  1. I've experienced a fire from spitback from a pair of 45 dcoes Happily a Fire extinguisher was handy. It's No Joke.. fit the drain tube.
  2. It's a Sevenesque "ghetto cruiser" :-) just add 21" spinner wheels and it would be perfect. Always amazes that someone will ultimately buy.. anything.. that's offered for sale.

Love that lawn driveway, it's Great. Clearly it doesn't see much traffic , or does it?
  4. Cheap ass paint is Best on an engine IMO. NO high temp engine paint.. ever..thanks. Regular paint bubbles and blisters when you've genuinely overheated the engine.. and Only then. Consider it as the paint equivalent of a yellow 'idiot' light'. Also Rustoleum paints just fine over rusty surfaces. After all you are only looking for a bit of touch up? Not a complete restoration paint job .
  5. That's a pretty one... as to be expected at $80K. As perspective: Austin Healy 3000's fetch same if not more... regularly. These were Really Poorly made machines .. well below Par assembly/detailing standards.. even then. Remember taking a purchasing eye to one in late 60's. The glass shell was crumbling and cracking, pretty well everywhere. Many of the goofy metal mounting inserts were either missing!, loose or ready to pull thorough. The Mechanical bits were barely operable mostly as result of poor assembly, but also by low quality. IMO, Loutii, now as then, are something best enjoyed when 'someone else' owns them. Interesting Jez Coates reference. I would suggest a more appropriate one as: "The sun was in my eyes, my mitt was too big and I tripped "
  6. Cat 21 always looks pretty in Promo photos. In real life it's a Dog's breakfast contraption. Basically a 'normal' 7 with a f'glass body shell plunked down on top of it. They never even managed roll up windows. Expected in a 7 .. laughable in anything else. There was Reason why it was v poorly received in sales rooms.
  7. Sort of.. Depends entirely on what Make/intended use of the donor axle. Some were made so that the required offset was as little as 3/4". Others have a 2" (or more) offset. It's dependant on the maker's decision to use equal length drive shafts... Or Not :-) You would have to identify which axle they inserted into that early westie.
  8. A pluse jet!? Friend had one when we were kids... these were available as Control line model airplane engines. Main memory was that these were ; a complete bugger to start. Only a bottle of compressed air worked reliably. It burned gasoline which made it genuinely risky. The thing was LOUD and glowed a bright red in use. Dissapointingly the performance was only mediocre. A simple/ubiquitous Fox 35 stunt Glo motor on a propeller easily out performed the thing. Bit of a Bust. Methinks this guy has been inhaling more exhaust than is good for him. As digression this adjunct page: http://throttleyard.com/2011/09/29/ty-exclusive-1968-bultaco-metralla-project/ with the Metralla is hugely more interesting.
  9. Perhaps in shedding some light on that: When Lotus (under Fresh New management ) decided to fit the Elise with a Toyota Drive unit.. there was much gnashing of teeth and criticism. That fact that it was a far better engine than any available in the UK and was already a durability/emissions tested to be acceptable unit for the North American market was ignored by the critics.
  10. I have a Bridge for sale too !! :hurray: Perhaps you might also look Here: for time Proven zetec/duratec tunnings http://www.raceline.co.uk/index.asp
  11. Nice job.. But IMO it's a DIY Lo-Cost. Therefore worth approx 3 bus tokens.. like it or not. When these finally sell... in my part of the world... $3/4k seems about it.
  12. So what? I can get 13,500 (redline) on my 600RR ... Big effing, deal. My Kid (foolishly, hey! he's a kid :-)) had an expensively modded RX7 II Turbo with a compressor section the size of a dinnerplate.. true. Rotaries being 2 strokes, suck up CFM like nobody's business (to a MAX of 6 psi tho ) and burn oil a well as mass volumes of fuel. STILL slower than his friends' new BMW 330I ? the one with a folding metal convertible top and twin turbos. Upshot is: IMO.. Wankles are a dead end design .. No longer interesting.
