  1. We have our Indy race the same weekend as the Mitty, so the Barber Historics is going to be May 15-17 to give us a week or 2 between events.
  2. Okay I attached the flyer for the new proving grounds we just built at Barber. It might lend an alternative track to the group. The rental rate as I said above is much less than the big track and with the 5 acre asphalt pad and multi configurable track you run run a different track morning and afternoon or even day to day. The track while not wide enough for passing is perfectly suited for Seven sized cars. By renting the proving grounds you can decide on run groups times etc...This is just another option for using Barber at a more affordable rate. And as Dean said above if you made it a gathering we can set up some really great mountain drives and events for non-racers, spouses, or kids. Grabbing the track the day after our HMSA event in May could make for a great gathering. The featured make will be Lotus at that event.
  3. I am glad to see such response. Doing a DE/track day is a slight undertaking, expense logistics, and driver experience are big factors. I would think piggy backing on another HPDE event is the way to go. FYI the main track rents for mid-teens per day so it really takes 100-150 cars to make it affordable. However we just completed a new smaller track with a slight banked corner and is multi configurable so your Sunday course could be changed from the Saturday and many other options. This track rents for $4500 a day so a group of 30 would be in the $3-400 weekend range. I can find out which HPDE groups have rented the track next year and get contact info if you want to look into a piggy back scenario, I can also get you contact info for the proving grounds if that might interest you. After the track portion is decided we can then find out what tours/drives/events can be arranged. I am sure it will again be a fun weekend for all, even if a track day isn't your thing. Disclaimer-I can help out and be a point of contact but for all kinds of reasons I personally cannot put the event together.(especially any of the track activities)
  4. The library does have a few drawings. There is a section for the cars (not everything is about bikes). We do keep a close hand on the drawings as they are originals or provided by CLassic Team lotus who wants to keep them close. No need to fill ebay with copies. Send me information on what the group wants out a gathering (or start a thread) I am sure we can try to work something out. I could not believe it had been since June of 2011 that I last logged in here, where does the time go?
  5. Back in 2009 when I was "President" of USA7's we combined the 2nd USA7's biannual meeting with LOG 29 (Lotus Owners Gathering 29) at Barber's. Had a great turnout of 7's and was an enjoyable weekend for all. It has been years since I have been in the 7's game (Locost, then Stalker #19, then a Cat (sold 5 years ago). Been sometime since I have visited the forum (probably should, I think I am officially still Secretary of this group) thanks for the reminder. That being said I am the Lotus restorer at the Barber Museum, the Tom Robertson 7 was one of my projects and without help from Tom and a list member here the car could have never been completed to the standard it is today. Anytime any of you are through shoot me an email jviviani@barbermuseum.org I can at least say hi and tell you what might be going on. (Next May we are conducting a HMSA Historic Race, featuring Lotus, along with a sports car orientated swap meet if you need a good excuse to visit.) John
  6. As current serving secretary (and former club President), I must say I have enjoyed the positions and the club much. Things in my life have changed in the last two years and I barely have time to make it to the this board anymore. I will not be seeking a reelection to this position but am willing to provide any info to the incoming officers. Be seeing you...
  7. Guys I am just not having time to enjoy the car anymore. I will regret doing this but I am selling my car. It is listed here on eBay http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=280666774297#ht_594wt_1166 but if you email me and mention USA7S I can be be at $21500 or toss the trailer in for free and be at $22500.
  8. Congrats for you. I did the same thing this weekend, new girlfriend and her first ride in the Seven. A quick trip to lunch then she was okay with the 100 mile round trip drive to a friends for a cookout. Top down on the way there, a little rain then top up on the way back. She was a good sport.
  9. I am in also, but I won't be bringning my Seven, Sorry. No room in the trailer.

