yep, can't say it better. Now waiting for FedEX with my Petronix... remember disconnect the battery before welding...
-
Just bumping as there is one day left and could use one or two more articles. Or dates for any upcoming car events...
-
Actually this is unsprung weight. The ratio I have heard is that every 1 lb of unsprung is equal to 10 lbs sprung. So this really is a 120 LBS weight savings. Easiest way to save money without affecting drivability.

I am not one who tracks my Seven (thiniing however). But uses it more than a fair weather motorcycle (if I didn't have the huge intakes sticking out to suck rain I would drive it more. You do have to think about where you are going, what you are doing but it can make fairly decent road transport. Honestly I think it is more useful than an Elise on the road. (Baring accidents). And there are those that use these things daily (and even company cars on the other side of the pond). Just depends on what level of comfort/saftey you require.

Now come on. I do work in a basement and it is a horrible place, but I can maybe work something out for a tour, we will see as the date draws closer and I figure out how many minutes I have free. If you really want to spend time at the museum you may want to come early, if you check the schedule online it is a a busy weekend. The racetrack is even shooting for a vintage race that weekend. Oh yeah rough job.... http://www.usa7s.org/aspnetforum/upload/1818162789_101_0903.JPG http://www.usa7s.org/aspnetforum/upload/847881759_101_0911.JPG

For those that don't know it but LOG 29 will be in Birmingham, AL with many events taking place at The Barber Vintage Motorsports Museum, Talledega Raceway (including laps of the track, maybe at speeds so you can experince the banking), etc, etc. The website for the event is up at www.log29.com check it out. There were 25 or so 7's (Lotus, Caterham, Birkin, Ultralite, Westfield) at LOG28 in Indy, we want beat that number, right? I will give everyone who attends in a 7 -wait for it---- ONE DOLLAR!!!-- :banghead: if the 7's count beats the Elise count.

I have found that anytime you wax over polished alluminum it will dull the shine some. On the otherhand it will not show as many fingerprints and you can handle the part. This is something I do when restoring cars around work. That is to wax the new or refurbished alloy panels to protect them. People cannot keep their hands off anything. When the car is done a simple wipe with wax/degreaser and I have a panel that requires little attention before displaying. I run Panasports on my Cat same size you refer to and love them. They are the orginal wheel in that style making them the most expensive but I am not diappointed in them.

Al are you checking to see if I read all these things? It is a fairly rough Eclat for that kind of money. Holding out hope on that Elite (if I can ever get a price). And did have someone seriously offer his good condition 308 in trade this weekend for the Caterham.

As most of us are in to motorsports at some level and this of course is not "news" to those that be. But Phil Hill left us today, having met the man a few times.... http://www.latimes.com/la-me-hill29-2008aug29,0,2922168.story

Sort of a bump, over 100 cars now preregistered, working on getting some fairly rare stuff right now. Museum will be pulling out the 23 and polished aluminum 11 at least maybe one or two more. Anyone coming? I know a few Lotus people caravaning from Atlanta...

I have fiberglass in 2 colors and swap it from time to time not really that hard. (I could use a yellow nose if anyine is listening). Of course this is clamshell to clamshell, going to cycle wings shouldn't be to bad. For the other part of your question, matching fiberglass to fiberglass would be difficult. The gel coats still are a mixed product and red is the hardest color to match anywhere. you might be best repairing and repainting what you have.

Being size 8 like AL I can drive in my work boots. I also have a pair of the Pumas everyone raves about (wife uses them also). If you were at LOG28 the Indy group had neat little instructions for making the Piloti into a green and yellow Lotus driving shoe and I also saw the Addidias in green and yellow Lotus colors.

Let's see my thought process... I hate when women block the view of the car, oh last two pictures sort of make it worth it, I still would like to see the car without the women, I WANT to see more of the women, oh wait maybe this isn't good for this site. So quick someone cap the pics, put on an outside webstie and link it with a small warning. (I did ask that Mazda take down the last two pics, the first time in my life I try to PC, so much for second term as pres.)