  13. Possibly true on the Hiway... dunno. In the city it was worse than useless. Pedigree aside, Mine had Spurious signals every couple of blocks and even the Radar Sweep from the Airport would set it off like a metronome. Last event that caused me to dump the crappy thing was a radar trap on a 2 block medium slope hill .. in the rain :-) Effing 'Escort' didn't even light up. In urban uses.. going over the speed limit was usually 10/15 mph 'above'. Nostalgia is 99% selective memory
  14. Preferably set thusly with the driver in the car :-)
  15. Mid 70's.. I had an Escort detector fitted ino my Alfa. Armed with advertised imunity...within weeks I had accumulated enough tickets to be in danger of losing my license. Last ticket was aquired with my stupid 'Escort Gizmo' being signal erratic and the officer seeing and laughing at the thing. Immediately dumped the troublesome item in the trashbin. Yes "new and improved" these days.. But LIDAR is 99% universal too :-) Even if only due to health issues for Police officers using the older tech gizmos. No detector forces one to use ones' intelligence about speeding, which is FAR more effective in my experiences. YMMV though .
  16. So what! A Hyabusa weighs half as much with it's 6 speed sequential transbox included, has More power, Revs thousands higher and is 1/4 the price. Suzuki will even sell you repair parts. But then some like BMC A series engines too. Nostalgia is 99% 'selective' memory :-)
  17. Erm.. didn't the GM/Cadillac Northstar v8 feature that Variable cyl ignition trick. Years.. ago? It could even run sans coolant as the ECU would keep rotating ignition to operational cyls to keep temps in check. Go VW!
  18. My thoughts too, a Canbus gizmo will give 90+% of what the Honda reader does. But then I'm not a big fan of the S2000 lump.. Too much coin, too much weight and bugger all torque.
  19. Weakening the Brand OR strengthening it?? Personally I haven't seen much activity from any North American 'sales' agents at all. Nobody dumps a winning effort.
  20. I don't think so. But best to use lotsa asbestos on the surrounding car bits if your going to experiment.
  21. May be entirely true. But where in hell are you gonna find a useable Datsun 1200 rear axle in 2011?? Geez.
  22. Beginners :-) Buy a n inexpensive Disposable Plastic Syringe (Horse supply store $2) Fill it with fresh fluid attach it to the bleeder nipple of a Brake caliper using a suitible bit of tubing. Open the bleeder and Force inject the contents of the Syringe.. slowly. Do the other bleeders around the car sequentially. Job Done.
  23. 5! years and going 'as new' in my Beater. Clearly YOU have a genuine problem. Battery does have a warantee ? Best to Use it.
  24. There's an Older person in my neighbourhood that has a new Caterham. But the Muffler is so damn loud that it's sets off every Alarm on the street when he drives by even slowly.. every single time. He's Embarrassing in a word. One Neighbor is seriously thinking of seriptitiously painting "Too Loud' on the fool's car. Nothing cleverer than Audibly Identiying oneself to Every police officer within a Mile radius, without mentioning the wisdom of continually annoying the neighbors.
  25. Sound deadening can be added in a number of ways: Dynamat ( Peel 'n Stick Ice 'n water shield from a construction supply firm, IF you want to pay 'normal' pricings). Doesn't really do that much (tested) unless the panel resonates, then the added mass helps dampen the vibrations. That Goop that Truck owners slather onto their truck beds to 'protect' them, "Bed Liner". From what only Gawd knows? Same effect as sticky backed SBS (tar) membranes described above. But It'll take a chisel to remove it later though :-) Carpet underfelt, the compressed fiber blanket types: Yup, comes in several thicknesses is water / mold /fire proof. Scissors cuts it nicely and it's easily attached with removable (eventually:-) adhesive. IMO the Best choice for actually deadening noises and Very inexpensive as unexpected bonus.
