreciation on a 1 year old Birkin virtually unused? 35%? 50%? 60%? Assuming a $35k final sale price then thats 34%. Tracking past Birkin sales from the data on this website would show to expect roughly 25-30% as an average. So this confirms what I have been seeing - used seven prices in the US have softened over the last few years. Still the right answer is that a car won't sell until a buyer wants to pay a price that works for them. Sellers always get the message in the end and meet the market if they want a sale.
