Good Morning Shane, Hope you had a restful night. Don't let Croc talk you into the beer and bourbon just quite yet. Chips and salsa however might be curative? He may tell you that the synergistic effects of the booze and pain meds will make you forget the circumstances but then nurse Hilda will be in your face with her mustache upper lip and give you the business thus bringing you back into reality. Great news for at least the present that your injuries are not going to require surgery. Thankfully, your young so your ability to heal is much better than some of us old guys. Keep up the good work. Good Morning Shane

Wow, I just caught up and saw this. I am so glad to hear you are not going to need surgery.

Please keep in mind that my wife is a naturopathic Doctor. ( I call her a witch doctor... LOL)

She has some pretty amazing ways of healing bones and tissue. If you are open to this please PM me.

We would be happy to help in any way we can, from arnica to comfrey.

Here is to a WOT recovery. Salute....

Cheers

Kevin

Just a quick update . . . . . :lurk:

I should be released and headed home either this afternoon or, more than likely, by tomorrow morning. :hurray: I've ditched (and trimmed down) a few of the pain meds I've been on and have been spending quite a bit of time out of bed yesterday and today; walking, sitting, bugging the nurses for coffee, etc. Hopefully, I can visit with the insurance co next week and then get the details out in the open for discussion, etc.

Shane

Well, I've been released from the hospital and Robin and are headed back home so I can begin my convalescence surrounded by family and familiarity. Pain is manageable, and with Robin cracking the whip, I'm pretty sure I won't try and over do it.....at least not right away. Once again, I want to send out a big THANKS to everyone for your well wishes, prayers, thoughts, advice and help. All of you on this forum, with your concern and along with your much appreciated sense of humor, have played a large role in helping me keep a positive attitude and my spirits high during the past couple of weeks. And JeffersonRaley, all I can say, buddy, is that I'm soooooo glad you're okay.

Onward and upward . . . . .

Shane

Glad you made it home, that's a lot better place than a hospital!

Snookwheel, funny that you should mention that home is a better place than any hospital. I had to go in for an outpatient throat procedure but ended up having to overnight on a OB/GYN unit much like depicted in the movie the Natural. I caught a really wicked nosocomial gut infection that laid me almost lower than the throat surgery. I hope that they had not had Shane on an OB/GYN ward but I suspect that he would not fess up to it if they had?

Bob,

You're right........no confession on that one. :cooldude: But truth is, I stayed on a neurosurgical wing and the treatment was superb. Croc’s nurse, Hilda, even served me coffee inbed. :jester:

Shane, It has been a while since we have heard from you. How is the rehab going? Are you feeling any better at this point? Hope you ARE feeling better. Bob

Hey, Bob,

Thanks for asking. I'm 'hanging' in there. The doc released me yesterday for administrative duties, so for now, I’m flying a desk. But that’s okay, lots to do to keep me busy and in the ‘aviation’ groove. As for pain, it’s manageable with meds and I’m only taking them as needed.

Shane, Glad to hear that you are making a pretty rapid recovery all things considered. Flying a desk is better than flying a bed. What kind of aircraft have you been flying for your job? Bob

It is probably best that Captain Chaos is confined to desk duties. Its safer for the ladies that way as now he only chases them around the office. Before he was using a Lear Jet and those high speed passes down main street were alarming the girls and not helping his success rate. His targets would always get away from him in the turns. Bit like how he drives on track! :p

Wow, just saw this post. Tom had said something about Shane having an accident but I blew it off as just a little scrape. I feel terrible being this late in the game of wishing Shane a speedy and COMPLETE recovery. I've out of touch with my own back issues, going in on Wed to have lower back fused. That is a piece of cake compared to Shane's issues.

Shane, about 8 years ago my father in law broke 3 vertebrae in the Thiracic region when he tripped and fell. Due to his age, doctors in town said he would be laid up the rest of his life. One doctor suggested we contact the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville about a new procedure developed in France. We found the doctor and he explained the non-invasive procedure to repair broken vertebrae. Using a special needle, he injects an epoxy like material in the crack of the vertebrae which instantly bonds. 45 minute procedure and the patient walks out of the hospital. In my father in law's case it took two such procedures and it worked. After the second one, the 82 year old man walked out.

Not ot sure how complicated your broken vertebrae issue is, and from what I read, it is quite complicated, it may be a solution to consider. If you want me to, I'll get some contact info on the procedure. I feel terrible for you, only wish I could help in some way. It was such a pleasure meeting you and running on the track with you at NJMP last July. God be with you.

Hey Mike,

Better late to the party than not at all! Good to hear from you! As a matter of fact, I am quite well-versed in those procedures - one is called kyphoplasty and the other is vertebralplasty. And yes, when the patient is a candidate, they are great procedures! Glad to hear they worked on your father-in-law. Unfortunately, those are not an option for me due to the severity of one of my vertebrae. We're just gonna have to do some good ole' fashioned healin' here!

Shane, where does insurance come into play with an incident like this ? I'm assuming you were talking about auto coverage. Mine may cover the first $10K of medical but 2 hours in the emergency room will eat that up and more. I have my 7 covered while on the road but never on the track, just wondering. Damage to the car looks minimal but it may be more "hidden" than we see. Important thing is your medical recovery. Cars can be fixed or replaced
