Forgot to mention When and if registering for LOG be sure to put USA7s as your club and your screen name used here. We are going to be identified as USA7ners on the badges. All the name badges are going to contain internet screen names as that is how many of us know each other either here, LotusTalk, whereever.

The schedule is set so that there are drives on Friday and Sunday for us if you wish. The Drives LOG has planned are inexcess of 100 miles at times and I don't think many of us want that long of a drive or can go that far without refueling. the quick schedule for USA7s is Thursday- nothing Friday- A drive from hotel to 29 Dreams for lunch (there is a $5 cover plus food $6-17) after lunch we will go to Barber's Vintage Motorsport Museum (USA7s/LOG covers your weekend pass). I will conduct a personal tour for USA7s members. After which we will return to hotel so those that want to do the LOG dinner will be back in time. For those that are not doing LOG, the local British Car Club is having a cookout and we are invited. Saturday- We will mirror LOG for the concour, again if you are not paricipating in LOG there is a second car show going on at the racetrack and you are more than welcome to enter ($20ish, includes 2 tickets to the NASA race that day). I am working on an alternative dinner for those not in LOG. The group picture will also take place Saturday afternoon at Barber's Sunday- I figure everyone will want to go to the autoX for a period of time, after which we will do a short drive and end up somewhere (to de decided) to have the club meeting (elect officers, BS, talk) It is possible (AL and Mazda have not been told until now and still working on confirmation) but Bob Dance may came to to this event as our guest. For those who don't know Bob was Jimmy Clark's mechanic, worked for Lotus since 1959, and is still employed by Classic team Lotus. No he really doesn't have lots to do with 7s but he is a great guy to talk with and is a die hard wrech turner. Kind of like the Locosters, the racers, the Mazda's in the group. Monday- Driver's Education day at Barber Motorsports Park (ie spend time on track with your car) Due to costs and insurance you have to be entered into LOG to do any of the track(Drivers Education), autoX, or Accident Advoidance (skid pad (wet and dry), salom, etc) events. The Barber track rents for in excess of $15,000 per day and this is the only way for us to have an event and use the track. To be honest the track cost is so high that Lotus Ltd. has asked the SE region of Mercdes-Benz Club of America to come along to help with costs. The info for roll bars, arm retranits etc is being rewritten now so it is easily understandable and I will let you know when that is posted. But basically if it road legal (or a race car) you can do Talledega, autoX, certain paced groups in the driver's education. All entrants for track day will need to have a pasenger seat so you can be signed off. If you do not have a passenger seat please contact me as the belief is you are a real racer and need to register as an instructor. Hope this helps. Questions goto appraisals@pristinial.com Thanks John Viviani President USA7s And and I vote to fast to race

We have a couple of big ultrasonic cleaners here at work. Use them for about everything. Soap/water mix with a biodegradable chemical additive. for the dozens of carbs etc. that have been run through them we have had no problems. The bearing issue is some believe that with the ultrasonic you will cause the bearings to vibrate for an extended period of time basically in the same place. Like I say about everything in restoration, ask my advice, tell me what you want to hear and I will bias it that way.
-
Hey I should be seeing the driver's education guy tomorrow, please if you have questions about tech or roll bars or email them to me. Please use appraisals@pristinial.com that way they can be easily found on my phone.

Sorry for the delay. Working out a few things. This is the basic schedule, some things may ajust from here but it gives you an idea. If you have suggestions please let me know. I could not figure out how to get a file on this site so I did stick an excel spredsheet on a website I had laying around. I will get a pdf there ASAP. www.pristinial.com

Let me copy Mazda's post from the NE region-- Hi All, We'll be at Carlisle again this year on Saturday May 16th. We'll have a tent and BBQ like last year. I know of at least 4 members who'll be coming. If you plan to be there, post up.
-
I am sorry I have spent the last two days with in LOG planning. I have the "final" event schedule, which will be posted at log29.com in the next day or so. SInce our meetings took 2 days not 1, it will be tomorrow before I have our schedule done. After the changes yesterday we will have more time for our events. I thank you for your understanding.