There is a fairly good sized show in Birmingham (hoping for 80 cars+) at Barber's August 30. SCCA race as a backdrop. www.barbermotorsports.com/classic-car-registration.php This is the Historics in the park will be a wide selection of cars. Only $10 to enter your car and includes T-shirt and addmission to park for show and SCCA race (spectator). Does not include museum admission.

Throw out some details... A Sunday after the Cars and Coffee thing might be doable for those of us who would drive a distance to get there. There is a fairly good sized show in Birmingham at Barber's near the end of the month if interested in coming this way. SCCA race as a backdrop. www.barbermotorsports.com/classic-car-registration.php Maybe I should make this its own post?

28th Annual Lotus Owners Gathering (LOG 28) In Indy
sparecr replied to Feffman's topic in National Events
How I love the internet. Makes me wonder why I am shopping for a new camera, everyone else takes the pictures I want (well except of some of the softer things). Thanks Jack, I couldn't make it to the circle concours we were dealing with the still unresolved oil leak in the Lotus 29. (see it is a real job) Also after my Caterham spent 3-4 days in the trailer with a real Lotus I now have a bad brake light switch and in need of a new clutch slave cylinder. Oh and how did you get photo #3, I know I read somewhere no cameras allowed on the track. -
I did that just to make sure someone was reading. Yeah that's the ticket...

28th Annual Lotus Owners Gathering (LOG 28) In Indy

Thanks Jack, but I know you were busy, My car was wearing its Bugatti Blue clothes for this outing. It is having the green suit cleaned right now. I really need to start driving at these things and get less involved in the business marketing stuff. 1400 miles round trip to Carlisle drove 1 mile. 1200 miles round trip to Indy drove 2.6 miles....(guess where 2.5 of those were) -
28th Annual Lotus Owners Gathering (LOG 28) In Indy
sparecr replied to Feffman's topic in National Events
Well okay, give me a chance to sleep. I mean I had to drive a certian Lotus indivdual back to Birmingham Monday also. I never really counted the sevens but an excellent showing would guess 10-15. 5-6 Lotus, 2 Stalkers, at least 2 WCMs, a few Birkins, a bunch of Caterhams including a CSR. Mark Scott's Super Stalker was great (pictures in members rides) and at somepoint he may talk about his autocross adventure. Really can talk for hours. I know there are some pics on Tony V's site www.lotusowners.com I have a few I may post (or hold for the next newsletter). Many USA7ners were there and I tried to chat with as many as possible. It was also mentioned that LOG 29 will be in Birmingham, AL May 28-June 1. It possibly will include a nationally sanctioned vintage race, driver schools, skid pad exercises, choice of 3-4 drives, autoX, large all makes car show...... -
28th Annual Lotus Owners Gathering (LOG 28) In Indy
sparecr replied to Feffman's topic in National Events
I will be at the event Thurs-Sunday. Might even try to make the kick-off cook out. The Alambama Lotus Car Club will be caravanning up on Thursday. -
My comment was more directed as if the Stalker guys want to express their family like club and maybe see some additional exposure for their cars it might be good to have a date mentioned in the USA7s new newsletter. They are a paying sponser of this site. If the gathering is private then why is it mentioned here? On a site note I am a former Stalker owner and consider Dennis, Justin and many Stalker owners friends. I also consider the Stalker one of the best buys in a Seven style car anywhere. The administration of this forum is working, many long hours for free, to make this a home for all this Seven and in the growth period anything helps.
-
Now why wouldn't someone forward this to the newsletter editor?
-
Is there a chance you or the car will be at the Grand Am event in Birmingham this weekend. I have a friend in the local car club wanting a Miata powered 7, I keep meaning to forward this to him. It would be great to get the two of you together this weekend if you are around Barber. If you are PM me and I will get you my cell so the two of you can get in touch.

Morgan is correct. Webs were never an option for the Lotus Seven. :frog:Of course Chapman for the right price would build you anything you wanted (except a Twin Cam car, until the very end). The 7 1/2 is a one off custom by Hugh Haskell (sp?) I believe, so it doesn't really count. I just like the name as it brings back memories of early Lotus, which is what our cars pay tribute to. Of course if it doesn't win maybe my new national Lotus magazine could use a title. Of course I do need my new national Lotus Magazine.
