southwind25
I couldn’t resist The Ohio temps are warm enough and the salt is washed off the roads…so we buttoned her up (literally) and took her out into the wet fury for this morning’s commute. Where does one buy the se7en wetsuit? Sadly the heated windshield didn’t work, but otherwise it was a great morning. This car really comes alive in your hands..the miniscule wipers do an excellent job really. The Top wasn’t really meant for this though and your right at the worst height behind truck tire spray. She got through the downpour just fine however and non of the sparky bits went awry. I should be dry in a couple hours, what a fun little ride. :7rain:

slngsht
Try it without a top or wipers and a 3" per hour rain sometime if you want a real thrill!!! Glad you are finally getting to enjoy your 7, Russ I got caught in rain the first year I owned the Rotus... On the way back from a 600 mile recon trip before the original skyline trip. No top or doors. I pulled over, put a golf umbrella over my head, and a tarp over that, fired up my laptop to pass some time. After a while I decided to fire her up to make sure the battery doesn't go dead. Apparently there was a unsuspecting lady standing next to my car trying to get in her car, and she never expected a tiny car that's under a tarp just fire up by itself, with the side pipe right next to her ankle.
Al N.
I drove to the 2006 Skyline East meetup in torrential rain. "...in addition to the miles I logged while I was down in Virginia, I drove to and from Va. in Orange, without a trailer and, on the way down, through a few hours of POURING rain. That was quite an experience, as I only have a half hood and half doors. Needless to say I got quite damp and even had to resort to manually wiping off the windshield on the interior of the car. A few times I simply had to stop for the sake of visibility or lack thereof." From my blog. I had a Patagonia rain jacket and soft shell (fleece with water/windproof layer), but got soaked from the waist down, and at my sleeve ends and shirt collar. It was a great way to bond with the car. Kitcat
You were desperate for a drive! I too have been watching the salt wash away here & getting tempted-it's been over a month. Temperature is 57 degrees at 9:50 am so that's great but the rain is pouring down. I agree that the worst part of rain is being right down in the car/truck spray. A set of wipers on the inside wld help too (assuming the top is off). I have found that the car is pretty weatherproof. Of course, by the time you wiggle in/out with the top up you are soaked. All part of the fun.

slomove
After I got my car I have been driving in the rain occasionally (Southern California Winter) with the regular hood and side-screens and found it noisy, damp and claustrophobic with horrible visibility. I sold the canvas pieces and have been driving for the last 4 years with a half hood and large wind deflectors/half doors (for some reason I do not have a picture to show both at the same time). Good for the sun but funny enough I noticed in spite of the wide side openings I do not get wet even in the heaviest rain. Well, maybe the exposed elbows catch some drops....but nothing a simple windbreaker can't handle. Now driving in the rain is still noisy and damp but pretty much in the open and in a way great fun. Sorry, not available for sale anywhere. :nonod: http://www.usa7s.com/aspnetforum/upload/872320665_HalfHood.jpg http://www.usa7s.com/aspnetforum/upload/1994507135_HalfDoors.jpg
stevet
I'm a bit late getting to this... but there is another solution (and, no, that is not me...) http://www.usa7s.com/aspnetforum/upload/1066622194_seven in the wet114.jpg :jester:
Mandurath
Are you sure you want a wet suit? Dry suit would be better I think. I would recommend motorcycle gear from assorted manufacturers. Check out the Bike magazines, they almost all have a "gear" issue that goes through them all. I used to ride my bikes year round, through rain sleet snow, even an ice storm. Most of the time, just a bunch of layers, and a decent rain suit along with some rainx and fogx for my helmet. Though, being a motorcycle sandwich during a bad downpour and thunderstorm between 2 semi's is a bit disconcerting.
drew...
Firstgear makes very good rain gear for motorcycles that kept me dry at Lime Rock on a rainy weekend before I had the top installed.

stevet
Don't worry, the boys are wearing shorts. I think it was taken at Le Mans - late 80's. Probably the cheapest solution discussed so far
Ian7
Company in england called "Soft Bits For Sevens" makes a neat 'shorty' top without side windows. Haven't ordered one yet, but intend to.
locostv8
Many .... years ago I built a dunebuggy using a VW convert body with a Baja kit but never quite got around to making a top. It was my only auto so rain or shine. I found that as long as you kept some speed you didn't get too wet. I would stop at a restaurant and put trash bags over the seats I would park so I could see it. There was nearly always a croud around it shaking thier heads, I was inside dry they were in the rain making fun of the funny little car with no top. MHKflyer52
I know what you mean....kinda like a seven in the rain with no top. By the way I keep four large black plastic trash bags folded up under the passenger seat just for those rare times I am out and get stuck in the rain with my car.:7rain:
