  1. As a suggestion:-0 ...TRY.. Honda's MTF (manual trans Fluid) $5/6 litre jug at Any Honda dealers' parts counter. Not a prohibitively pricey 'experiment :-) This is exceptional stuff. Roughly 30(ish) weight NON synth No millions spent on advertising it either :-) I've used it for years on a variety of transmissions.. with happy result. Shifts very nicely As small bonus ambient temp has very little effect on shift quality.(it doesn't turn to molasses in the cold) Preferred by Honda racers, who often despite bearing Redline stickers /sponsorship. Refuse to actually use that stuff ..it reputedly dissolves NTN brand (v good brand used exclusively by Honda) Bearings' plastic cages..Not good.
  2. Misab plate!? Fancy name for another Brit substandard bodge. (yes I've tried those.. Garbage is a polite descriptor in my experiences) Used to buy /fit Alfa Romeo Rubber mounting blocks for Webers. A whole Planet better quality in fit, durability AND vibration isolation Gee.. who woulda thought that Italians, makers of Webers, would have developed a decent mount system??
  3. C'mon... NO One should buy a British Electrical part. New product is just as Crap as it was 40 years ago. All bleating aside. If you must.. a Bosch unit will work "fine' and the Scrap yards are Full of VW and Beemer donors. IF after small AND reliable try Japanese wrecking yards.

:-) A simple rattle Can paint job can look pretty darned good and ..when.. they show degradation. Blow the $5/6 for a new paint can...and repaint them.
  5. WHY? is there a problem in registering it as Exactly as what it is: a '97 Caterham??
  6. Motos typically average 15% losses. Few 4 wheelers can even approach that figure Very Odd, that 10% claim..rendering the entire 'data' as suspect
  7. Bozo car... sparkly tho. Reserve not yet met just to add insult to injury. Wonder what the 'optimistic' reserve might be? Amusement curiosity only.
  8. Makings of a Nice 'buy' story. Sadly.. just another Flipper/ Profiteer.
  9. Isn't this the Chevy Cavalier motor? Also fitted to a few deceased Saabs. Where it was owner reviled as a horrid thing indeed... unpopular was an understatement. Clearly 'affection' for it seems to vary widely.. Largely dependant on Geography. Why bother? when Duratechs erm.. Mazda 2.3's.. are Dime a Dozen at the local wreckers... Continent wide. Even Caterham fits these in their 'better' versions.
  10. Remember Galileo?? Proved that theory ...wrong.. a while ago :-) Driving a Lotus Seven, fitted with clamshells, anywhere near 100mph is for V brave men or complete fools. Always has been.
  11. A wee bit more involved than that I'm afraid , there are 2 O2 sensors dependant on the Catalytic in a post 1996 OBD2 system. First one sets Fuel ratio based on what it reads at the cat., Second one double checks on the first one. Missing either sensor, Let alone the cat will send your ECU into Spasms. Serious fuel consumption and often drivability issues can result. There are Aftermarket gizmos that can substitute /fool the ECU.. IF you really do need delete the cat. It happens. Personally I wouldn't be overly swayed by "save the whales" guilt nonsense Given that transport trucks or even buses don't even pretend to. Aircraft are just a Joke as well.. pumping out 80 %! of the fuel that's injected.
  12. BMC A series motors were Fun.. back in 69/70. The blocks are 'mostly' the same , basically the Cranks and bore differ. Cooper S variants were a bit improved. Remember these are/were Cast iron lumps with 3! main bearing cranks and siamesed intake ports. Being dead simple, there are lotsa blacksmith DIY mods possible, many being crap, but some are very good, the fabled 8 port cyl head (gasp! one intake and ex hole per cyl And Cross flow too.. how moderne can you get?) being the best(?) development. Believe there are still (?) a few D Sports Spridgets buzzing about race tracks with their $20,000 engines :-) Many retrofit Honda D series engine units into their Minis though.
