Battery

So what does everyone do when it comes time for a new battery? I bought my seven in Europe and it has a Yuasa 896 in it. I can't find any info at all. The 896 seems to be a Europe only battery. Called Yuasa USA and met what has become typical customer service in the USA anymore. (I miss Europe) They said Sorry Yuasa doesn't deal in car batteries. We can't do anything for you. Oh! I see. You mean the battery that is in my car and has Yuasa stickers on it is a figment of my imagination. Sorry sir. Yuasa doesn't do car batteries.

The Yuasa in my seven measures 7" long X 4.75" wide X 6.25" height. The terminals are towards the front of the car on the pass side (it is RHD) the + terminal is to the inside.

Yuasa 896 is a garden tractor battery. According to the Yuasa website: http://www.yuasa.co.uk/batteries/leisure-marine-garden/garden-machinery-batteries/896-896.html. You should be able to pick up one at any Lowes, Home depot, Sears etc.

I use the Odyssey PC680. The first one lasted 7 years with no problems. I sa no reason to replace it with anything different.

Those terminals do not match and are reversed from the 896.

The battery that rx7locost linked to is the correct battery. But Yuasa only sells that battery in Europe. The cross ref manuals in the USA do not even list an 896.

You should be able to pick up one (equivalent, maybe not Yuasa) at any Lowes, Home depot, Sears etc. You are looking for a U1R (reverse terminal) garden tractor battery.

Just make sure it is at least 26AH and 200CCA and make sure it fits, There are slight differences between mfgrs. Something like this: http://www.sears.com/diehard-gold-lawn-garden-battery-group-size/p-02850795000P?sid=IDx01192011x000001&kpid=02850795000&kispla=02850795000P&kpid=02850795000&mktRedirect=y

Big Dog,

I have to agree with Skip: Put in the odessy, modify the wires if necessary. For a small cost you get the adapters for an "SAE" terminal set. Modify your battery box if required--I had to make mine smaller. You will have a great, easily obtained battery.

I agree the odyssey is a good battery. I run one on my Locost for the last 3 years. They are very good. Adapter terminals are available accessories, including the automotive posts and the tractor terminals too. I only posted the Yuasa UK link because you said you could not find any information about it. The yuasa is a wet cell technology. Not bad, but needs constant maintenance. The modern tractor batteries are sealed/vented and no maintenance. The Odyssey is a starved electrolyte, or glass mat style. Any of them will do.

Odyssey PC680 is what we recommend, as they perform very well, and can deal with the harsh conditions of a Seven engine compartment (heat and vibration).

If you find yourself on the west side of the Cascades with the car, we could also reconfigure the cables as necessary, and make sure you have a proper mount.

I'm a big fan of the EVO 2, which replaced a PC680 in the Westfield almost 3 years ago. So far it' s been flawless (I just screwed myself by writing that, didn't I?) and has even started the car in sub-freezing temps on a couple of occasions. Both times I followed Ballistic's recommendation to first warm up the battery by running the headlights for 10 seconds.

I'll chime in on the Odyssey. Mine has been in the car for at least 10 years since the original owner of the car installed it right after the build in 2004. I've owned the car for the last 4 years and have not had to fool with it. However, I was just in Savanah, GA this past weekend to run at Roebling RR and had my first issue. Temperature was 32 degrees and the car cranked for about 3 seconds before dying. I had to use a jump box to start the car. However, after the temperature warmed up to upper 40's, the car started up time and time again without the jump box. So it ain't dead yet. Hard to beat the performance for the price, and the small footprint.
