2021 Caterham 620SV for sale. $89,900 - SOLD

2021 Caterham 620S in Firecracker Yellow with 3298 miles.  Highly optioned, garage-kept, in excellent condition.  5 speed manual transmission. The larger SV Chassis and lowered floors allow for drivers of most sizes.  The is the fastest and most powerful street car that Caterham has ever produced.  Equipped with a Supercharged Ford Duratec engine producing 310 HP in a package that weighs just over 1300 pounds, the power-to-weight ratio exceeds many supercars.  I am the second owner having purchased the car from the importer, Hillbank Motorsports, with 500 miles on the odometer.  This car is titled as a 1957 Lotus 7 with a clean Virginia title, and should be able to be titled in any state.  Clean CarFax, and no liens.  During my ownership I have installed the Caterham cooling update, a new TPS and Lambda sensor, a new battery, and the car has a recent full service including oil, coolant, and spark plugs.  Car starts and runs smoothly and powerfully.  Includes original Avon tires with moderate wear over 15” rims.

Driving a Caterham 620S is like driving no other car. As a continuation of a 1957 Lotus 7, It is the definition of analog driving.  With no driver aids such as ABS or traction control, or even power steering or power brakes, it is just the driver and the road.  Every drive holds the potential for exploring the limits of both the car and your driving skills, and this car makes you a better driver.  The rush of power through the gears and the cornering ability is simply breathtaking.  No other car feels more connected to the road.  The 620S is great for both open-top backroad cruising and tearing up a track.  This car is track ready with a track roll bar and an FIA approved 6 point harness, although it has not been tracked under my ownership.  It is also a great conversation starter, and a favorite at Cars and Coffee.  And if you enjoy owning a car that is rare and unusual, there are barely a handful of Caterham 620s in North America.

Asking price $89,900.00   Will consider reasonable offers.

The car is available for viewing in Harrisonburg VA by appointment, and I am happy to chat with any interested buyers to answer any and all questions.

Please note that most of the photos are taken recently, but the ones with the doors off, and the Youtube video are from when I purchased from Hillbank.  The condition of the car is substantially the same.

No offense but that's nuts.  I hope I am not being offensive but the material and work in that car is worth almost 120k?  Why?

No offense taken.  You believe that the price is exorbitant, and when I purchased the car two years ago I thought exactly the same thing, because the asking price was the same. But, if you build a car to this spec, and add in all of the costs to build and import it, and then add the extras I have included, you will easily be over $100,000.  Then, add to the equation the fact that there is a LONG wait to get a new car.  Then, there is the known market for 620's in the US.  The last 620 sold in the US, similarly equipped except an R model, sold for $122,000.  The R model is about $8K more expensive to build than the S model, so I have factored that into my asking price.

So I think the asking price is in line with the build, condition, and the current market.  Time will tell.  It is a very special car.

It's honestly OK, and the price is without doubt the elephant in the room.  :-) I don't mind addressing any thoughts or comments.

As standard, R pack includes the Sadev, and S gets the 5 speed.

Yep! although it is possible to spec either model with either transmission at the build.  When I decided on a 620 I wanted to get a SADEV but after talking to a couple people who had them I changed my mind.  The SADEV is awesome on the track, but if you are not primarily using the car on the track it is a lot to deal with.  It is very noisy, it can be difficult to get into reverse, and they seem to be pretty fragile and require a lot of maintenance and repair.  Plus they add about $8K to the build if I recall correctly.  The 5 speed is Mazda made and a joy to shift.

Hello!  After a conversation with my friend Josh at Rocky Mountain Caterham, I have decided to drop my aspirational price down to something more realistic.  I did base the original asking price on a recent sale but I realize that was an outlier at best.

Hello all!  I've had a couple enquiries about the car with concern about the right hand drive.  I was concerned also, but because the car is very narrow, and the seats are almost touching each other, the vantage from the cabin is very near the center of the car, and for me that made transitioning quite easy.  It took me about 300 miles to be completely comfortable even on narrow roads.  As for shifting with the left hand, also that came quickly for me, and for most people that puts the most important job, the steering, in the dominant hand.

If there are others here who have driven RHD cars, tell me if you agree that it's not a very big deal.

The reason the car has RHD is that the location of the supercharger makes it impossible to route LHD steering, so if you want a 620, RHD is your only choice.

Cheers,

Mike

Absolutely, RHD is no big deal.  If one is accustomed to the car and aims properly, at the center of the path, it is no problem.  The first RHD car I ever drove was a GT40 and afterward, I realized, Oh shit, I didn't even notice the RHD.  The only drawback I see in the US is making L hand turns.  But now, there is always a BIG PU or SUV in the opposing lane, so in any small car you have to wait for a clear view.  No sweat.

I'd echo Panamericano - RHD is really a non-event.  Take a short while to get used to it and the associated change in visibility and you will be fine.  I go back and forth between LHD and RHD regularly on both road and track without an issue.   Any purchaser will have more issues learning to adapt the right foot for type of deft throttle control that the horsepower of a Caterham 620 demands.

Hey kitkat!  That must have been a mistake.  It should be listed there for the same price as here.  I have been traveling a lot and I shipped the car to Josh on consignment.

Thanks Kitkat!  We have a very interested party, just waiting to go over the details.  I may regret selling this, it is such a rush to drive.

Congrats. What ballpark neck of the woods? Something close enough to NJMP to make it there for the yearly gathering?

Actually in Colorado, so I don't think it's likely ;-)  I ALMOST made it last year except for the new rules.