  13. And unfortunately rebuilt by an idiot intent on resale $$ ONLY. #JQ 267 Note that the wrap of the Ali skin over the top most Square frame tube has only 2? rivets visible. That's Definitely a build problem Mate. Again: I wouldn't touch it it with your Member let alone mine :-)
  14. Odd rebuild IMO. Beyond the previous observations. The side (of the engine compartment ) skins seem attached with Very Few pop rivets whereas OEM was every inch or so. As general indicator/window into the cleverness/skill of the rebuilder, NOT an encouraging purchase. Wayy Too Many $$ as well.
  15. The Seven is visceral and primitive, while imo the Elise and the Evora thing are improved in creature comforts (but still wayyy below industry standards) IMO they are simply too fugly to consider sitting in let alone owning one. There is Nothing 'sexy' about them.. even teenage girls laugh. There was one hapless Evora owner who was exasperated by the fact that his new car was repeatedly 'keyed. He was convinced it was Jealous Lout vandals.. as if. Turns out it was teenage girls who were 'pissing' on the thing... and it's owner. A non starter... period. As reinforcement to the above: take a good look at the few owners who actually drive those things.. 'nuff said :-)
  16. Sadly Cross flows.. really.. don't like Boost. Seems there is a genuine lack of steel (iron?) between the bores. Fairly common knowledge 30+ years ago though. If we forget history.. we get to repeat it :-)
  17. Reallly? That's surprising actually. VTEC 'kick in' is more like a wee nudge in my experiences with those.
  18. IMO Caterham Constantly dicked with the chassis specs. Likely in some addled attempt in keeping it 'current' and in the news, a genuinely profitable business clearly , perennially, eluded them. Results of this constant putzing about are glaring/obvious in their parts listings.. One needs a bloody program to figure out the myriad (mostly inconsequential) 'improvements' made every year or 2. Frankly IMO the older the better; Fewer dicky improvements :-)
  19. Oooh! that sucks. Reality is though that's more of a manifestation of an inadequate ECU than anything else, "some" ECU's turn everything off when there is No fuel detected in the comb chamber. They are well designed to.. Boost doesn't suffer inadequacy lightly.
  20. Still available (today) from that above 'lotus books' link in Germany. It's a reprint though and it runs about 60 euros with shipping.
  21. My 2 cents :-) The Xflow is an OLD design, yes it can be rorty fun but it's also a PITA to keep running 'on song' and the things are seemingly always needing 'something' if not a rebuild. I had one in mine, won a few events too. But that was well over 30 years ago and I didn't mind spending most waking moments nursing it. If that's your fantasy.. 'nuff said:-) Dunno what the magic /reverence re Zetecs and Duratechs is based on. These are Ford Focus and Mazda 3 engines.. pedestrian fitments in a word. Dime a dozen at pretty well Any wrecking yard. 140 hp right off the wreckers' delivery truck. You only need Mo' power in a 7 if you are Aryton Senna's faster brother or are seriously inept at driving.
  22. You guys are in for a shock. China's population is "caring up" at a rate Double that of USA. They are also paying $90K ! for a Buick (taxes) I've noticed that used cars in the US have what I regard as astronomical mileages on them. You guys seem all think nothing about driving 50/75 miles to your jobs.. each way. Without mincing words that's just Insane. Living more than a 20 min drive from one's workplace is Certifiable and clearly unsustainable. Wise up or lose.
  23. Perhaps time for a Reality Check? Find the Blatchat forum and then search within it for Aero.. You might discover that what you want will Not be accomplished by what you think... and be surprised by what has been shown to work.
  24. In MY part of the world Ethanol content decreases with Octane rating. Chevron 94 is 100% Ethanol Free.. as assured by Chevron itself. I use it in my Lawn equipment as well as my ancient TZ350 Yamaha racers Problems 100% avoided :-)
  25. Even Far braver than you suspect. Fuel would have been the least of my worries. It was a BMC Midget underneath that swoopy body. Not the most reliable/trustworthy collection of mechanicals produced by man. Still it reads like a good adventure. But then that's his job.. to polish such stories:-)