    Log 30

Dean, I did not see a place on my registation for the t-shirt. I did order the polo and fleece. Will I be able to order the t-shirt on site. Oh and it looks like Barber's will be bringing a 30. I think we should have brought the Mk IV because then I could get my 7 in the trailer also.
  11. I would be in for one or two. Price I guess everyone wants to be a t 10 so I am in at that. Plus a good bump for this thread..
  12. I maybe late to chime in here, but I looked at the option of doing the exact same thing on my 78 Caterham. I good TC with a weber head and carbs I feel should sell for 6-9K to the right buyer. Heck I have seen good Weber heads go for 3-4K alone. But all in all I choose to keep my TC. If I want a Zetec car I felt I should sell what I had and buy a done car. (Part of the restorer/preservationist in me). The TC takes more care than the Zetec, you have a slower car, but it is pure 7. Nothing like popping off the hood and showing that Lotus motor. Plus I run weber 45's on my car and talk about conversation pieces. Yes it can run a tad rich, you mayget a back fire, but... Your car being a 1977 the TC is probally orginal to the car as it seems most US cars came that way. So the motor is part of its history. It more than likely came with Dellrotos (sorry about the spelling). But 45's and 40's are common swaps. 40's are a better fit, but like I said above 45's work well and I can get 30 mpg out of mine. Heck we run 45's on a couple of Climax engines at work. As far as color it is up to you, but a JPS color scheme I think would look wrong on a 7. For a painted car go bright--Blue, Red, Mustard Yellow. You need to be seen by other cars. My car is polished and I have two sets of glass one BRG on one Bugatti Blue. I have been running the Blue because everyone seems to have a green car.
  13. Well two years ago I dropped a valve in my Caterham and with machine shop delays, life, the nagging problems and the frustration of tuning it took until this weekend to get it back on the road. 50 miles yesterday, 40 miles today...Maybe I don't need that 370Z after all.
  14. Have you ever read a Press release from Matt Chambers (President of Confederate Motorcycles). This sounds just like him. the really funny part is he is dead serious when he does it.

    Which car ?

Ferrari 166 or the Cobra Daytona Coupe. I am going face value that both these are real cars. And this is a for profit pick.
  16. Pistons and rods are curious little buggers, always trying to explore the outside world. Every now and then they make it.
  17. Buddy of mine works with the SimCraft people and that simulator is amazing. They have had it at the track running iRacing software for the IRL, Indy Light and Grand Am drivers. It is amazing to hear how close the drivers feel the thing is.
  18. This one pops up every year or so. The Super 8 was kit by RM and I think they only made like 8 kits actually. There is a really nice white one with red interior. This one just never seems to find a buyer.
  19. I had a long conversation with the guy from Canada that sells the Busa powered Cats a few weeks back. He was at the track helping a customer set up his car. He seems to have a lot of knowledge and many different set up options available. He has an owner down in Mississippi. regular disclaimer appllies as I have not used his stuff or followed his advice so... I have his contact info at home if you need it.
  20. I am out this year also. Big vintage race down here that weekend. Sort of sucks.

    Who is at Fault

I thought most remote starters had warnings to not install them in manual transmission cars. We are just talking about a car here but what if someone was in the way? Fault should be with the installer, unless the owner signed an agreement noting he was aware of the danger. Then the owner is at fault for having the car so equipped. However if I have NOS on my car and the tech actives it on a test drive and all hell breaks loose the dealer is a fault. So my thinking would be unless this was a factory/dealer installed(Ford) remote starter the shop should be at fault. In my feeling they should not use anything they are not fully trained about. But what do I know, I quit law school so I could play with cars.
  22. The High has been direct in pointing out that this collection has nothing in common with the Philly or NY shows and is not a traveling exhibit. I was going but the group sales office has upset me somewhat so I am indifferent at this time. (I was only bringing 2 buses of people and they felt that was not a large group.) It is a wonderful collection and the only time that 48 Porsche has been on US soil (replica or not I have been told both and have not researched). Excuse to go to Atlanta? Well this exhibit. Then the micro car museum just outside Atlanta. afterward head over to Birmingham to see the Lotus collection there (if you do it right hit ether the IRL/Grand Am or The Legends of Motorsport events). Then up to Huntsville for the US Space and Rocket center all within a days drive of Washington DC. Or a long day from Jersey.
  23. Another idea is o go to the Carlisle Import/Kit nationals in May (21-23). There has been a good sized group of Sevens (from this group)of all makes and models at this show the last few years. Great way to visit with a bunch of owners and try on many different Sevens at one time.
  24. Mick you just need to rid yourself of that Exige and get a real Lotus.
