  1. And good sense especially if your car has brooklands screens instead of a windshield. There is enough crap kicked off both our own tires and the cars in front that I drive with a helmet 99% of the time. The few short neighbourhood trips that I dont I always wear ballistic sunglasses instead. Never had to worry about it. People ask me the same thing about driving my Elise and Miata before that but I dont really see much difference between them and the Seven. Inattentive drivers wont see an H1 Hummer either so size of car only really matters in the aftermath of the accident. With the much better stopping distance and agility of our cars I hope to be able to avoid said accidents instead.
  2. Driven through San Francisco city streets many times. The main issue for me is parking as I both need a safe spot and want to be close to my destination so that I dont have to carry my helmet and toolbox too far. I find highway driving to be scarier than city driving as the speeds are higher and you have less time to react to a moron.
  3. Little bit of both I think. The car was 2600 lbs and 470 hp on 25 year old tire tech while the owner of RUF used to call the driver Sideways Stefan.
  4. Someone dug up a high quality version of the RUF Yellowbird lapping the ring. It has a couple of full laps rather than the quick clips they showed in the original 1987 video.
  5. The weather was the one sucky part of the trip. Had it been 10 degrees cooler it would have been a much more enjoyable trip like the parts I drove down US-199

    Too Soon

Apparently an intern at the NTSB confirmed the names for them before they went on the air.
  7. An account of my 2000+ mile road trip to Seattle to attend West Coast Lotus Meet 2013. Includes a bunch of picture from the event plus track and autocross video as well. http://www.rahulnair.net/blog/2013/07/14/setting-up-a-seven-roadtrip-to-wlcm-2013/
  8. Thats a hell of a fuel supply - do you endurance race? Mine is an 8 gallon tank with probably 7-7.5 gal usable
  9. As long as the banned fans dont show up at the Austin race I'm cool with that
  10. The FIA's point is that most team personnel who are in the pit lane (not pit wall) are in full protective gear with helmets, visors, firesuits, etc... The camera guys on the other hand have no safety gear, are lugging heavy gear and are usually moving around while focussing on what they are shooting. While the media were the first ones banned I can see them starting to require full gear for team bosses or anyone else who moves from pit wall to garages during the race. +1 on xcarguys helmet cam idea. IIRC there were a few tire changers with helmet cams last season.
  11. I'd hardly call that an over-reaction. The pits are by far the most dangerous place at any race and the camera guys cant wear helmets, etc.. due to the gear that they carry

  13. Very nice - source?
  14. I think most people are arguing against driving because of the weather gear requirement. Sevens are great fun to drive but weather gear usually makes them quite user unfriendly. This is from someone who is about to set off on a 2000 mile 10 day roadtrip with zero weather gear.
  15. Got mine today - excellent as always. Thanks again Mopho.
  16. Very cool - I'm pretty sure that is the car that is now in my garage. I've since changed the seats, cage, etc... but it does look to be the same dash and engine bay with the exception that is now has a larger footwell cover that covers the whole pedal MC setup as well. http://farm5.staticflickr.com/4068/4474736537_a0b0630cd8_z.jpg
  17. Interesting. I've been calling mine the prototype as it was the first one with an S2K motor (and apparently the Subaru diff). Wasnt the frame originally designed for a bike engine? I am serial #18 so I assume there were 17 cars before mine.
  18. Shot by the Golden Gate Lotus Club with our own HankM in the Seven and my Elise.
  19. The historics have changed their procedures and are no longer allowing clubs to organize the tickets sales and corrals. Instead you have to buy them direct from SCRAMP. More info at http://www.gglotus.org/ggshop/ggcorral.htm
  20. If you do go Willwood do not get the same size as the front. They are complete overkill for the car and you will have too much rear bias. I ended up having to add both a proportioning valve and bigger MC to get a good balance. More infot at http://www.rahulnair.net/blog/2012/02/03/brake-bias-issues/
  21. The brake pad on my ebrake fell out at an autocross at which point I just took it off to save weight :-)
  22. Broomstick rules are typically for track days but most clubs in the west coast dont measure it themselves. Full on racing mandates a cage which creates a new hard point over the windshield and allows you to pass broomstick. In the end its all up to the driver and the their risk tolerance - my car(below) does not pass broomstick to the engine either. I do plan on adding a removable secondary hoop at the front for track days but felt that the side impacts were a greater risk than a rollover which is why I had those added first. http://farm5.staticflickr.com/4030/4678659725_4936566f86_z.jpg
  23. Dont forget that the windshield on a Seven is non-structural. To truly pass broomstick you should measure from the rollbar to the engine block which is quite a downward slope.
  24. Test-fit yourself in one before going much further. There are plenty of us owners in both Nor and SoCal for you to see the cars for yourself.
  25. A local owner here has a dash made out of a half inch think plank of solid wood - looks pretty cool.
