FE07 Posted February 1, 2015 Share Posted February 1, 2015 I used Horseless Carriage to transport a race car from California to Baltimore and can highly recommend them. Call around and check prices. You can use it to advertise the move that you want to make and the haulers that have capacity between your origin and destination location will bid on the job. You'll be able to confirm any details that you'd like with the hauler (confidence in timing, enclosed trailer, insurance) before accepting the bid. I used uShip once and a guy who typically moves motorcycles agree to move my seven. Was a good experience at a much better price than the big-name car hauler companies (those basically use a form of uShip to map your load to a truck and they pocket the difference between what they charge you and what they get the trucker to accept). I had an ad posted for 6 weeks for open or closed truck from Reno NV to Binghamton NY. If price were no object... 3 offers upwards of $3500...then I guess it was successful. Seemed a bit much to me... Went with a private broker, got an open car transport for $1000. OK til the trailer brakes caught fire just east of Chicago...6 vehicles and the trailer written off....our f/g dune buggy was right over the trailer axles, lower level, so was completely destroyed. rx7locost Posted February 2, 2015 Share Posted February 2, 2015 Never had to ship a car.. But after watching "Shipping Wars" on A&E TV , I wouldn't even think about uShip. The Shipping Wars truckers use uShip as their means to obtain loads. There is not one trucker in that program that I would trust my car with. I'm sure that a lot of that is hype, reality TV, and they have many reputable shippers, but I think I'd stick with a shipper that specializes with shipping vehicles. A big variable in cost is how soon you want it. If you are in no hurry you can save 50% or more. I am going to hazard a cost of $3-4K coast to coast as a wild guess? I think it cost me $2K for enclosed shipping of my current Cat, Seattle to Cincy, which is close to 2.5K miles. I could have paid 3x that. Not cross country, but when they unloaded it, it was certainly prepared and secured for a cross country trip. Klasik-69 Posted February 23, 2015 Share Posted February 23, 2015 I used Jay's Auto Transport to ship about 5 cars now and have never found anyone else that can compete with his prices or service. He's a broker in Ft. Lauderdale, Fl. Once you give him the FROM & TO destinations, the type (size, weight) of the car, whether it's to be enclosed or open transport, he will post the haul on the computer to his select haulers. They then bid the haul and guarantee the security of the vehicle. Jay gets $100 for his service, you pay the hauler upon delivery the haul charge. I was 110% satisfied with his service and haulers. I shipped a car from Salt Lake City, Utah to Melbourne, Fl for $750 on open transport, a Miata from Melbourne to Hershee, Pa on enclosed transport for $750.