LOG29 updates New improved website www.log29.com Special Guests (subject to change...) Doc Bundy, Andy Pilgram, David Murray the orginal drivers of the Lotus Esprit 180R's. And all three 180R's should be in attendance and running. Peter Egan Clive Chapman (Colin's son, owner of Classic Team Lotus) Bob Dance (Jimmy Clark's mechanic)-we may be able to get Bob for one of our events is there intrest? Evora Remember Barber's has one of the largest collections of Lotus in the world 45 cars right now (and over 600 motorcycles on display) Most of these guests will be wondering around so LOG29 entry is not required. To go to the dinner to see them speak... For those who are planning to come and don't want to do the LOG and Lotus Ltd entries fees. There is going to be a Car show at Barbers the same day (entry fee no yet released, so you can get into track without ticket and still take part in a show. The LOG co-chair has many LOG29 threads at http://www.lotustalk.com/forums/f220/ if you need even more info. I WILL HAVE A USA7S SCHEDULE BY MONDAY! I PROMISE.
-
Please post here if you are coming to LOG29. How many? I need these numbers to plan the USA7s events. I also really would like to know if you were going to come before we moved the USA7s national gathering. Please No Discussions in this thread, just answers to the above. I have 2, was coming to both events regardless.
-
The Saturday banquet is normally good fair food. At LOG 28 there was the Evora intro, some interesting talks, Clive Chapman gave a talk, then Bob Dance and one of his Lotus shop mates told stories about the "happenings" at Lotus in the late 50's and 60's. This year the orginal drivers of the X180R Esprits will be doing some speaking (I know Doc Bundy is one of them). Clive Chapman will be in there, possibly a really big guest (to be confirmed), and ... Yeah I know a $100 is a lot for the dinner, but there should be some memories included in the price. That being said I am working on an alternative dinner place for those USA7ners that don't want to go to the Sat. night dinner. Please let me know if you are in that group (PM or email is fine) that way I have numbrs to work around.

ATTENTION-MAJOR UPDATE FOR 2009 EVENT!!!
sparecr replied to sparecr's topic in General Sevens Discussion
At this time I am trying to work out a few things to reduce USA7 member expenses. NO guarentee. At this point I would make my hotel reservation, but not send in the LOG form yet. Al, Mazda and I are working out schedules, sponsers, etc. We hope to have some things firmed up within the next week. Any hotel reservations should be able to modified or cancelled (confirm when registering) in case we change something. There will not be a discount beyond the rate set for LOG ($119 I think). group code 1AW4RX but I think they know LOG by now. -
ATTENTION-MAJOR UPDATE FOR 2009 EVENT!!!
sparecr replied to sparecr's topic in General Sevens Discussion
to clear up track day stuff Talledega is museum, lunch and a few at speed laps of the track (at speed means a speed that will hold your car on the 40 degree banking, not 200 mph) this is the plan, subject to change the AutoX will be held at the Birmingham Racecourse AutoX track/parking lot I am not sure if it will be the long or short course. The driver's ed/car control including wet/dry skidpad will at on Barber's skidpad The LOG29 track day is on Monday at barber Motorsports Park NASA is renting the track Saturday and Sunday, if you are a NASA racer and meet their rules I believe you may enter your car there. There will be a few historic classes and a feature Lotus race, what that means I am unsure, I only work here. NASA is also rumored to be renting the track on Friday. This would be an open session, couple of hundred bucks and you would be able to run all day. Again subject to NASA rules and regulations. Friday is not set yet. I will update as contracts get signed. John -
The parking is in a deck so your car will be covered and there is security. There will be a detail place on site if interested. Trailer parking will be reasonably close. The goal is to limit your concern for your car.

Somewhat Sevens. Guess I will have to rewatch the DVDs and loose hope for a creditable remake. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/28657018/ For those who don't know he was Number 6 on The Prisoner

ATTENTION-MAJOR UPDATE FOR 2009 EVENT!!!
sparecr replied to sparecr's topic in General Sevens Discussion
I am glad to hear the overwhelming positive response to this change. to be honest I was worried. I have spent the weekend working on schedules and some planning. Mazda, Al and I still need to set some things up but should have a schedule of USA7s things planned. For the racers there could be up to 4 days track time avail. For the casual racers or adventurous the car control clinic with wet and dry skid pad time might be fun. Oh and still unsure but we may get the long course at the autoX which is well much longer than normal. I know Lotus Ltd does not have their registration form up yet should be by mid next week. But to take full advantage of the weekend please look at joining Lotus Ltd. and registering for LOG. I know this will add a few dollars but will allow us to do many things that USA7s could never afford. (Heck the track rents for over $12K a day plus corner workers and ambulance) USA7s will be taking those costs into account. The addtional is whatever is saved by piggybacking can be carried over to 2011 or the smaller regional functions. If you could please email me offlist with anythings on the LOG schedule that you really want to do, things not on the list that USA7s may be able to do, and most importantly if your reason for coming to LOG is because of LOG or the USA7s meet. Oh and as I posted many months ago when annoucing LOG29, if the Sevens out number Elises I will give every member ONE whole dollar! Finally if the move is making the trip look to far please look at air travel to either Birmingham, Atlanta (2hrs), or Huntsville (90 minutes). You may not have your car but you can still experince everything. -
After much consideration and discussion among the officers of USA7s.org we regrettably are choosing to change the location and timing of the 2009 event. We have looked at the situation and based on a number of factors we have chosen to have the 2009 USA7s meet in Birmingham, AL in conjunction with the 2009 LOG29 event. If you look at the LOG29 schedule you will find there are numerous drives planned, there is a lap “at speed” (not some 5 mph cruise of Talladega Super Speedway), and entry into the Barber Motorsports Museum that has a collection of over 1200 motorcycles and the largest collection of Lotus race cars in the world. The LOG29 committee has already planned several driving events including an autocross, car control clinics, and a Monday track day at Barber Motorsports Park (which is a track our club could never afford). We did not want to make you choose a 7s only event or LOG29 in Birmingham and missing out on the great Lotus collection and the great driving events. We have elected to let you know of this decision as early as possible. USA7s.org will be forming a schedule of USA7s.org events that will be separate from LOG29 happenings and members will be free to choose which they wish to attend. (To participate in LOG29 events (including track) you will have to register for LOG.) I know there will be many questions and will take time each evening to answer. My direct phone number is 205-470-0191 — leave a message if I’m not there. We plan to return to our stand alone event in 2011. So the new 2009 event announcement— The club officers have decided to run the 2009 USA7s.org national meet the weekend of May 28-June 1, 2009. The event will taking place in Birmingham, AL. The Winfrey Hotel will be the host hotel. Many events will take place at Barber Vintage Motorsports Museum and Barber Motorsports Park. During the event weekend there will a NASA sanctioned event at Barber Motorsports Park, there also will be a large car show that will include the Lotus Concours (200 cars expected), the Concours for the Mercedes-Benz National, and the 300-400 of the region’s best cars at the 1st Barber Sportscar Classic. Please see www.LOG29.org for their schedule and further hotel info. When were you out? Next time give me a ring, I know people there and maybe could show you around the museum.

The best source for your list would be Dennis Ortenburger, Lotus Seven & the Independents: Featuring the Lotus Seven and a History of the World's Independent Builders. The Lotus Seven is the most copied car in the world and tossing in the Locost builders who really knows how amny versions. (Locost is mentione in the book and the author actually built his own locost). Amazon Link http://www.amazon.com/Lotus-Seven-Independents-Featuring-Independent/dp/1902351126/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1222707009&sr=8-1 as far as the Wiki citiation, I guess one of needs to go over there and correct a few things. The 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11 all share the space frame (as do most early Lotus). The 8, 9, 10 really have noting to do with the Seven. The Seven only looks like a Six otherwise very little in common. Now the Eleven is actually what the Seven is based on (yes the Seven as we know it came after the Eleven). If you strip off the body work and some outriggers from an Eleven you now have a Lotus 7. The above list off hand forgets Stalker, Rotus, Costin....

Not if you move up to F1 rims and tires. I carry a spare but no jack. We can say it is there for crash protection, we also can say we hope Britney and Kevin get back together, but neither would be exactly true now would they?

While I am on a roll, ;;What turned each of us on to a 7
sparecr replied to DB6's topic in General Sevens Discussion
Saw one, then went through years of modifing cars to get the performance I wanted, then realized what I wanted, finally I drove an Elise. 3 days later I was on a plane to go buy my car. Funny I keep thinking of selling but cannot come up with anything any amount of money that will have the performance, attention grabbing (failure to offened) looks, smiles that I get with my Seven. Oh yeah and I too touched the ground:7drive: -
I have run with my top on a few times. I would even more but the fact I have 4 huge air filters that hang off my webers into the air makes me worry about sucking water. Since it is a 74/78 model it probally has the closest top toto the one that started the discussion. It is tough to get on (I would imagine after 4 yrs of no use it may have shrunk a bit, heat it up, a sunny July day works good, and it will go on easier.) Start at the windshield and work back, yes you will wonder if the windshield will break. After it is up it is no more diffcult to get in than a hardtop Elise. The noise well... Biggest problem are the old school side screens, the later model hign-vis work much better.

John Viviani Birmingham, AL Caterham Series 3 1 probally 2 maybe 3....

Yeah like our cars (without V8s) are big. And it is amazing how big the little BMC engines can be. Neat little company.
